"What if you drank that water, General?" The blonde child answered, shakiness visible in his voice.

The white haired man let out a small smile, patting Yanqing's head to soothe the child's fright. "You don't have to worry, I'll still survive. Your General won't be going down until a successor is selected." It was a vow in a casual tone.

Yanqing felt his fear melt away by the warm gesture. He offered a smile as the pair reached infront of the General's chamber. "Oh Lady Y/N-" The child saw the woman near Jing Yuan's table but paused, his eyes widening like saucers seeing the woman drink from the poisoned cup. "Lady Y/N!!"

Jing Yuan followed the lieutenant's voice. A smile gracing his lips as he saw his beloved which quickly evolved to fear. No, not his love. He's already lost most of it, He can't lose the one precious to him, it's the only thing stopping him from hitting rock bottom. Who will he go to when he wants to be vulnerable and let it out? Who will he share his burden to? His only fear was losing you. His heart was racing uncontrollably.

The train of thoughts broke as his body went on autopilot. The pair rushed forth but halted as bright light engulfed the room. This couldn't be the effects of a poison.

When the light cleared, all left behind was a cat. Jing Yuan's widened eyes confronted into confusion, same with Yanqing. "Y/N?"

"Meow" The feline tilted it's head, jumping onto the General. Rubbing it's head against the man's chest almost comforting him. This was you, only you could tell if he was distressed almost immediately.

After confronting the assassin and checking the remants of the drink. Somehow the fool had mixed a transforming potion instead of poison.

Affection

Jing Yuan would run his fingers through your fur and just bury his face into it. It was so comforting to him. He had to admit, his lady was still beautiful even in a cat form.

If he could, he wouldve used it for a pillow, but he doesn't want his beloved to be crushed under the weight of his head.

You on the other hand, still showed affection like yourself. Whether it'd be an attempt at patting his head with your paws or rubbing your fur against him to show him comfort.

"Honey.. where are you?" You searched through your house. Getting slightly concerned as Jing Yuan was nowhere to be found. He could be in his office due to an emergency but he took a day off today.

"Meow."

That startled you. Did he bring home a cat?

You opened the bedroom door to be greeted by a white cat standing ontop of an unconscious body.

"Jing Yuan!" You rushed forward thinking that the person was Jing Yuan but upon getting closer and closer, your brows furrowed and your steps hatled.

It was a man dressed in black, not to mention he had a weapon. You crouched near it, trying to see the face underneath. There's a chance it could be him.

"Meow!" The cat jumped on you. Occupying your plam by jumping on it. It was so befuddling.

Something told you that this feline was your husband. The suspicion rose when you realise that cats don't have an eye covered by their hair. "Jing Yuan?" You hoped that this cat could understand you and he actually nodded with a meow.

Well whatever that was, you called the Knights and the man caught was an assassin. It took a day but you connected the dots and confirmed that the white feline was indeed your husband.

Cat Jing Yuan.. oh boy. Im going to keep it short because I have to sleep.

After coming to the realisation you had no choice but take care of your now cat husband. But for Jing Yuan..

This was a vacation he never knew he needed.

"He... umm." You glanced at the cat who shook his head no. "So, Jing Yuan was poisoned by an assassin in his sleep, he's in no state of working."

"What?!" Both of them shouted in unison.

"General is bed ridden?" Yanqing was concerned.

"..That's not good." Fu Xuan sighed. Her frustration having turned into somewhat sympathy. "I need to keep my omnisa activated every now and then."

"I'll tell the other generals about that situation." She added.

Watching this in your arms, Jing Yuan felt a little guilty. This was becoming his guilty pleasure at this rate.

"Oh Lady Y/N, did you get a new cat?" Yanqing changed the topic.

"Yes."

"..Strange. It almost looks like him." The Lady Diviner was catching on.

Now to the thing you were talking about.

"..Jing Yuan, would you mind a red collar?" You asked the fluffy feline occupying your lap. You had to ask because it would look cute on him but did he want it as well?

People were beggining to question you as well. It was a bit overwhelming at times. But luckily, your cat husband was there to be your plushie.

Now being pampered is fine and all but it started to get boring when he had nothing to do but laze around. He also couldn't embrace you or keep you in his arms and lap anymore (obviously). It was.. irritating to say the least.

