I find a lot of anti-elf posturing in fantasy pretty lame because people will shit on elves and then draw orc and goblin women looking like this:

I think its kinda fucked that sometimes a Black Templars fan will randomly go on r/grimdank and post the kind of meme that you would expect to be made up for a strawman argument against Black Templars fans.
Like, come on dude, i WANT my dislike of Black Templars as a faction to just be for petty reasons that has to do with them in the actual setting! Please stop reinforcing the damn stereotypes about their fans!
85% of my dislike for Black Templars comes from their fanbase, to be honest. I think a lot of people dislike them for that reason. Even the regular people who like them completely understand that sentiment.
The only thing I really dislike about them lore-wise is the lack of adequate friction/punishment for their total disregard for authority in one of the most authoritarian regimes in the setting. They coast along way too much for what they get up to.
I've said before that one of my main dislikes with 40k fans is the utter lack of reading comprehension, or reading at all. Or engaging with the lore at all outside of YouTube shorts and memes, and letting that inform them utterly. The loudest parts of BT fanbase often turn that shit up to 11.
Did you know that Sigismund, the great founder of the Black Templars, didn't want to be an astartes? Or a warrior at all? He remained not wanting to be a warrior even after he became an astartes. He didn't like it, and did it for people who couldn't. Did you know he thought remembrancers were extremely brave people for going to battlefields without weapons, and that he admired them? Did you know that he didn't believe the Emperor's crusade would end? Not because of xenos or whatever. Because humanity was fundamentally incapable of avoiding conflict.
Now you know more about Sigismund than the average BT superfan screaming about women and stabbing T'au on Twitter! Feel empowered.

If tomorrow I won the lottery or some elderly billionare relative died and left me their fortune and I had a massive pile of cash, I would immediately buy a lot someplace more habitable and then build a next level Art Nouveau castle.
I see billionaire mansions or luxury houses and they're all so fucking boring. What's even the point. You have all this money and everything is white and looks like a dentist's office waiting room? The fuck is wrong with you. Install a two story stained glass window. Live a little.

honestly, especially in the current state of the world, you all have GOT to kill whatever puritanical voice inside your head keeps insisting that if something is erotic it has no social, artistic, or intellectual merit.
stop acting as if someone can’t enjoy both erotica and literary fiction or classics. it’s not some dichotomy.
stop acting as if erotic art can’t be poignant and meaningful. and that includes all erotic art - not just fine art.
stop insisting that sex scenes or erotic material ruin movies and shows just because you, personally, get icked out watching it.
no, not all erotic art is high art, and not all erotic art is meant to invoke deep intellectual discussion - but insisting that makes erotic art valueless, a disservice to intellectualism, or whatever else - does nothing but add fuel to a fire built on conservative ideology.

As a society we have benefited so much from successful public health measures that we now have the privilege of declaring that we must not need them anymore
Bitch before enriched flour, neural tube defects like spina bifida were far more common. Even now, spina bifida clinicians and researchers are begging to have salt and maize fortified to reach groups that don’t use as much flour. Before iodized salt, the United States had a fucking GOITER BELT. Eleven years after the introduction of fluoridated water, a city in Michigan found the rate of dental caries among school children dropped a staggering 60%— in an era where tooth decay regularly fucking killed people
I’m literally not even going to start on vaccines, which are among the most successful and robustly studied public health measures in world history
You might say “oh well today we all have access to vitamins and toothpastes and dentists so we don’t need those things in our food supplies” and boy do white people on social media loooove to fucking say that. But here’s the thing: no, people don’t all have easy access to those things. That’s privilege talking yet again

Again, was not expecting much from Under Dragon’s Wing (1984), owing to the fact that TSR cared so much about the book they just slapped part of Elmore’s Basic Rules cover on it. Not inspiring much confidence there.
The book defies expectation though. The protagonist is a kid wizard and a prince of a kingdom that is currently being invaded. He wants to help with the fight and gets some dragon-related summoning/controlling magic items to do so. His companion isn’t an annoying talking animal, either. Rather, he’s got his badass elven tutor/bodyguard along for the ride.
The paths are interesting. I feel like many of the choices lead to unexpected consequences, which is especially good because a lot of them impact the war, and battle is unpredictable! There are some high stakes with the magic too — one path has you permanently transforming into a dragon, a prospect that the text treats as both thrilling and kind of terrible. Weirdly, though, I feel like you have to work to get a bad ending in this one. I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
I quite like Sam Grainger’s art. Really nice line work, this is the first EQ that has a whiff of Fighting Fantasy about its illustrations.
