@widowedfcked inquired: âSome cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.âÂ
HE HEARD THE WORDS SO NONCHALANTLY MUTTERED UNDER HER BREATH by chance and little else; stationed a mere few feet away from her, keen, dark eyes surveilling the ever moving crowd spread across the many lawns and courtyards of the palace. A kingâs birthday was a festivity that potentially could last for days on end, and half the country more often than not found itself invited. Anything carrying some rank and title, dressed up from head to toe, indulging in canapĂ©s, sparkling wine, and the ever same, ever boring conversations. The Red Guards patrolled the paths and entrances, and yet it were the Musketeers that trailed behind the royal pair like ever loyal shadows; Aramis amongst them, naturally.
The small, undignified snort that escaped him upon hearing her, however, was out before he could consider it. Open delight flitted across his face then, his gaze briefly following the back of the man she appeared glad was gone. A Comte, no doubt, or some Duke. And apparently rather unpleasant company. And Aramis, in an almost apologetic manner, lifted the large hat off his dark curls, smiling a little sheepish, like a boy caught with a hand in the cookie jar.
âForgive me, Madame. I didnât mean to eavesdrop.â A truth, overall. He had merely been lucky enough for the noise to drop a litte in the very moment she had spoken up. âStill, my compliments to your wits. The sentiment is familiar.â

Wordlessly ,  she  crossed the  room  and  followed after  him  across  the  grand floors  &  into  the  hallway  . Through  the  darkened  light  ,  she fought to be  closer - the shadows of  the  house ,  casting  over them  until  they  were in  a  room  away from it  all .

đđ  đ  đđđđ.  The  moment she  had  conceived  and  lost  her  first, May  was  desperate  to  be  a  good  wife  to her  husband.  The  women  in  her  social  circle were  having  babies  and  families  ,  and  May  tried hard to have a  baby .  She  had done  everything the  doctors  would tell  her  ,  quit  smoking for  a  brief  period  and  initiated sex  with  her  husband  at  every  chance she  could  .  Each  time  she  would  get  her period  it  was  a  disappointment  and  heartbreaking .  She  locked  herself  in  her  unshared  room  &  cry into  her  pillow  .  She  would  be  inconsolable  for  a few  days  &  then  put  her  mask  back  on  and  try  again . Â
Her miscarriages were  traumatic &  painful  .  Each stillbirth  &  miscarriage she  placed  a  new  flower  in her  gardens  ,  and  it  bloomed every  summer  ,  a  painful  reminder of  what  she  couldnât  have  .  If  she couldnât  have  real  love  ,  she  toyed  with the  idea  that  god  would  at  least  give  her a  child  .  The  first  time  she  had  to  go  through it  ,  she  made  the  maids  leave  at  2  am  to  go  and fetch  Edith  from  town  .  She  would  let  no  one  see  her .  Edith  explained  what  happened  and  May  cried  all  night  . Ian  did  not  know  what  to  say  to  his  little  wife  and  told  her they  could  try  again  ,  not  knowing  how  to  comfort  her  . Â
In the  end he  needed a  child  to carry  on  his family  name  ,  even if  he  was  not  legitimate ,  and  he  would  name  him  as his  heir  in  his  will  after  he passed  ,  however  he  never  got  the chance  before  dying  in  WWI.  Her  husband had  an  illegitimate  child  ,  which  May  still pays  for  ,  and  then  she  knew  it  was  probably her  .  She  was  a  failure  as  a  wife  .  Getting  pregnant for  May  will  be  hard  and  tricky  .  She  and  Ian  just  were not  compatible.  Her  womb  was  inhospitable  to  his  sperm  . Â
She loves babies  . She  loves  children .  After  Ian  died  she did  not  ever  think  she would  have  a  baby  .  She didnât  get  the  privilege  of being  an  aunt  either  ,  but  she looked  after  her  friends  children  and any  children  that  Edith  would  introduce to  her  .  She  loved  babies  ,  and  when  friends stayed  at  her  estate  ,  would  volunteer  to  watch them  even  into  the  night  when  they  were  fussy  . Â
Part of  her sadness  after Tommy  Shelby  was finding  out  that  Grace was  pregnant  .  Not  because she  didnât  deserve  her  pregnancy or  that  Tommy  didnât  deserve  it  , but  because  it  probably  played  a  part in  him  wanting  to  be  with  Grace  .  To  have a  family  .  May  did  not  believe  it  was  possible for  her  to  give  that  to  him  . Â
It is  possible for  her  to  get pregnant  ,  but  it is  filled  with  complications &  rarity  .  She  cannot  give  birth to  a  brood  of  children  .  The  older she  gets  ,  the  more  secure  she  becomes in  knowing  she  might  not  be  a  mother  ,  but she  can  do  more  for  children  who  do  not  have parents  .  It  also  helps  bond  her  to  younger  children much  faster  . Â
When she  found out  that  Lizzy had  donated  so  much money  to  the  Grace  Shelby Institute  she  sent  another  check ,  because  she  could  . Â

