Alcohol has been present in human society for thousands of years, and let’s be honest, it’s not going anywhere. As well as being a tool to loosen one’s inhibitions, alcohol can also be a tool in witchcraft and, like most tools and ingredients, different beverages have different associations.

Bealtaine (Beltane)
"Bealtaine" is the Irish spelling and is pronounced as "byal-tin-ah".
"Beltane" is the Anglicised and is pronounced phonetically.
When is Bealtaine? 30th of April to the 1st of May.
What is Bealtaine? It is a Celtic fire and fertility festival that is also known as “May Day”, “Samradh”, and “May Eve”. It marks the coming of Summer.
Traditionally, jumping over a balefire during this festival is said to ensure protection over the forthcoming year - this may be where the “naked-pagans-jumping-bonfires” stereotype comes from.
Bealtaine is opposite Samhain in the Wheel of the Year, and just as they are opposed in position, they are opposed in celebration. Samhain is a festival that in many ways, celebrates death, whereas Beltane is a celebration of life.
• BEALTAINE CORRESPONDENCES •
There are many traditional activities associated with Bealtaine, such as bonfires, Maypoles and feasts, but if we’re going to be realistic, many of us can’t weave flowers into our hair and raise a Maypole in our village square.
Here’s some correspondences and associations that we can realistically work with:
• COLOURS:
Green.
Pink.
Yellow.
Red.
Brown.
Light Blue.
Lavender.
• FOOD:
Seasonal spring vegetables, such as cabbage, asparagus, radishes, onions, and potatoes (UK).
Sweets, such as chocolate, pastries and honey.
Spiced foods, such as ginger and peppers, incorporate the fire element of the festival into celebrations.
Aphrodisiacs, such as oysters, asparagus, nutmeg, and vanilla, incorporate the sensuality and fertility aspect of the festival.
Maybowl (a.k.a., May Wine), is a beverage that is typically made specifically for Beltane. Alcoholic versions of this beverage usually use honey mead or a sweet wine for a base, and non-alcoholic versions may use ginger ale. [Wine & Champagne based Maybowl Recipe]
• INCENSE:
Scents associated with Bealtaine are usually wild, earthy, and are often considered to be sensual.
Vanilla.
Cinnamon.
Patchouli.
Rose.
Lilac.
Oakmoss.
Sandalwood.
• FLORA:
Traditional flowers include: Hawthron, Rose, Sweet Woodruff, and Pansy. Others may include: Bluebell, Marigold, Primrose, and Daisy.
• OTHER TOOLS:
Other tools may include candles, an athame (ritual knife), a brazier or cauldron.
• DEITIES & ENTITIES:
Bast.
Artemis.
Diana.
Flora.
Faunus.
Pan.
Bacchus.
Hera.
Óengus.
Cernunnos.
Herne.
Rhiannon.
Eros.
Aos Sidhe.
• OTHER ACTIVITIES:
Flower Crowns: Flower crowns are a discreet, pretty and very fitting way of celebrating Bealtaine. If you make your own, use flowers that symbolise the festival - if you can. If you are using artificial flowers, focus on the colour correspondences instead. Red is a biggie as it can represent the fire and/or fertility element.
May Baskets: Traditionally, May Baskets were given to women from men (every woman in a household would get one), and they would be filled with sweets and flowers.
Bonfires: **Only if you have a safe outside space.** Bonfires are a simple way to honour this sabbat. They represent fire (you know, because they are fire), they cleanse and they bring protection. They also bring people together, and it is common to accompany the bonfire with a feast of seasonal foods.

“May we raise children who love the unloved things”
by Nicolette Sowder
May we raise children who love the unloved things–the dandelion, the worms and spiderlings. Children who sense the rose needs the thorn
& run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards sun…
And when they’re grown & someone has to speak for those who have no voice
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things
and be the ones.

