Working on a trailer redesign. Having fun with this one. Everything is huge! Also helps that I played the crap out of Cataclysm back in the day lol. #SoundDesign #audiopost https://www.instagram.com/p/BpP_lsghEvH/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xk3c2cne8fdy

Reflective Log 22/10/18
Description:
I have unlocked the full Syntorial product and continued working through the lessons. I have also booked a ticket to the Edinburgh Festival of Sound (EFoS) event, which will be my first networking opportunity. My website is nearly completed from a framework point of view. It now needs content.
Objectives:
Build synth patches for the soft-synths that I already own, including Cakewalk Zeta+2 and Izotope Iris. Also identify other popular synths which may be worth adding to my collection.
Continue work on my website and trailer redesign so that I can put together a showreel ahead of the EFoS event.
Interpretation:
Building the synth patches has been solidifying my understanding of exactly how they work and how I can manipulate Saw and Pulse waves to create some basic “beep” and “boop” sounds.
The website has been coming together and I have found several tools to allow integration with Social Media platforms, which should be great for building an online presence.
Outcome:
I know more about synths than I did two weeks ago. The practical approach lead by Syntorial has been fantastic. I have built some basic patches which I can use to create some basic sounds which would be suitable in “Indie games”.
I am close to completion of the website. My trailer redesign for World of Warcraft Cataclysm is giving me a lot of opportunities to do creature vocal sounds using Krotos’ “Simple Monsters” plugin.
Massive and Serum appear to be two very popular soft-synths which are worth looking at. They are expensive though. I am looking into getting some form of educational discount if possible. I don’t plan on buying any other tools though until I am confident I will be able to use them properly. I’ll revisit them after I get further into Syntorial.

Reflective Log 15/10/18
Description:
A very busy couple of weeks has slowed my progress a little, but I have finished the Learning Agreement and begun work on Syntorial lessons.
Objectives:
Work through a sizeable part of Syntorial lessons. Begin a trailer redesign for my portfolio. Create a workable template in Reaper for use in Sound Design sessions.
Interpretation:
I took the feedback from my supervisors and have submitted a new draft of my Learning Agreement. I now have a set of goals for the Module, which is helping me to plan my time more effectively.
I also worked my way through the demo lessons in Syntorial, which has been very interesting.
Outcome:
I already knew the concepts for synth parameters such as Attack and Release, but the way the lessons work has given me a better understanding of what they sound like. I feel that this is invaluable for crafting designed sounds from scratch. I have submitted an application for an educational discount in order to use the full program which includes over 200 tutorials.

Reflective Log 8/10/18
Description:
Meeting with supervisors went well. Learning Agreement first draft completed and I am now awaiting feedback before submitting to Moodle.
Objectives:
Complete and submit my Learning Agreement, and begin working towards my learning outcomes.
Interpretation:
The meeting really helped me to solidify what I’m aiming to do. I identified that synthesis is a skillset which I need to address if I wish to work with Sci-Fi or Fantasy style games. I also have plans to go to networking events and Game Jams in order to establish contacts and portfolio pieces.
Outcome:
I feel more focused and plan to begin looking at Syntorial as it is a recommended platform for learning about Synthesisers. My Learning Agreement first draft has been sent to my supervisors and I am awaiting feedback. I have also begun work on a website to showcase my portfolio and use as a promotional tool (www.whooshwizard.co.uk).

Reflective Log 1/10/18
Description:
I read the module materials on Moodle in order to prepare for a meeting with my course supervisors. I felt that it was important to understand what would be expected of me during this module.
Objectives:
Be able to articulate my goal for the module of preparing myself to become a videogame Sound Designer and my ideas for reaching that goal.
Interpretation:
I understood the materials, although I am finding that it is very open ended. This is fine, but as I don’t have an in-depth knowledge of the videogame industry, I am finding it difficult to come up with clear and realistic objectives for my learning agreement.
Outcome:
I am now aware of the expected outcomes of the module, but I will have to clarify and narrow down my Learning Agreement objectives with my supervisors during our meeting.
