Okay, but I propose that the Buckley parents are not shocked Buck is dating a man.
They are, however, shocked that it's not the man who refused to leave the hospital while Buck was in a coma. The one with the sad eyes who pretended to be fine for everyone else, but whose voice broke just a little every time they overheard him arguing with his son over kids not being allowed in the ICU. The one who, three years earlier, had sat with them in the firehouse loft and talked of Buck like he was something precious. Who, while everyone else told tales of his heroics, told stories of weekends at home and trips to the zoo, and something that sounded a lot like family. The man whose eyes were soft for Buck, but flashed fierce, protective anger for them when they bothered to look.
(Anyway, I have two very strong headcanons at play in this post. The first: that Eddie never left the hospital while Buck was in his coma. The second: that Eddie lead the charge talking up Buck while the Buckley's waited for his return in 4x05 because if Buck's own parents weren't going to love him the way he deserved, Eddie sure as hell was going to make them regret it.)

this is part 1 of my catholic guilt eddie/buddie wip! (working title) i've previously posted small snippets here and here, but this one today is the opening scene!
At the end of the night, after Tommy swoops in and saves the day, delivering Chimney to the altar by chopper, after the vows and kisses are exchanged, after people have eaten and danced and drank and celebrated—
At the end of the night, Eddie finds Buck.
He’s standing alone at the edge of the garden, watching people dance. The party is starting to break up, the crowd thinning out. There’s something wistful and sad in Buck’s expression, and Eddie finds himself walking over to him before he even thinks about it.
“Where’s Tommy?”
The man had been here earlier. After the heroics, he had stayed for a while. Eddie had watched as he and Buck danced together without meaning to, drawn to the two of them slow dancing to the band Maddie hired. Eddie had caught Buck’s eye over Tommy’s shoulder and lifted his glass in a toast. Buck’s nose had crinkled in disgust. How are you drinking right now? he seemed to ask, which made Eddie’s stomach roll in turn, his hangover roaring back to life. He shook his head and pointed to the gatorade bottle on a nearby table. Eddie watched as Buck’s mouth went crooked like it did when he was trying not to laugh.
Tommy had glanced over his shoulder, then. There was something in his gaze when he made eye contact with Eddie, something calculating that had Eddie looking away.
He didn’t know what to do with the flush of embarrassment he felt. Like he had been caught doing something he wasn’t supposed to. He left them to it, slinking away to where Marisol was waiting for him inside.
Now, though, he’s standing with Buck alone.
“Tommy left.”
“He had to return the chopper, huh?” Eddie tries to joke, but Buck doesn’t react.
“He said…” He watches as Buck takes a deep breath. “Tommy and I—It’s not going to work out.”
Eddie doesn’t know what to do with that. “What? I thought you said the second date went well.”
“It did.”
“And then Tommy flew in here, delivering Chimney to save the day. I thought you’d be into all that knight in shining armor schtick.”
“I was. Am.”
“So?”
“It’s just… not going to work.”
“That sucks, I’m sorry man,” he says lamely. “I’d offer you a drink, but.” Buck doesn’t laugh. “Do you want to come over later?”
“I probably shouldn’t,” Buck says, and there’s — something in it that Eddie can’t identify.
“Maybe this weekend, then.”
“Listen,” Buck runs a hand through his hair. Eddie resists the urge to smooth it back down when it sticks up. “Tommy said something before he left, and I—I think he might be right.” There’s a pinched quirk to his lip. “He said that it wasn’t going to work out between us because it’s obvious I’m caught up in my feelings for someone else.”
There’s a whisper of a thought in the back of Eddie’s mind that fills him with dread; he refuses to think it. “Who, Natalia?”
“No.”
“Taylor, then.” It made the most sense, it had been Buck’s longest relationship. The sting of their breakup had lingered. Her betrayal of Buck’s trust had hurt them all, and even if Eddie never liked her, it’s obvious that Buck loved her. Even though the thought of her coming back into their lives made him want to vomit.
But Buck — Buck looks at him with this look in his eye, and he’s not, not sad but more regretful. He’s anxious. Eddie is suddenly, painfully aware that he doesn’t want to hear what Buck’s next words are.
Because he knows what Buck is going to say. He’s going to say it, he’s going to name the thing Eddie’s been so carefully avoiding. Their relationship has been a minefield for years, and Eddie has gotten extremely good at picking his next move carefully, but Buck is about to throw caution to the wind and take a daring step forward without watching where he places his feet.
He’s filled with so much dread in an instant, but he’s helpless to stop Buck as he’s opening his mouth to say:
“Eddie, I think I’m in love with you.”
Buck says the words, and nothing changes.
Everything changes, really, everything that matters anyway, but — it’s not the explosion of movement Eddie is expecting. It’s like the earth stands still. The party sounds fade to nothing, the twinkling lights frozen in time. Nothing moves. There’s no wind, no insects buzzing, nothing at all.
It feels monumental, like something should be shifting. Everything should be thundering with the weight of this moment, but. Nothing. It’s like a hush has fallen instead, the world taking a pause to watch them, waiting to see what happens next, and Eddie—
Eddie takes a step back.
He doesn’t know what Buck’s expression does because he very stoutly doesn't look at him.
“Eddie,” Buck says, but Eddie is already shaking his head and taking another step.
“I have to, um,” he doesn’t even come up with an excuse before he’s turning his back to Buck and walking away.