Eeek! Hellooo. Could I request Jing yuan with foxian! Reader who can shapeshifter into an actual fox. And she change the size of her fox form so she can be pocket sizeeee. "..My divination never predicted this." The Diviner stood half impressed and half baffled.

Jing Yuan never foresighted getting a wife who'd be with him every step of his life.. literally. He was amused as well as befuddled.

"Can you transform into a microscopic fox?" He didn't know why that came out of his mouth but it did.

"No."

"Can you go larger than this building?"

"I think so."

"Can I ride you?"

"Probably."

"I've gotten all I wanted."

Ever needed a wife fluffy enough to forget all your problems? Easy.

His golden eyes shimmered despite there being a frown between his brows. The recent alliance meeting had him stressed because it would apply significant changes in the Loufu and his brain simply couldn't formulate a concrete plan to enforce this change.

A whisk of softness came into contact with his skin, the alluring figure of a fox there to remind him that he wasn't alone in his endeavours. He had a wife who'll support him through thick and thin.

He let out a distressed breath he didn't even know he was holding. The fox nudged him, licking to his jaw to divert attention to her. The corners of his eyes softened and the frown disappeared. Impulsively for more comfort, he buried his face in the soft fur. After a while, she transformed back to a normal foxian, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Troubled again?"

"No. It disseminated with you."

Did I mention he loves her fur and brushing it brings him comfort?

His hand would always be in her hair or her fur depending on which form she resides in for that moment. It's subconscious thing and she doesn't mind. His gentle caress are his way of affection.

Now the meeting thing.

No matter how professional and luxurious a building may be, people will bicker like children in serious alliance meetings pointing fingers at each other. The term fish market fits well here.

He usually fell asleep whenever this happened but not anymore when he has his spouse to talk to.

"My ears are about to bleed. They bicker like middle school students. Even kindergardeners have better coordination than them." She complained, jumping for his head to his pocket, unable to bear the loudness of this meeting.

Now to adress the downside.

She kinda hunts all the sparrows that rest on him. And well he cant do much about it.

a post on how yanqing's monologue in the 2.4 quest aligns perfectly with his character story (+ why jing yuan is a great father figure / mentor)

so we all know that yanqing is regarded as the best swordsman on the luofu (character story part I), and when you read his character story part II, it's obvious why:

When hunting near a distant star, the monstrously huge mechabeast Windguard created by the Denizens of Abundance was pulverizing defense forces as though they were ants. But this young boy met against it face-to-face, claiming its head and routing the enemy to the point of collapse. As for subsequent victories: He broke the borisin's Devouring Wolf formation with Jing Yuan, beheading three Brood Lords. He also fought viciously against the wingweavers, ultimately sinking their almighty Cloudseizer Fleet... These are just a small footnote in the annals of his courageous swordplay.

yanqing mentions himself how he isn't like normal kids, but it's kind of startling and unnatural to read about how fearless he is. after all, he isn't like kafka--who literally cannot feel fear--he's just genuinely that good at his art

to jing yuan, yanqing's constant improvement is a reminder of how even though long-life species don't need to fear time decaying their body, their warped sense of time means they are often stagnate in their ideals and ultimately how they live their lives

"General... I finally... won." The general pauses. He suddenly realizes that, compared to the boy trying to improve every day, he himself has endured too many years and is used to stagnation.

the paradox though is that if you only win, that in itself is a form of stagnation.

so if you always succeed while being constantly praised from a young age, what happens when you lose for the first time?

from the average honkai star rail player's perspective, it's laughable that we see someone as decorated as yanqing be defeated multiple times in a row. it makes us wonder whether he even deserves his title, seeing how weak he is compared to jingliu, blade, and imbibitor lunae.

in actuality, this is a genius writing move. by bringing the player into the story right when yanqing starts losing, we begin having the same doubts and suspicions about yanqing that he is about himself. all the scorn and hatred he gets from the fandom are things i'm sure he's thought about himself.

what's even more interesting about yanqing is that most hsr characters are grown and had their early development offscreen, but we are experiencing yanqing's first big low firsthand, right along with him.

but believe it or not, this is exactly what jing yuan wanted.

