The only problem I have with Varian’s Return

Granted, we only see Varian for fifteen seconds or so but everyone keeps saying he’s evil and I just cannot label him as that. Varian is only fourteen, his father is trapped, his mother… we don’t know what happened to her. His father is his only family and granted Quirin may not be the perfect dad, Varian is willing to do anything to save him. Varian isn’t evil, he’s just a desperate boy trying to save the last family he has. It’s sad to see Repunzel see him as a villain willing to harm people and people agree saying, ‘Oh look at the evil smirks’ or ‘Our villain is back’ and whatnot. This is an illusion, the evil smirks as well as him using the King is all not real. Varian isn’t evil and I pray he gets a redemption in season 2.
