New Years

I sit here and think,

about last years new years drink.

It seems that time has passed us in a blink,

I’ll miss the sound of our glasses as they clink

You used to tell me “we’re so in-sync”

This year, I hit the bottle and stink

Doomscrolling to cleanse my mind,

This happens all the time.

Late at night, 

when I can’t fall asleep

My feed is in shambles, for I am in defeat:

Hopecore, Metal detector findings,

Movies scenes if they were filmed vertically, 

Comedians performing crowd work,

BetterHelp ads, to George Harrison edits,

and of course,

the TikTok Shop.

I remember that one time where,

I told my friends you bought me a shirt off the TikTok shop, 

But it was actually from Etsy. You told me, “there there”

I don’t want it to seem like I don’t care,

because I treat that shirt like it’s formalwear.

I don’t wear it a lot ya see,

it means a lot whole lot to me.

It sits tucked away, preserved.

Ice cream

When I was in the first grade, we were tasked with writing our own bios for the yearbook.

They gave us some prompts to help us out.

“I’m special because…”

I wrote:

“I’m special because I like ice cream.”

Which is true, I’ve always had a sweet tooth.

When I was in the twelfth grade, I fell for a girl who lived near the train tracks.

She said:

“Don’t be silly, we’ll come back.”

Which is true, cause years later, we did.

I’m glad we were just idiot-kids.

She’s sweeter than ice cream

Hotter than a kettles steam;

Richer than vanilla bean.

Then one day out the blue,

We both just grew and grew…

The other day, I bought a pint of Ben and Jerry’s, Chocolate Therapy.

I have sitting in my freezer,

Waiting for you.

I can feel your heart beating from states away.

You, in Jacksonville, while;

Me, in Philadelphia, currently;

It was 60 degrees in the city today,

Despite it being December,

I still think about the end of November.

Onto a new year, or whatever -

Onto the next endeavor.

I wish we were still kids, so I could ask your

mom if you would come out and play.

We’d spend the whole day!

Together, forever, or whatever.