THAT was the way of life, the way of war. âahâ always been a hardwood floor kinda guy.â he muses. joeâs voice has changed, another way the fight rattled a decent soul; ammunition smoke deepened his manner of speech and HARDENED the charm. but his eyes can still twinkle, canât they? sky blue irises raise with a gentle quirk of his brow. they arenât the same, the burden weighs too heavy for that but he can fake it for the sake of everyone under his wing. still, he smiles, the carve of his jaw lifting. â that way you have the upper hand. â he turns to her, finallyâ who was he to turn down the company of a beautiful woman? a mitt extends, calloused by weaponry. â lieutenant dunsmuir, just joe is preferred though. can i ask your name? you must be tired of all us canadians running amok. â

âThat is true. They were all wonderful women, sadly Anne Boleyn had a tragic fate. But none of them were cursed with this,â Her hand grasped onto the end of her pigtail, frowning. âThis is nothing more than a curse rather a blessing. I tried dying it into a beautiful raven black. But, the dye turned my hair green. I was devastated. My best friend, Diana Barry, had gorgeous black hair.â Anne let out a dramatic sigh, dropping her arms to her sides. âIâm stuck with this hair color for the rest of my life.â

đđ đđđđđđđđđđđđđđ đđ đđđđ đđđđ . May Carleton is extremely hurt by Tommyâs actions and lack of actions. At one point in Season 4 she tells him that he âbites like his horse.â This speaks volumes to May, because horses bite for numerous reasons, but Tommy seems to only fall into a few categories that could be true as far as May sees it. 1) Fear. Heâs not so much afraid of her, but afraid of being with her or what being with May means, so he has to push her away. He could be afraid of changing, to her, because thatâs the only thing he really knows how to do. 2) Dominance. In the heard a horse will bite to show dominance and it seems like thatâs what heâs doing to May. Heâs trying to re-establish a different type of relationship after he tries to tell her off. Pretend she doesnât understand him. 3) Redirecting aggression. Tommyâs on edge during this time, because the italians are in his backyard. Heâs got all of this pent up aggression & anger and heâs now re-directed it to May. Heâs impatient and takes it out on her.Â
My May would never actually say anything about Tommy Shelby thatâs relevant information. Nothing that would give away anything. She canât pretend that she doesnât really know him, because maids gossip and she has kissed him multiple times on her grounds and at the derby. Itâs just not feasible. Itâs not in her nature to seek revenge by telling Mosley anything. Could she? Absolutely, but she still cares deeply for Tommy even if he doesnât for her and she genuinely doesnât want the Shelbyâs to get hurt.Â
How May knows Mosley is something I will discuss in another post. I just want to evaluate what Mosley said about May and how she knows Tommy. Whatâs the higher up social circle saying about her.Â
Mosley describes May as knowing Tommy, but barely remembering anytime that she spent with him or knowing much about him. He equates May knowing tommy as âafter you get off a 3 day binge of drugs and alcoholâ which probably isnât not correct? Especially in Mayâs case. Itâs not so much that it wasnât a cherished time in her life for a brief period, but itâs inappropriate for her to really talk about it. May has to act like she can barely remember speaking or talking to Tommy, let alone doing business with him because her reputation is at stake. She risked it earlier for him when he was just a gangster and she was willing to help him rise in the ranks as she could.Â
May tells Tommy at one point that he thinks his people are bad, but he should try hers on. Then I believe next season he does end up telling Polly or someone else âthat these people are worse than theirs.â May can never be real and any true hurt or time she enjoyed with Tommy cannot be expressed to anyone. Sheâs not close friends with Mosley, most likely sheâs friends with his wife, Lady Mosley, at the time and not Diana Mitford. She might see him in passing or even grew up with him to a degree, but was not a close confidant of his. She would probably confide in Edith, her nanny, but not Mosley.Â
Acting as if he was insignificant in her life diminishes any rumors about them. It also wonât hurt Tommyâs campaign, because sheâs a widow of a war hero/veteran and businessman & her father is a member of the conservative party. It would not look nice to be involved with May Carleton at that point.Â
Saving face would also be a big motivation, as she was left at the race tracks without word from him. Itâs a large blow to her reputation. Heâs a bad 3 day binge that went wrong and everyone will excuse her for it, because sheâs a âsillyâ woman and it wasnât a serious romance. A dalliance. It doesnât matter that inside she really began to feel something for him and she can never express it.Â
May Carleton is not foolish to ever say anything about the Peaky Blinders. Sheâs too proud to ever show the hurt or the true bitterness that she feels in regards to the relationship. Sheâs too prideful to be a silly girl and want something that does not want her back.
