Inspired by Freegums
I follow i am OTHER, something that Pharrell put together, on Facebook. There was this video. Framed in a long landscape format, not the traditional 16:9 ratio, that filled about 1/3 of my screen just in the middle. The top and bottom were just black. They featured this artist, Freegums, in a video at first just walking with his dog on this trail. Then, they showed his work, patterns, collages, so detailed and intricately fitting next to each other. He said something that made me think of Mt. Near. He looks at architecture, form, geology, shapes, that add up to create a hill, a mountain, a structure. I think I want that melding of these seemingly different worlds—the wilderness and the city. Maybe what incredible thing we can find in the city, it’s there in the wilderness. And what’s incredible in the wilderness, we can find in the city. I want these two intricacies to meet.

Following a successful #OptOutside campaign, REI continues with the Force of Nature campaign https://www.rei.com/h/force-of-nature. It reminded me of my very first backpacking trip with UCSD Alternative Breaks Havasupai and how going outdoors made all of us in this incredible group so much stronger. This is the reason I’m doing this thesis, Mt. Near.

Pick one, please! I need help naming my thesis brand. Imagine if you were an 18-35 year old that lives in or grew up in an urban area, which of these brand names would make you want to go outdoors the most? Pick one in the comments. . . . #wildernessaccess #nature #design #designprocess #naming #outdoorproject #outdoors #help

As a result of 1.5 semesters worth of research and the help of everyone who was a part of my focus groups, surveys, and conversations, I was able to create a list of curated insights, and the beginnings of a deliverables strategy to guide the rest of my thesis. Thanks for your help! If you’re interested in seeing the insights deck, feel free to PM me. . . . #graphicdesign #designresearch #aau #wildernessaccess #process #designprocess #aau #insights (at Academy of Art University)