Tips for morning mindfulness
When you wake up, be mindful of how beautiful the weather is outside of your window. Try and admire it regardless of the season - there’s a different beauty in them all.
When you step of out of bed, be aware of how good it actually feels to stretch your body again. Take in a deep breath and feel the air fill your lungs - notice how energising it really is. Repeat as many times as you like.
When you’re washing your face or taking a shower, focus on how calming the water feels against your skin. Notice how clean your skin now feels after cleansing it. Rub your favourite moisturiser or oil into your skin notice how silky smooth your skin is becoming.
Allow yourself to enjoy making your breakfast. Notice how enjoyable it is to put your ingredients together, no matter how many or few you use - creating any meal is an art. Appreciate how it looks and appreciate how it smells. As you take each bite, pay attention to the flavours and textures.
Before you leave the house, have a personal conversation with yourself. Think of at least three things you are grateful for this morning. Allow yourself to feel a warmth inside of you as you focus on each thing you are grateful for.

Green witch -
green magic.

Green Magic Charms:
An Apple for Love.
Apple is a fruit related with Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty. Thus, it’s her sacred fruit. To ensure your relationship will be fruitful and meaningful, cut an apple in half. Then, together with your lover, eat each half of the fruit. Keep the seeds and later bury them in fertile soil.
Almonds will Show you the Way.
This tasty nut is related with fire and the power of Awakening. If you are looking for something you lost, or just want to be enlightened, carry with you a handful of almonds in your pocket.
Pine against ill.
One of the most powerful passive charms against ill and negativity it placing a branch of pine above your bed. Actually, pine is associated with Fire and immortality. Pine averts negative energies with the power of Fire.
Basil Solar Blessings.
Frankly, this is my favourite herb. It’s diverse blessing can help you in so many – clear and subtle – ways in your life. Even passively, by having 2-3 pots of basil around windows or door, can be enough. Basil attracts the Power of the Sun, enhancing all blessings, prosperity and love.
Lilacs against Uninvited Spirits.
As we’ve told you long time before, having lilacs at home helps us banish ghosts and angry spirits. All you have to do is place some lilac flows in as many rooms as possible. That’s it. When they lose their virility replace them.
Sleeping power of Lettuce.
Maybe it seems kinda funny but many witches know it works. Just rub a lettuce leaf on your forehead – especially the third eye – to induce sleep.

Succulent Magick: Healing from Depression

So I really love succulents, and I've seen a few posts on succulent correspondence, but not much on incorporating them into spells (other than pulling off the leaves and using them but I don't like to do that because I feel bad), so I've come up with my own way to incorporate them into my craft and wanted to share.
The intention of this spell is to recover from a depressive episode, to make real progress towards happiness. Essentially, you will be assigning the intent of the sigil to the safekeeping of the plant, so when you water and care for your succulent you're also caring for your spell and its power will grow as your succulent grows. Feel free to omit or substitute anything you like, especially the crystals and herbs; I'm transcribing it as I performed its meant to be flexible and forgiving.
"My happiness increases steadily" sigil

What you need:
Echeveria Succulent
Sigil (you can use mine, above, or your own)
Pink Candle
Jasmine Water (if you don't have any, you can easily substitute something else like moon water)
Golden Healer Quartz "I find happiness through healing"
Angel Aura Quartz "I am open to happiness when it comes into my life"
Rainbow Aura Quartz "I experience joy"
Clear Quartz to amplify
White Sage to banish unhappiness
Jasmine for happiness
Willow Bark for serenity
Chamomile Essential Oil for peace

First, cleanse and prepare yourself and your space, whatever that means for you. I personally find music really helps me when casting, so I try to find specific songs to fit. (The song I used here was "My Secret Bliss" by Afro Celt Sound System).
Then, light your candle. Draw your sigil. Anoint it with the oil, and charge and consecrate your crystals (you can use the affirmations I listed or your own). Allow that energy to really charge your sigil. You can place your crystals on top of it to charge for a while while you meditate.

When you are ready burn the crystal with the sage, jasmine, and willow bark (be very careful! Use something heat-safe and always have water on hand).