Instead of writing my finals, I wrote this. Based on this post from @chronicowboy
Maddie bolts out the door, Hen close behind, the Buckleys already on their way to inform the guests of the… delay, leaving Buck and Eddie standing there like lost NPCs. To be honest, Buck feels like one. His head is still pounding so much he can’t hold a rational thought for more than a moment. His movements are still sluggish, each gesture enough to make him feel like he’s back on that sinking cruise ship. Eddie scrubs his hands over his face and lets out a noise that’s half sigh, half groan. “We are never doing that again, right?” “Never,” Buck agrees. He looks at his best friend, really looks at him, for the first time since finding him in the empty hot tub. His suit is completely ruined. Stains and tears and wrinkles tell a story Buck only half remembers. Somewhere between karaoke and the fifth bottle of champagne, Eddie’s shirt got ripped to shreds. Why? Buck doesn’t know. He’d never complain, don’t get him wrong. The suit jacket only covers so much, leaving Eddie’s chest bare and enticing. But… The collar is the only remaining piece of fabric from the shirt. Buck can’t help but wonder if there’s some kind of irony, or deeper meaning behind it still being buttoned around Eddie's neck. Last night was the first night since they met that Eddie actually let loose. His smile and his entire being was so free and beautiful, even in the little moments Buck hardly recalls. And yet that collar remained through the whole night, keeping him captive. His captor? Himself. “C’mere,” Buck says, a little too soft, a little too fond. “What?” Eddie steps closer despite his confusion. Buck reaches up to unbutton the collar. His knuckles brush Eddie’s throat. He feels the bob of his adam’s apple as he swallows. Buck looks into his eyes as he unbuttons the fabric. Eddie’s pupils are blown wide, keeping Buck from looking away. He slowly pulls the collar from around his neck and folds it up before tucking it into the pocket of Eddie’s jacket. He smooths his hand over it, feeling the rapid thump of Eddie’s heart beneath his palm. “Buck,” Eddie whispers, still looking into his eyes. They’ve drifted closer in the short time they’ve been standing there. So close Eddie has to look up at him. Buck takes him in- his mussed hair, his wide eyes, his plush pink lips. Lips Buck knows he caught himself staring at most of the night. “Eds.” Buck trails his fingers down the lapel of his jacket. Echoing footsteps cause Buck to step back, probably more than a respectable distance away. He feels cold suddenly, his heart faltering in its too fast rhythm. Hen appears in the doorway, still looking a little pissed. “What’s holding you up? You lost him, you help find him!” Buck and Eddie share a look before following Hen.

