a history of buckynat (1/???)
because iโve been rereading everything again, and iโve already got my increasingly not-so-brief history of buckynat (post-widow hunt), i thought it might be nice to put together some slightly briefer posts going through our favorite murder coupleโs actual comic history. so without further adoโฆ

the one thing that i did think was funny about the bw movie is that when nat was driving in the car she was listening to some girlpop music like yes girl get it
#just something always so funny about a dangerous trained assassin being a pop girlie#sorry to her other boys out of time she will be listening to modern pop

i didn't hate the bw movie but i fear i don't like it for nat. and i will be sticking with her original concept of being born in the '20s and being enhanced with the Super Human serum that also slows the aging process. i also didn't rly care for the whole... actually i had a family all along dynamic and making alexei like a father figure to her when he was literally the worst guy alive and predatory and she was literally BRAINWASHED into loving him in an arranged marriage in the comics.

honestly i kind of understand why nat "sided" with tony. or at least this is my personal analysis of it. i think that she was honest when she said she was more of a neutral stance, was feeling out the field, and that the most important thing is that they stay together. look at what happens when they arent. and like i think that she knows that tony is kind of more of a loose canon than steve. so it's easier to watch him from his side and trusts steve more than anyone to keep a clear head about him.
and i do think that part of her does believe in accountability, given her past, but definitely not to the extent of blindly trusting the u.n. or believing that it had all the right answers. she never thought that. but she's pragmatic, taught to always keep her head down, and given the pr disaster that they were in. well. like she said, at least they still had one hand on the wheel.
her heart was never in the fight when they were against each other. she fought ant man who is like... who? to her. and clint, but not in any way that mattered. and she got out of the scrap significantly earlier than the rest of them. and by the time bucky + steve were making a break for it, she kind of knew that there wasn't any middle ground to stand on. neither side was going to stop. someone was gonna end up dead.
#tbh i do believe that nat is kind of the heart of the group#she has good rapport with everyone#i think it was a little disingenuous for tony to say that being a double agent is just in her nature/blood#i just kind of think steve was right to tell her that he would trust her to save his life!

i also havent really gotten around to whats going on w/ yelena and nat in the mcu besides them being raised as like... sisters...? when in the comics nat had a different best friend growing up in the red room and when they were older they got assigned to a mission together and at the end of it, nat was ordered to execute her. lol :)
#and she did-#she hesitated but she did it#comic yelena was obsessed with being better than nat or something idk whats going on there yet

i'm like sort of piecing together what i like from mcu and what i like from the comics... like it's so messy and inconsistent. especially her childhood and time in the red room. like the movie the widows were genuinely trained in ballet (?) probably for the control that takes. but comics is more like... they were imprinted with fabricated memories that they were trained as ballerinas at the bolshoi theater.
#i was just thinking about it bc theres a comic of little nat when she is still a kid. and she escapes the red room#and she sneaks into the rafters of a real ballet studio bc its warm and she wants to watch the ballerinas#just pondering things idk

i can't be pissing off the girls on twitter but some of the takes on natasha that i see there are like ๐ญ? what do you mean the context for your bucky + clint ship is "rivalling for natasha romantically but she rejects them both so they enemies to lover w each other instead" please never type these words to me again
#woman being a point of contention for mlm ship is sooo tired#im too grown to care that much for discourse its just funny to me like oh fandom spaces u have not grown since 2015#so i just bitch privately where only my friends can see

i'm like very... meh about the whole brucenat thing
#it felt so out of left field and it felt like there was no chemistry there#and then i didnt really care for the speech that sterilization is what helps make the Ultimate Killer#me sweeping this under the carpet#i think it could have been sweet if they did it differently or like... gave them anything in the previous movies...#but to go from next to nothing to 'why do u think i'd have to stay here if u ran away' is like ???#and then him just ditching her anyway im like LMAO#what was the point of it all

one thing i do love is that nat is so well loved by all the dumb boys in the avengers. like yeah its kind of her Thing to be liked, personable, alluring, etc. but their love for her and trust in her comes from a place that's genuine. :(
