Because of my newfound obsession with Itachi I had this idea I just wanted to post about

I find it so interesting how Itachi is drawn throughout the story, especially in flashbacks. He is often drawn much older than he actually is. Less so in pre-genin Itachi flashbacks but moreso in the couple of years leading up to the Uchiha clan massacre. He’s always drawn so much older than he is

In scenes like this he’s supposed to be eleven. And okay, the lines on his face definitely don’t help, but honestly I’m not totally against it. Im not home so i can’t pull up the direct quote but when Itachi meets in Daylight Danzo he says something along the lines of “The lines on your face mark a dark path for your future” (definitely not close to the wording but the point still stands). To me instances like that tell me that because of Itachi’s misery, and not really having a childhood he’s supposed to look more mature, more tired, decades of experience for most collected by the time he’s only nine years old. ESPECIALLY on the night of the Uchiha massacre

He doesn’t look like, super grown up, but he definitely looks older than thirteen.

I have this idea that we’re since also seeing Itachi from Sasuke’s perspective most of the time, we see him to appear older because of the distorted perception and perspective of children. I remember being a kid and thinking older kids looked so adult and mature, and I think there’s an air of tragedy in that. Further enhanced by how Sasuke sees Itachi as what he strives to be when he’s a kid, his older brother, his idol.
