I’m proud to announce that my film “Mr Johnson” has been awarded the Best Narrative Feature Award Award of Meritat the Vegas Movie Awards. I wrote the screenplay, along with @ceezeepee and @amidicastri and also directed it and cinematographed it. I was lucky to work with rockstar producers @aimeedherman and @malebomanamela of Azania Productions and a very talented cast and crew who all deserve big recognition and kudos! “Mr Johnson” is a movie about a man (played by Paul Slabolepszy) who wakes up from nearly half a century in a coma, struggling to live the rest of his life in a body and world that make no sense to him. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic it has so far only been released to film festivals but should be available to the public soon. I’m very proud and honoured to announce that “Mr Johnson” is part of the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema (IIFC)’s 2021 Official Selection. The renowned Idyllwild film festival is held every March in the beautiful village of Idyllwild California, near Los Angeles. This year, IIFC enters its 12th season, and continues its vision to garner great exposure for independent filmmakers worldwide, with its own distribution arm and an ever-growing awareness among Hollywood and international industry professionals and media outlets. “Mr Johnson” is a movie about a man who wakes up from nearly half a century in a coma, struggling to live the rest of his life in a body and world that make no sense to him. It’s a film I wrote, and I directed and DOP’ed it alongside a very talented cast and crew. Because of the Covid-19 epidemic, we have had to postpone the cinema release of my film “Mr Johnson”(which I wrote, directed and DOP’ed), but towards the end of 2020, we had a film festival release and I’m so proud to announce that Mr Johnson has brought home three more awards, winning Best Director and Best Picture at the Motion Picture International Film Festival and winning the Grand Prize (the Birmingham Bull) at the Birmingham Film Festival. The last time a South African film won the Birmingham Bull was 17 years ago, so needless to say I’m super stoked about that. I mentioned in a previous post that Mr Johnson also won the Best Feature Film Award and Best Actor Award at the Global NonViolent Film Festival. All of these accolades are very heartening and I’m hoping is a sign the film will do well and be enjoyed when the film is released later this year. Mr Johnson is a drama about a man who wakes up from nearly half a century in a coma, struggling to live the rest of his life in a body and world that make no sense to him. We really had an awesome and talented crew and cast and they are all a part of Mr Johnson’s success. It’s also nice to be recognized by an awards competition seeking to amplify and recognize drama without violence.