according to yanqing's character story part IV:

Yanqing became an unrivaled fighter aboard the Xianzhou Luofu as his skills grew more and more advanced. Jing Yuan gradually began thinking about ways to restrain Yanqing's edge, to take him down a peg without curbing his confidence. Too solid and it can shatter. Too sharp and it can blunt. More than just a sharp edge — a sword also needs a scabbard that can restrain it. In Jing Yuan's view, Yanqing has grown up exceedingly fast — beyond expectations. What Yanqing needs right now is not more strength, but the ability and experience of curbing that strength — something that can only manifest by the passage of time.

jing yuan knows exactly what can happen to those blessed with enormous power. unchecked strength and confidence is a double edged sword--it's precisely this overconfidence that got yanqing into fighting with blade/il and challenging jingliu, yet it's also one of yanqing's best features. what jing yuan wants is for yanqing to continue to believe in himself and be courageous, but also practice control and resilience, even after resounding defeat.

"All's equal in war, and sneak attacks are a good idea. It's too bad your sword is so focused on the flourish and can't conceal its form. Is this what they call youthful vigor?"

there are some things you cannot directly teach, and it's not as though jing yuan planned for yanqing to meet jingliu/etc. jing yuan believes that only time can teach yanqing, yet it's also tricky because for long-life species, time is not just a wheel pushing progress but a cycle repeating the same things over and over.

this is why i believe it's a testament to the stellar quality of yanqing's character and jing yuan's raising of him that so relatively quick after all of yanqing's failures...

...yanqing hasn't given up nor run away, but rather discovered that he no longer fights solely for an extrinsic reward--victory, honor, approval--and instead, for something much more permanent

this doesn't mean yanqing's going to stop throwing himself into difficult fights--just take his bickering with yunli as an example--but rather his perspective has changed. yanqing will enter battle even if defeat is inevitable and will keep on going even if he loses. he's continuing to improve, both physically and mentally.

(i also want to point out the juxtaposition of "letting go of everything" and "giving it my all" in yanqing's purpose above; it sounds contradictory but i think it means how fighting helps yanqing feel free and forget the weight on his shoulders, yet it's also a show of passion where he'll fight for his family/friends/ideals to the best of his ability and beyond)

to conclude, yanqing is an insanely complex and well written character, and i'm so happy that the 2.4 quest is exploring everything that has been set up for him so far. connecting this to the final character story i haven't covered yet (part III), i believe that yanqing is closer to achieving his dream than ever before:

To become the best on the Luofu — no, the best across all the Xianzhou ships. To take the title of Sword Champion on the Luofu, and even take the title of Sword Preeminence across the Alliance. Since the Sedition of Imbibitor Lunae, the title of Sword Champion among the Luofu Cloud Knights has remained vacant for centuries. Not that nobody wants to claim it, but for a rather more embarrassing reason: The previous Sword Champion, a legendary swordmaster with 13 outstanding accolades, violated the laws of heaven, resulting in her name being wiped from the face of the cosmos. Even the prestigious title that she bore became a sore spot for others. But for this vastly impressive teen, it's now time to turn over a new page in the annals of history and write another chapter.

"You will soon be better than everyone, and that will only be the beginning..."

Yukong feels so lonely after her daughter left the house for college, she wants a company and someone to take care of.

She is happy to feed you, a stray one, and you officially become hers when she managed to put on a collar on you.

However, she is ill-informed about taking a stray as a pet and never crossed her mind to spay you.

Resulting her kitty to be missing for days, only to come back with filled belly.

On the other side of the neighborhood, Fu Xuan has this healthy fat cat, she foolishly thought her cat is so lazy as long as he is inside, it will be okay.

Oh how wrong she is that Jing Nyan is determined enough to meet up with the stray cat walking outside their house.

Imagine the surprise on Fu Xuan's face when she sees the status from her neighbor about the oh-so-familiar looking kittens.

The meeting started with both women apologizing for not spaying their cats, and ended up with Fu Xuan roasting the hell out her own cat.

There is a time and a place for talking about sexualization, but like you cannot be serious.

Honestly if we want to have a discussion about practicality or realism, the flowy/longer parts of the outfit should be the ones under fire, but that’s not the complaints here.
