how cedar wood is representation for 'odd' black girls

as an african american girl growing up, i was deemed 'odd', in a southern school, where the population was mostly 99% white (and probably.. racist), because I didn't act as they expected me to. i liked anime. i like to draw. i 'spoke well'.

I felt out of place.

enter hit television show ever after high--and cedar wood!

cedar was something special to me, she represents feeling different, she's made of wood--constantly searching for the feeling, of belonging in a place where people constantly look at her strangely, and whisper behind her back. she looks at her wood engraved arms, not compliant enough with the soft plushness of real, human skin.

constantly plagued with telling the truth, so she has no choice but to say the 'right' thing, pleasing people who constantly expect everything great and grand for her--but she has to work twice as hard in everything.

she paints, an enigma, a talent that is only meant for people who are deserving of it, not someone--a puppet meant to hang by its strings--like her with the way that she looks. and the worst part of it all? she's demeaned for speaking out, the same way that cedar is ostracized for her 'rebel' thoughts, is the same way that so many small girls feel when they don't fit into a stereotypical mold.

all because she's expected to 'know' better and adhere to destiny/society.

Guys, writing the Raven and Duchess essay made me remember just how important Lizzie Hearts is to Duchess, and the only thing I have to say is:

Dizzie and/or Kitty/Lizzie is always gonna be canon in my heart, but daaaaaanng girl! Our Queen is walking around getting heart eyes from Daring, Kitty, Cedar, Duchess, Briar and sometimes Maddie even! Queen of Hearts indeed!

Sleepover Headcanons

-apple is the one to host and give the best snacks

-ashlynn would be the responsible one that makes sure everyone goes to sleep on time and is as quiet as possible

-courtly takes pics of everyone as they sleep

-lizzie would force everyone to watch a horror movie and then snore all night keeping everyone up

-blondie insinuates a game of truth or dare for her gossip page

-kitty would plan to draw on faces but fall asleep first

-instead of drawing on faces briar would give everyone full glam makeovers while they're asleep

-maddie barely needs sleep for some reason

-raven would bring her speakers and snacks for everyone but never ends up giving it out cause shes scared no one would take them

-same with gingers baked goods but she and raven end up eating each others stuff

-holly and poppy spend the whole time gossiping and doing each others hair

-bunny brings her veggies and it traumatizes faybelle

-faybelle has the most fun and gets on a sugar high from the snacks

-rosabella spends the whole time journaling and ranting to darling about the latest issues going on

-darling listens and plans to sneak away while everyone is asleep besides maddie

-cerise knows everyone's business and no one knows how

-duchess would start a pillow fight for no reason other than she was annoyed about something

-cupid gives everyone advise while trying to keep her mind of dexter

-cedar braces herself for truth or dare and talks in her sleep
