LCF x ORV is a classic for sure, but it’s always Cale being Young Master Silver Shield with the children, and for that saving a fuck-ton of people.

People, let’s be objective: ORV is not a world for the children.

Instead someone gimme a crack fic with LSH, CJS and KRS being three BFF 40ys old moms having a girls night ‘just like the good old times’ to release stress. Yes, by that I mean absolutely wrecking the scenarios.

gimme a beaming choi jungsoo unleashing all the stoopid humor he kept in for credibility in presence of his uncle (and because of dramatic situation)

gimme Cale/Kim Roksoo tired, tired of the bullshit (secretly enjoying himself a little, but won’t admit it)

gimme a Lee Soohyuk delighted to be able to be the team leader and the hyung again for a while

gimme LSH and CJS doing a sachimi contest with the giant sea snakes, with krs as a referee

Constellations:

GoD is there of course, he’s the one who sent them here, he’s trying very hard to support them with indications and coins but whenever his message windows peeps up the 3 Soos start a bullying competition that leaves everyone around speechless and GoD rolling crying on the floor of his office.

Of course the Soos are too pretty to get a supporting constellation. They roast GoD for even suggesting. Buuuut KRS —the loser— ends up getting one, [The Great And Mighty Seven Years Old], because he can’t disappoint the children. That doesn’t keep the other two from laughing at him for it though.

There’s one thing to sullen the mood of LSH however, and that’s the constellation nickname of the crown prince Alberu, [The One Favorite Hyung]. And the bastard keeps rubbing his ugly modifier in their face by giving krs special quest to say 'please, hyung' to receive a stupid amount of coins. That stresses LSH out because he can’t determine wether krs is accepting them to annoy him (aka, he’s being cheeky) or because the gold is genuinely making him happy (aka: lsh is losing the hyung competition)

hc that xie lian was a nice kid but he never really understood how basic things worked because he never had to do them. so sometimes he would request mu qing to do something absurd like wash and get his clothes ready IN AN HOUR because he has to leave for his parents soon or make him a dish there would take days to prepare for a lunch and mu qing would stare at him thinking if xie lian would ever survive living on his own.

I mentioned some themes of hualian to my therapist today and she said it made her think of the quote “you must love in such a way that makes the other person feel free.” And like damn she really summarized what I love about hualian’s dynamic so much.

Hua Cheng, despite his reverence for Xie Lian, has no expectations or “inviolable monument” of Xie Lian, and vice versa. They’ve seen the worst of each other but that does not waver their love. It makes it stronger.

Some quotes that illustrate this:

“I understand your everything. Your courage, your despair; your kindness, your pain; your intelligence, your foolishness”

“What matters is you, not the state of you.”

I can’t find it but there’s this one quote that’s something along the lines of:

‘I never wanted you to be perfect. I just wanted you to be free to make your own choices.’

(That second sentence might even be from NPAB but still.)

“I have always been like this. You just didn’t know. I remember telling you a long time ago: don’t create an inviolable monument of me in your heart without my consent. I am not the person you imagined, and in the end, it is your own disappointment.”

Obsessed with characters that honestly just try their best. That give and give until they're unable to. That sincerely think they are doing good. That are doing good. And still, it ends in damnation. As hard as they try, as much as they fight, the ending is already set in stone. And it's their fault. They didn't mean to. Oh gods, they did everything in their power to save everyone, to stand with what's right. But at the end, the only they can do is watch as everything crumbles around them, as the end is coming nearer.

i'm reading book two, and some of xie lian's inner monologue is just so unhinged, like what do you mean he would read a bunch of smut fanfics about pei ming if only his cultivation path allowed it?

"many indecent love stories had [pei ming] starring as the main male lead, and if it wasn't for xie lian's method of cultivation that demanded purity of body and of mind, he probably would have read a few of those books just out of curiosity"

not to mention that this is after xie lian spends a paragraph thinking about how attractive pei ming is, how he has "the kind of handsomeness that could steal hearts" and is "very much the charming type". he even describes pei ming's voice as "lyrical"

Xie Lian being a bad cook is a matter of perspective.

Almost everyone's current perspective, but still. I do have a point to make here:

He has been around eating food for 800 YEARS. He has tried literally everything possible from the fanciest fare to the lowliest.

The reason Xie Lian's cooking is "Bad" is because he's trying to make a taste he hasn't had before. But he has had everything a normal person would eat. So he experiments. He overdoes things. He tries the bizarre, the unusual, just to have /something/ that won't bore him. Maybe something boiled down to nothing but ashes and then reconstituted is unpalatable for a normal person, but it's better for Xie Lian than having Chicken Noodle for dinner for the 5 millionth time.

My hot take is that one day Xie Lian is going to accidentally cook something incredible and completely alien that immortals can't get enough of. Who's gonna be laughing then? Definitely Hua Cheng, since he'll be the first one to eat it.

Just finished volume 3!

A bunch of small thoughts I had :

- Hua Cheng came by Puqi shrine and did the chores ? True husband material right here.

- Oh Hua Cheng brought back the bamboo hat because Xie Lian was looking for it in his confusion after the kiss. So sweet.

- Hua Cheng going to the trouble of making little Guzi less afraid of him by showing off his butterflies? Very sweet too.

- Way less sweet is the way he treats Lang Ying. Is he jealous?? Or is it something else?

- Did I really just read about a silk ribbon and a silver dagger fighting for attention by slicing up groceries ? I think I did. Wasn't expecting that. Ruoye and Eming sure act a lot like pets would.

- "The supreme ghost king, who was in the middle of doing the dishes" sounds like the beginning or the title for a fine domestic fluff fanfic. I just really like the wording here.

- Xie Lian's cooking is that bad? Did someone curse him or what? I can't believe it's that bad. Shi Qingxuan hallucinated after eating some of it. Meanwhile, Hua Cheng just gulps the thing like it's the best thing he's eaten in a while, love must have the power to switch off his sense of taste.

- It seems we're off onto an arc where we'll see a lot of Shi Qingxuan, I'm so happy! I've been wanting to see more of Wind Master and Ming Yi, too!

- I noticed Xie Lian rubs he's forehead whenever he's uneasy (also when he's thinking). I like that kind of small details.

Now, onward to book 4, which, if its cover is to be believed, might get interesting!
