For Solana, that duty comes in painting the sky itself. While those guarding the night slumbered away, Solana wakes first with diligence. To turn black and white into orange, yellow, and blues so that day may break through.

And during the day after this task is finished? He paints on others- be it just a tattoo of a scar or morphing the dragon before him into a form otherwise unfathomable to other dragons... He'll do whatever request comes his away- to shine beauty on the beholder.

To shine truth onto others and onto the skies themselves...is that not the greatest task of all?

Hey guys! Do you play Flight Rising? Do you want to draw the pretty dragons you collect? Their genes or eyes? Or maybe you need help with something else? Here's a few how-to's and tutorials I've done that you can take a gander at to help you. The long awaited sequel to tips for introducing more conflict into your Flight Rising lore, types of antagonists for your Flight Rising lore that aren't just Evil Murder Hobo

Corrupt Authorities. Maybe your clan leader is secretly evil, or the Dragon Cops are cruel, or maybe there's some larger authority outside of your clan that's evil (ex: your clan is a town in a larger kingdom). Tip: Most people aren't evil for the sake of being evil, think of what your antagonist/s are GAINING from being corrupt. Is it money? Influence? Power? Is there something else they want? Cults, countries, companies; all of these fall under this category.

False Prophets and Conmen. These are dragons who are lying (intentionally or unintentionally) to gain power in your clan, or to try to make some specific outcome that benefits them happen. A dragon who pretends to see the future, a dragon who is lying about some dangerous creature to sell defenses against it, these all fall under this category. Tip: Not all antagonists THINK they're malicious; a dragon who sincerely thinks they were commanded by the Icewarden to burn down the local inn doesn't think they're being evil!

Counter-Culture. Some dragons are going to go against the popular culture, for a variety of reasons (maybe they disagree, maybe they want to stand out, maybe they feel outcasted already, etc). A large counter-culture scene can provide an antagonistic force for the primary culture of the clan. Tip: Just because they're "antagonists" doesn't mean they're EVIL or VILLAINOUS. They're just, well, a contrary force.

Force of Nature. This is a dragon (or, well, any kind of creature) that represents a force of nature more than a typical personality. They are both restrained by their nature, and emboldened by it; a dragon who is the incarnation of Death may seek to kill, a dragon who is the incarnation of Storms may create storms without realizing or caring about the consequences, etc. Tip: You can get really esoteric with this, just be careful to not place them in a protagonist role! Forces of Nature are antagonists because they're powerful and constrained by odd rules; when you put them in a protagonist's role, you'll end up losing narrative tension.

Overwhelmed by Curiosity. These are your mad scientists, your cackling inventors, your dwarves digging too deep; they aren't evil in the traditional sense, they're just driven by a sense of curiosity that leads them to do horrible things to find answers. Tip: Pick an obsession for them, and run with it! Think of the most malicious ways they can find answers, and figure out why they're convinced these methods are the ONLY way.

Wild Animals / Instinctual Hostility. This is for your non-dragon antagonists and monsters, who are hostile towards your dragons for innate, instinctual reasons and are impossible to negotiate with. Tip: If you want a more black-and-white evil vs. good scenario, having a bunch of these guys as minions provides good tension without adding too many moral quandaries.

Parasites / Mind Control / Possession. Need a convenient reason for a protagonist to turn into an antagonist? Some form of mind control or parasite that takes control of a character's mind is a great excuse. Is it taking over one dragon, or multiple? Is it sentient, or just acting on instinct? Is there a mastermind controlling it, or does it trigger some latent hostility in its host? Tip: This is a great antagonist if you don't want any of your dragons to be evil, just make sure to establish strict rules on how the mind control happens, and how it ends.

This is a non-exhaustive list (there are plenty of other kinds of antagonists you can add), but hopefully provides some ideas for people who are stuck on wanting more conflict, but struggling to think of a unique antagonist.

lore idea: sornieth is tidally locked

why are sornieth's poles as climatically different as they are? the far north is a jungle and the far south is a tundra. they should get the same amount of insolation. what gives?

my theory is that sornieth is 1:1 tidally locked with its parent star, centered on the beacon of the radiant eye.

this theory would explain a lot of the placement of climates and regions. nature gets a lot of sun to fuel the plants, the arid biomes cluster in the areas around the middle latitudes and the humid biomes cluster in the middle latitudes, and the perpetual darkness regions are the coldest flight and the one that likes to look at the stars the most.

Things I would add if I was in charge of FR and had One William Dollars (not an exhaustive list)

Note: These are mostly things I’d add, and don’t include major QoL things or reworking of current mechanics. Also quite a few of these are already popular ideas that have been bounced around before; I’m just bringing them up here, because I love them.

Apparel

More tools like scythes (actual scythes, not the Arlo ones), sickles, brooms, shovels, pickaxes, hatchets, lassos, feather dusters, shepherd’s crooks, knitting needles, etc

Bride’s veils, bonus points if they match the bouquets

Instruments like trumpets, flutes,

Pearl jewelry, like actual strings of pearls. I’m thinking necklaces, earrings, garlands, etc. pearls come in a lot of fun colors.

Silks and wrappings like what Fiona and Glass/Gloss wear

Baskets with fruit, flowers, bread, papers, seashells, rocks, etc,

Thinner bows/ribbons

Nose rings as part of the simple jewelry sets

Spa day set - bathrobe, towel around the head, slippers, clay mask, cucumbers for the eyes, etc (I just think this would be silly)

Bells - cowbells, sleigh bells, etc

Carny apparel - straw hat, vest, cane, etc

Coffee cups and mugs

Genes (divided into prim/sec pairs and terts)

Gingham/Picnic - like a picnic blanket

Treble/Bass - thin lines across the body/wings of the dragon like sheet music.

Maple/Oak - leafy veins, like on the undersides of leaves

Jelly/Jam - semi-transparent and looks like the dragon is made of jello. No organs or bones though; just jello. Wiggle wiggle :)

Parchment/Papyrus - gives the appearance of wrinkled/faded paper.

Tuxedo - a tert that gives a pattern like tuxedo cats

Axolotl - adds axolotl gills

Gothic - Banescales’ version of Deco/Ornaments. Adds a fancy thing to the wings shaped like a Gothic window so the secondary looks like the glass

Breeds

Cuckoo breed that has a chance to lay eggs in your nests and/or show up during random site interactions (like the Fathom scrolls)

NPCs

Food NPC that gives you some free food points once per day, and/or lets you exchange some non-food items for some food (a la Swipp, but with food)

Coliseum bounty hunter NPC that gives you little quests and rewards for defeating x amount of y enemies in the Coliseum— something to spice up the grind a little bit

Really pipe dream stuff

Lair builder - This feature takes your lair and makes it fully buildable, expandable, and decorative. Has a variety of different environments (could be flight-centric, or could be more generic) and styles (house, den, castle, town, etc). Also full of decorations and things you can fill your space with.

Fishing mini game - Either a fairground game that gives you a decent hunk of treasure, or a trading post/grand exchange game that gives you food.

Farming - Just another opportunity to get food. You get seeds from gathering/trading post/coliseum/etc, and you plant them and water them every day (like incubating a nest).

Note: the fishing and farming minigames being used as food sources would imply there would be insect and meat counterparts. For insects, I’m picturing a feature where you set up hives and nets to lure in insects. As for meat… I’m not sure how down people would be for a hunting/trapping/butchering feature, but I don’t know of another way to get meat.

Cooking - If you have a lot of food in your hoard, you can put them in a cooking pot/oven a la Breath of the Wild and get something that refills 2 or more food types for more points. A little bit more bang for your buck.
