Tips for travelling around Europe
Europe is perhaps one of the most exciting continents in which to travel; its cultures and climates are incredibly diverse, as are its landscapes and attractions. Even William Lao, an experienced traveller who has visited many places over the years, still enjoys exploring its cities, and sharing his photos of his trips on Flickr. However,  exploring Europe can be quite tricky; not only is it often quite expensive, but with so many amazing places to visit, it can be difficult to narrow down your choices and decide which landmarks and sights you want to see.  Here, we share our best tips for travelling around this continent.
The first thing to consider is accommodation. The price of this will of course vary quite a bit, depending on where you are, and what type of place you wish to stay in; however as a general rule of thumb, the further east you go in Europe, the cheaper the accommodation becomes. Hostels and campsites are obviously the most affordable option, and Europe certainly has no shortage of budget-friendly ones; however, if you prefer the idea of accommodation which is quieter, or offers more privacy, you may want to opt for bed and breakfasts, or a holiday apartment. Hotels, whilst more expensive, are a great option if you want a more comfortable travelling experience.
Europe hosts dozens of exciting festivals each year; if possible, try to fit at least one into your travel itinerary, as this will undoubtedly enhance your holiday experience. Perhaps one of the most popular (and strange!) festivals is La Tomatina, which is held in Spain each year. Approximately thirty to forty thousand people participate in this event, which involves throwing around one hundred tonnes of tomatoes for several hours. It's quite a chaotic, but enormously fun festival which is an absolute must if you happen to be in Spain during the summer months.
Each city in Europe has its own unique collection of attractions; whilst we can't discuss them all, there are some sights in each one which you mustn't miss out on. In Paris, for instance, make sure to include a trip to Versailles and the Louvre, dine out in Montmartre, admire the Arc de Triomphe and of course climb the Eiffel Tower. In Berlin, we recommend a visit to the Berlin Wall museums, memorials and galleries during the day, and a night out on the town in the sophisticated neighbourhood of Prenzlauer Berg. Lastly, in Barcelona, don't forget to visit the Sagrada Familia (Gaudi's masterpiece), take in some of the Modernista architecture and enjoy some Catalan cuisine in one of the city's many amazing restaurants. These of course, are just a handful of examples; there are thousands of sights to be seen across this continent, and no matter which country you choose to explore, you'll find a wealth of fascinating attractions.
