Call me cynical/bitter but I'm pretty sure Sansa's role will be to have incredibly mild conflict with Jon while he's at Winterfell and mildly put off Littlefinger in a holding pattern. During this time D&D will constantly push the narrative she can't choose between her family and Littlefinger or was possibly turned evil by the patriarchy. Finally in the penultimate episode she'll kill Littlefinger/have him executed revealing this has been her plan all season and she was just biding her time.

Real Talk: If Sansa’s role for the entirety of the season is ‘harried den mother trying to keep her dramatic ho siblings alive’ I’m game lol.

The Dead Ladies Club

The Dead Ladies Club is a term I invented** circa 2012 to describe the pantheon of undeveloped female characters in ASOIAF from the generation or so before the story began. 

It is a term that carries with it inherent criticisms of ASOIAF, which this post will address, in an essay in nine parts. The first, second, and third parts of this essay define the term in detail. Subsequent sections examine how these women were written and why this aspect of ASOIAF merits criticism, exploring the pervasiveness of the dead mothers trope in fiction, the excessive use of sexual violence in writing these women, and the differences in GRRM’s portrayals of male sacrifice versus female sacrifice in the narrative. 

To conclude, I assert that the manner in which these women were written undermines GRRM’s thesis, and ASOIAF – a series I consider to be one of the greatest works of modern fantasy – is poorer because of it.

And in GRRM’s books, being born a bastard is not an absolute bar to inheriting property or titles (they do have to paper over the matter first). In the show, Jon becoming King in the North over Sansa against accepted law and custom is a Watsonian manifestation of two Doylist problems.

Brimstone

Do I watch Brimstone even though Kit Harington's American accent is a crime against speech and actually made me physically recoil watching the trailer. Like somehow more than the extremely gendered violence the trailer promised. Thoughts @andi-d?

The classiest of hand me downs.

This crown was first seen on the 2015 first season of ABC’s Galavant. It was worn by the character of King Richard, played by Timothy Omundson.  The crown was seen again most recently on Jacob Collins-Levy as Henry VII in the 2017 mini-series The White Princess.