Seven Sentences Sunday
Nobody tagged me but I've finally been writing in the buddie longfic and wanted to share. This isn't the last thing I wrote in it but whatever
Eddie knocks on Buck’s door for the third time, waits for a few seconds, then shakes his head. Still no answer.
“That’s it.” He says, then fishes out his keys from his jeans pocket. He shows them to Christopher, who in turn gives him a bright grin. “He did give me this for emergencies and his low mental health is an emergency.”
Chris nods seriously.
After learning more about mental health issues with Shannon and Christopher going to their own personal therapies and the three of them having their own family therapy, Eddie was worried about Buck’s decline since he heard that he had wholed himself inside his apartment after quitting the fire department. At first Eddie wasn’t gonna tell his son, worried about Chris already dealing with a lot with the divorce being finalized soon, the baby coming, and watching Buck puke up blood and almost die. But Chris had been worried about him already since he didn’t show up for movie night, so Eddie had told him and they hatched this plan together.
After all, what’s better at beating darkness than a burst of sunshine?
“Can I do it?” Christopher asks, giddily.
Once they open the door, his son loudly exclaims, “Buck! We’re here!”
They’re answered with a noise coming from upstairs.
Chris giggles. “He snores loudly.” He then sniffs. “And something smells funny.”
All around the kitchen island are takeout boxes with leftover food and drinks while the sink is filled to the brim with dishes. Yikes. It’s worse than he thought.
Another snore reverberates throughout the entire apartment.
Looks like he’s going to have to do some tough love.

Several Sentences Sunday!!
Tagged by @tizniz @alliaskisthepossibilityoflove @thekristen999 @wikiangela @theotherbuckley all of whom shared AMAZING STUFF y'all should show some love! 💜🩵
I think I've finished Eddie's second oh moment. As it stands, it's just going to be a feelings realization and open ending kinda thing. The end feels a little rushed at the moment so some editing is definitely needed. In the meantime, have way more than seven sentences:
“So what you remembered today made you come to some realizations?” Bobby guesses. “A little?” Eddie winces. “It's always been there, I think, I just… didn't know. That was the moment I realized it and I forgot, Bobby.” “Does the moment you realized it have any effect on the feeling?” Bobby asks. Eddie frowns in thought. It doesn't, of course it doesn't, but… “The feeling will always be there. I just… can't do anything about it now.” “Could you have back then? Would you have?” The gears in Eddie's head stop turning. Maybe that's what's bothering him about the whole thing. It's not the realization itself. It's not the fact he loves Buck. It's not the fact almost dying made him realize it. It's the fact he's been loving Buck for years and hasn't ever told him. Not in so many words. He knows he didn't get his point across telling Buck about the will. He knows. But dammit, he was terrified. Still is. That if he takes that chance- if he decides to tell Buck and Buck doesn't feel the same- he knows he'll never recover. When he thought he could never be an option to Buck, it was manageable. He could love Buck in his quiet way, resigned to the fact he'll always be just the best friend. Now it's not impossible. And yet, at the same time, it is. Because Buck wants Tommy. Buck is happy with Tommy. They go on dates and out dancing and Tommy comes along for movie nights and the other day Buck mentioned Tommy has a drawer at the loft and- And Eddie is still standing where he's always been. Just out of reach of what he wants. What he's never allowed himself to have. What he won't ever allow himself to have if it means keeping Buck as happy as he's been since meeting Tommy.
Absolutely no pressure tagging (and let me know if you want to be added/ removed):

Buck: Did you know that gibbons mate for life by singing to each other? What do you think our mating song would be? I say it's Under Pressure. Eddie: Can we talk about this when you're not inside me? Eddie: Wait… Why Under Pressure? Buck: Got you curious, didn't I, babygirl? *goes on a spiel about why Under Pressure is their mating song*

Can't stop thinking about Eddie holding himself back after the lightning strike. Avoiding Buck's hospital room. Only moving forward to claim space for Christopher once Buck is awake. Waiting patiently at home until Buck comes to him.
He's always waiting. Always holding himself back. Refusing to confront the gravity of his feelings.
This man is standing in the shadows so afraid to take up the space that should belong to him.
And I find that heartbreaking.

Seven Several Sentences Sunday
I was tagged by @alliaskisthepossibilityoflove and I'm about to work a ten-hour shift so before that hits, have a snippet!
“It’s not about money,” Eddie mutters. Buck turns to him, folding himself like origami on his chair. “Okay, what’s really going on here?” “Going on?” “Don’t play me for a fool, Imbolc. I know when something’s up with you. Why do you want to avoid the mountain pass?” Buck pauses, lets the silence linger. “You can talk to me. It’s okay.” He remembers when they’d stopped by his parents’ house in El Paso, and things had been tense. Not enough that it was a stilted dinner, but enough that Hen and Buck had picked up on it. Buck had cornered him at the bathroom afterwards, and Eddie’d told him the truth: it was the first time he’d seen them since they’d tried to take his son. “Listen to me,” Buck had whispered, his voice completely devoid of the softness that usually infused it. “They will never take Chris from you. Ever.” I know, Eddie had thought. They can’t, now, because I gave him to you. Buck’s never said that he wished Eddie had told him sooner. But he still thinks it was unfair, in retrospect, to let Buck wade into that without knowing the truth. If he could go back in time, he’d tell Buck before. He’d let himself bask in Buck’s righteous, protective fury. And because this isn’t real life—because this is D&D—he can do that. He can be selfish.
You are all SO lucky I love you and shared a Buddie fic and not my rarepair that's rotating around in my head like a rotisserie chicken.
When Bobby said that D&D could be a bit of wish fulfillment this isn't exactly what he meant...
Tagging @princessfbi and anyone else, again, no idea who's got something going on.