When everything is ash, pour a small amount of jasmine water into it and mix until you have a paste. Make a small hole in your succulents dirt and carefully spoon the ash into it, then bury it again. Say "As this plant grows, so does my spell."
If you try this spell, let me know how it turns out for you, and let me know if you have questions! I have a bunch of others for different succulents I've been working on I may post in future. 💚

Witchcraft 101: Taglocks
If you’ve been doing some reading on witchcraft and spellcraft, it is likely that you’ve seen the word ‘taglock‘ crop up a few times.
If you haven’t, worry not.
A taglock is something that has been used in witchcraft for a very (very), long time and all it is, is an object or substance that forges a strong link between your target and your magick.
Traditionally, taglocks are things such as blood, spit, hair or nail clippings, – direct DNA. The use of DNA creates a stronger magickal bond. Nowadays, however, snagging someone’s blood in their sleep is generally frowned upon and quite difficult, so suitable replacements include cigarette butts, used tissues, used plastic cutlery and easily obtained things of that ilk.
You will notice that taglocks are often used in curses and hexes as it binds the target to the spell and therefore amplifies the magick and ensures that it affects the intended person. They are used in binding spells for the same reason; to tie the person to the magick.
However, bear in mind that taglocks are not malevolent in themselves. They are simply a means of forming a bond and can thus be used in protection, healing and positivity magick!

Real shit tho guys, witchblr puts so much emphasis on divining a little bit often that no one ever talks about the big divining sessions for when you need as much information as possible.
To all the new magic practitioners out there, when you have a few types of divination you're competent in and you have a big issue you want to divine about, GO ALL OUT. Invoke the gods, light the candles, summon the spirits of your ancestors, and use every method you can think of.
Here's an outline for an All Out Divining Session that has all the bells and whistles, so you can see what's what.
First, clean out a big space to divine on. My working altar isn't big enough for lenormand spreads and I don't feel comfortable casting stones on the surface of it because it's a family heirloom, so I clean the big open section of floor in from of the altar.
Cleanse the room you're divining in, check and reinvigorate the wards if necessary. Absolutely nothing is getting in except what I want there.
Spread a fresh cloth to lay your tools on and gather your materials, preparing all of your divining tools. If they need reblessed, reblooded, cleaned or fixed, now is the time to prepare them.
Ready yourself. If you want ritual purity before you directly petition someone for aid in your divination, now is the time to become pure. Change clothes, bless yourself, pray for clarity and Sight, drink your mugwort tea or inhale your Seer's sage smoke.
Cast a circle, light the candles. Invoke whoever is most relevant to the divination: Ancestors, deities, spirits, the holy dead, whoever. Ask them to help you See.
Divine. Go through every method you have one by one. Take your time and go over every omen.
TAKE NOTES. I have a draft book just for this purpose. As I divine I write down just the results of the divination, like drawing a tower out of my tarot deck. If any little revelations come to me, I jot them down. Then, on the next couple of pages, I write down what each thing means, like that the tower means sudden change and misfortune. Then write down what each piece of divination might signal in your life, and a few different ways combining all of these omens might work out- pick the scenario you think is most likely.
Come back to your notes when the whole situation is over and see if any of your predictions were correct. Where did you go wrong or right? Which portents did you read correctly? How did all of the pieces fit together? Reflecting on your past predictions will make you a better diviner.
Not all of these steps are necessary, they're really just the basis of how far you can go. Some gods don't need ritual purity before approaching them, some methods of divining may be left out because they won't be helpful. If you don't plan on petitioning anyone to help you divine or give you their wisdom, you probably don't need to be as stringent about being presentable and safe (though I really reccomend bringing in an entity of some kind because those divining sessions can be crazy good). You don't need to take narcotics to See. This is an outline, not a checklist.
Above all, keep trying! Your first couple of sessions might be confusing or disappointing, but you will get better with every whisper of the fates!
