Thinking about one of the more stupid ways I almost died which was the time I was driving on some back roads in a really severe spring thunderstorm and I should have stayed home bc of flood warnings but it was finals week

and I saw a box turtle in the road so I pulled over in the absolute downpour to move him and I’d only been out of my car long enough to pick him up and before I could even choose a spot to put him down,

I realized the water on the road was suddenly up to my ankles and rising and I was like “UH” which is about the most intelligible thing you have to say when you realize you’re in a flash flood

And I didn’t think about it I just jumped back into my car and started driving like mad while trying not to float my car off the road into the river

And I had a turtle in my lap

And before I narrowly escaped to a high point on a literally life saving hill I was fully convinced that search and rescue was going to tell my family they found me dead in my car with a turtle

And everyone would say yeah that tracks.