Seven Sentence Sunday
I took a short break, but now I'm back to the Sci-Fi of Doom! I've got another 10k- 15k words or so left to go!
We're in the weed's folks! Actually, we've been in the weeds for a while, and they just keep getting thicker for all our beloveds. Evil laugh...
....
Athena was desperate to escape the confines of the underground bunker, tired of the incessant flashing red lights and the constant fear of the unknown lurking around every corner. Once she and Bobby were safely home and everyone was rescued, she resolved to remove every horror and sci-fi film from their movie playlists.
Anxiety twisted in her stomach over her husband's fate, yet she harbored a deep-seated belief that he and Buck were still alive. Their bond was one of unshakeable resilience and steadfast loyalty to each other.
She cast a sidelong glance at Eddie, observing each grimace and faltering step. Frustrated by their limited choices, she knew the necessity of keeping him upright. Not that he would have heeded any objections; his own intense loyalty and dedication propelled him forward.
Despite a slight limp, Wilkes continued to take point, leading them down the hall.
Athena went over their options inside her head, various scenarios. What would happen if they couldn't find the maintenance room, if they ran into--
Wilkes raised his fist high. Athena and Eddie halted, their weapons aimed into the darkness, anticipating...
Then she heard it, a slight rumbling. No. Running?
Her heart raced. She listened for signs of Bobby or Buck, for the tell-tale sign they were alive.

Several Sentences Sunday
Thank you to @tizniz @theotherbuckley @your-catfish-friend @diazsdimples and @alliaskisthepossibilityoflove
Here is a little bit of what I've managed to write of the next chapter of Any Other Way :)
---
So, one sunny hot Tuesday in July, when Eddie shows up at Buck’s to pick up Christopher, only to find the two of them camped out in front of the apartment’s AC unit, each with a popsicle in hand - Buck’s red, Christopher’s bright pink - listening to pop music, playing Connect 4, he is reminded of just how much they need Buck, too. They don’t hear Eddie walk in through the apartment’s unlocked door - Buck has told him not to bother knocking while Maddie isn’t home - so their conversation continues where it was, as if he’s just a fly on the wall.
“You’re really good at games,” Chris is saying. “And you don’t always let me win. Tia Pepa always lets me win everything, it’s boring. My mom never did that.”
“Hmm,” Buck says, dropping a token in a slot. “Maddie never let me win all the time when I was little, either. Said it would make me better at the games we played and a better sport.”
“Did it work?” Chris asks.
Buck smirks. “Well, I always win at Scrabble, but I always lose at poker.”
“My mom loved Scrabble!” Chris announces. “I don’t know how to play.”
“I can teach you. I think there’s a kid-friendly version I can buy.”
“Yes, please!”
Eddie doesn’t know why this makes him want to cry. Just that it does. Just that it seems big and important in a way Eddie doesn’t have words for.

a concept: the scene where buck and eddie get together as a direct parallel to the coming out scene. they're talking in eddie's kitchen, the conversation gets a little charged; they're trading heated looks; they kinda know where this is going but they're too afraid to say it. and then buck says, "i should probably go." and eddie nods and says quietly, "okay." and buck is halfway to the door, his hand on the knob—eddie is leaning against the fridge, watching him with wide eyes—there's a close up shot of buck taking in a deep, shuddering breath, scrunching his eyes shut—and then he's whirling around, striding back over to edde and grabs his face with both his hands and just kisses him. and he pulls away almost immediately and they both stare at each other for a moment, their chests heaving, neither of them daring to say anything—but now it's eddie's turn and his hands are in buck's hair and he pulls him back in and they just kiss and kiss and kiss against the fridge in the dying afternoon light.
