modern day au where eleanor runs a mall, she became boss because nepotism and has absolutely no experience. she immediately starts hooking up with one of the hairdresser, max. her ex vane gets hired by the starbucks for the sole purpose of getting close to her but he barely lasts a week before getting fired for throwing boiling coffee at a customer that pissed him off. flint used to work at an evil corporation but quit everything when he discovered leftism. after three months of working at the grocery store he's immediately promoted to manager and he runs that shit like the navy. he catches silver shoplifting a ps5 but silver pretends he just started working here and he's just cleaning. billy who's friend with silver convinces gates, the assistant manager, to lie for him and say he's indeed hired silver. so they have to draft a contract and silver actually starts working there. max offers discounts haircut to all the mall employees to get gossip and she reports everything back to eleanor— except the fact that anne and jack are constantly smoking weed during their lunch breaks because she likes anne and tolerates her idiot boyfriend. flint is desperately trying to form an union and silver pretends he cares about it too so he can get away with stealing shit, until his leg gets injured at work and he starts to actually care about working conditions. vane manages to get rehired at starbucks and is on his best behavior, always coming by eleanor's office with dumb excuses until eleanor hooks up with him. max finds out and in retaliation she hooks up with anne on eleanor's desk. when eleanor sees the security footage she's too horny to be angry so they start the most ill-advised lesbian polycule. jack is on a never ending quest to get the mall renamed after him.

The fact these scenes are both in 2x3 makes me evil biting clawing at my cage. The foreshadowing of Miranda’s death and that her sacrifice is of course too great. But that they focused on Eleanor while Flint says this? I’m going to scream.

anyway max IS the smartest most intelligent character in that show. jon steinberg himself said it btw:
"She is the one who was able to figure out a way to–essentially to get the show to end, to get everybody out of there. It’s this constant recurring theme from Bonny, from everyone, that they are–they’re in these situations they don’t wanna be in, and if everyone is in a situation they don’t want to be in, it does feel like it requires someone to step out of, almost to step off the stage, and to sort of be able to see all the four corners of it, in order to find a solution to end it."
"She’s the only one that’s really trying to tame it. Everyone else is trying to defeat it, or trying to kill it, or separate from it. She’s really the only one just staying there with the chair and the whip trying to figure out how to get it to do what she wants, and acknowledging that it is always going to be bigger than she is, and stronger than she is, but that it is manipulable, and so that makes her, I think, unique within the narrative.”
