francis you are the soup master and i require forbidden soup knowledge. one of my friends is sick and i want to make them soup, is there a comperatively easy way to make some soup stock or should i just buy some soup and heat it?
its very easy and relatively inexpensive! im going to list a lot of steps but the amount of active prep you do is very minimal, probably a half hour total and not all at once
i think one of the most failsafe methods is to buy a chicken and roast it (aldi usually has whole chickens <5$ in my experience) or buy an already cooked rotisserie chicken and use its bones for stock (this will be easier). either way, remove most of the meat (leave some on) and put ALL of the bones in your pot. chicken stocks and turkey stocks in general i think taste more consistently good than beef or pork.
but otherwise look for beef or pork soupbones at the store. pork feet are really good and typically easy to find, chicken feet are good for chicken stock but will be a little more difficult. you arent gonna find them at like, target or smth. make sure to wash them first but it will make a very nutritious broth (it will be collagen rich and gel up when its cold, this is normal and good and itll be liquid when heated)
so if you get just raw bones, roast them for a while in the oven and really turn up the heat. get them nice and crispy. its more flavorful. i like to season them a little like i would normal meat but people usually recommend to save the seasoning for when you actually make it into a soup, maybe just black pepper.
while the bones are roasting], chop up lots of onions, celery, carrots, garlic. sautee them in olive oil or butter or whatever fat you have. then put them in a pot and let the water warm up.
then put your bones in there. cover and let cook for ideally like at least 6-10 hours, but ideally more. taste it and add salt as needed (it WILL need salt). a lot of recipes suggest apple cider vinegar but every time ive used it in a stock its tasted kind of gross to me so id suggest not to.
after its done, just strain it and put it in a jar! id recommend keeping it overnight so you can remove the congealed fat in the morning and also bc broth supposedly tastes better the next day
anyway thos ingredients are pretty much failsafe to make a good stock, and will be more nutritious and also psychologically nicer than storebought (but storebought WILL be easier)

decolonial atlas project releases indigenous place names of turtle island map
"
This map was a collaborative endeavor involving hundreds of Indigenous elders and language-keepers across the continent to accurately document place names for major cities and historical sites. The process of consultation and research for the map was a 9-year effort. In fact, the Decolonial Atlas was started in 2014 initially just to make this map.
Nearly 300 names are compiled here, representing about 150 languages. Some names are from the precolonial era, while others are not quite as old, and in certain cases where the original name has been lost, Indigenous collaborators reconstructed names based on their cultural relationship with that location. Because Indigenous languages are living and dynamic, none of these names are any less “authentic” than others. Embedded in all these names are ancestral words and worldviews. However, some major cities are missing from the map because, as our collaborator DeLesslin George-Warren (Catawba) pointed out, “The fact is that we’ve lost so much in terms of our language and place names. It might be more honest to recognize that loss in the map instead of giving the false notion that the place name still exists for us.”
The names are written as they were shared with us, but may be spelled differently depending on the orthography. Note that some languages, like Lushootseed, do not use capital letters, while others, like Saanich, are written only in capital letters. Most names are spelled in the modern orthographies of their languages, but some, like the Lenape name for Philadelphia, were spelled as recorded by early settlers because it could not be confidently interpreted.
In the context of Indigenous erasure, the global collapse of traditional ecological knowledge, language suppression and revitalization, our hope is that this map will lead to more accurate cultural representation and recognition of Indigenous sovereignty."
the pdf and png files for the map are available for download under a creative commons license.

I have trouble taking care of my teeth because everything that involves doing that is a sensory nightmare. I decide to do some research to see if there's anything I can do about this. The results?
"How to make your autistic child brush their teeth"
"Autistic Children and Sensory issues relating to tooth brushing"
"How to get your little shit to brush his fucking teeth"
Like, yeah Google, thanks, that really helps. And like, even if I was a child, some of the advice seemed... unhelpful. Like, doing a dance and singing a song while brushing your teeth? Even for a kid, I don't think that would help distract from a sensory experience as intense as brushing your teeth. Like, the extremely intense and unpleasant flavor, the intense feeling of the brush against your teeth scraping across it, even mouthwash has such an intense and disgusting flavor that I have difficulty keeping it in my mouth for more than a few seconds. I wish there was SOMETHING that could be done.

every character in agamemnon sets fire to language in a different way. klytaimestra is a master of technologies, starting with the thousand-mile relay of beacons that brings news of the fall of troy all the way from asia to her in the first scene. she reenacts the relay in language that is so brilliant and so aggressive, she is like a conqueror naming parts of the world she now owns. she goes on to own everyone in the play - the chorus by argument and threat, agamemnon by flattery and puns, aigisthos by sexy cozening - with one exception. kassandra, she cannot conquer. kassandra’s defence, which is perfect, is silence.
anne carson, preface to the agamemnon of aeschylus in ’an oresteia’ (aeschylus, sophocles and euripides, trans. anne carson)

“When I’d first loved him, I wanted to take him apart, as a child dismembers a clockwork toy, to comprehend the inscrutable mechanics of its interior. I wanted to see him far more naked than he was with his clothes off.”
