Thistle is a giant eagle who stands at 6'8"

He learned the art of healing and making medicines from his mother.

It is unknown to most of the Eagles who the mother of Thistle's son is.

Thistle fights with a spear, which is a common weapon among the Eagles.

He is in charge of the medical aftercare for those who are interrogated in the village.

Like many in the village, he was sculpted into the perfect warrior from a young age. This included rigorous training and an unforgiving upbringing.

His axe is modeled after an Igorot head-hunting axe.

Sumac got his axe by trading a Hawkling for it.

He is bi-lingual. Sumac can speak Eagle and Aseran.

Sumac got bit by a monstrous centipede when he was a teenager. This left a scar on his ankle.

Keina Trivia

Standing at 5'2", Keina is the shortest adult Hawkling in her village.

Like many Hawklings, she is a sucker for strawberries.

Keina has a black horse named Ember.

Night time is difficult for Keina. She will often find someone to have a little tryst with to avoid being alone at night.

She would love nothing more than to live a simple and quiet life, but she keeps this desire to herself.

Vyrik Trivia

He is multilingual. He can speak Hawkling, Aseran, and Common. He also knows a bit of Eagle.

His Love Language is words of affirmation. The Love Language he gives to others is acts of service.

Hawklings love the look of anyone who is different. Vyrik stood out like a sore thumb in the village. His unique looks and charming personality made him a little heart stopper. When he was younger some of the girls called him "Vee Vee" as a little nickname, and many of them had crushes on him. He doesn't hear this nickname often as an adult with a mate, but when he does it makes his face turn bright red to remember that part of his youth.

To pronounce his name, replace the "L" in "Lyric" with a "V" ("Veer-ick"). His name is a combination of the Hawkling words "Vyr" (Moon) and "Ick" (light), and so his name means "Moonlight" in Hawk.

He has a sizeable scar on his butt! He got this when he was a teenager and it's a story that he loves to tell new friends when he is drunk. He will also show it off without protest.

Vyrik and his quad group of friends have always gotten into mischief. They do enjoy drinking alcohol, however Vyrik's favorite thing to indulge in are Hawkshrooms. These mushrooms are a favorite of the Hawklings and grow exclusively in Asera. When eaten in small quantities they cause a slight buzz and small burst of energy. When eaten in larger quantities they cause intense euphorbia and an energy rush.

Being a nocturnal beast, Vyrik can see in the dark and his eyes are sensitive to sunlight. He naturally has thick eyelashes and dark marks around his eyes that help protect them from the sun. This is an adaptation of the Moonwings. Although he is naturally nocturnal, the Hawks made him train his body to be awake during the day time. This has messed with his natural circadian rhythm.

Vyrik was always self-conscience about his unruly and untamable hair. He started to feel better about it when the Hawkling youths began weaving colorful threads and feathers into it. There were several times when he almost cut it out of frustration, but their love for his hair made him grow to love it too. He was devastated when the Eagles cut it all off.

Vyrik's favorite foods are strawberries and salmon.

He loves to cook and is very skilled at it! Cooking for others is one way that he shows his love. Vyrik's favorite dish to cook is venison stew. He makes this dish in a clay pot, which he then places in fire embers to simmer over the span of a few hours.

Mini Bio

Vyrik's mother (Della) fled her Kingdom with him when he was a few hours old. The two travelled for a month until finding sanctuary with an elderly inkeeper. Della was very sick and Vyrik had been born small and sick as a result. He struggled with his appetite and gained weight slowly. About a month later, two Hawklings (Fern and Chieftess Aster) arrived at the Inn after escaping their captors. It was here at the Inn that Fern gave birth to her own son, Jaska. The group grew to know one-another better over the next few weeks. Aster even nursed infant Vyrik for Della, to which the Moonwing woman was immensly greatful. When it came time for the Hawklings to return to their village, Della and Vyrik were invited to go with them.

Della had named her son "Wren" after the tiny birds she had grown fond of. Upon reaching the village, the Hawklings gave him the name "Vyrik" which mean't "Moonlight" in their language. The two were treated like royalty, as the Hawklings were amazed and excited to have Moonwings in their presence. The whole village helped raise Vyrik. He quickly grew to befriend other youths; Lyro, Jaska, and Keina. The group grew up learning the skills of the village together, and also getting into lots of mischief of course.

Vyrik was sixteen the first time he killed someone. He and Keina's older brother, Sage, had gone to the young Hawkling's rescue while she was being being attacked by Eagle youth. Vyrik chased them across the desert grasslands and killed them. He remembered nothing of the salughter, and came back to his conscience covered in blood. He returned to Sage and Keina in a dissociative state. Later that night, he broke down in front of his mother, completely disgusted by what he had done. The woman cleaned him up and had a heart-to-heart with him. He'd simply done what needed to be done in order to protect his loved one.

His mother eventually sucummed to her illness, leaving the teenager alone. He was taken in by Jaska's mother. Later, when Fern went missing, Vyrik went on to live with the Chief and Chieftess. He had grown up with them and was comfortable enough living under their roof. However, Chieftess Aster began drilling his training into him with force. Thus, the Hawkling adults continued to shape the young Moonwing into what they wanted... the perfect weapon.

Vyrik was a flirtatious youth and reveled in charming others his age. When he turned nineteen he and his longtime love interest (Talaara) began courting. It didn't take them long to become exclusive and shortly after that the woman asked him to be her Life-Mate, to which he said yes.

Vyrik continued to train and thrive as a warrior. He and Keina became well-known among the Eagles and were feared by many. During one particularly serious battle, Jaska was gravely injured by Sumac. Enraged, Vyrik pulled his friend from the battlefield and then blindly lept into the fight. After finding himself fighting not only Sumac, but Flare as well, Vyrik was overtaken, nearly eviscerated, and captured.

Vyrik was held hostage in the Eagle village for over a month. It was there that he met captive Hawklings, as well as avians from various other vollages. He was interogated and starved. The Eagles cut his hair to tear away at his pride. He learned many things during that month, from both the Eagles and the other captives. He learned dirty secrets of not only the Eagle village, but his own as well. This left the Moonwing traumatized and shattered.

Vyrik managed to escape with the help of a captive. Once outside of the caves the Eagle's lived in, he made for home. However, on his way there he fell into one of the covered pits the Eagles set up as land traps. He was too weak to climb back out. Vyrik was eventually found by his friends who had come to rescue him agains the village elders wishes.

It was clear that Vryik wasn’t the same upon being liberated from the Eagles. His mind was shattered and no matter how hard his loved ones tried to help, he was struggling to recover. Talaara woke up one morning to find him missing. Sitting on his pillow was the carnelian necklace he always wore. The Moonwing was gone.

Personality

Vyrik is cheerful, friendly, and popular among his peers. He is always putting smiles on the faces of others. As he has grown older he has become flirtatious and revels in charming others his age. Vyrik is well-loved among the villagers and is known for constantly getting into harmless shenanigans with his friends.

Ash is a Hawkling who was taken captive by the Eagles seventeen years ago. She lives among them in their village. Her wings are clipped, which prevents her from shifting into her hawk form. This is to prevent easy escape. Ash plans to return home someday and has been playing the long game. She is not truly complacent. She works with Thistle in the medical clinic. Ash primarily grows and tends to herbs.

Jaska is a man who has had many loved ones taken from him. He lost his father when he was young, and then his mother when he was a teenager. Despite all of this, he has managed to hold himself together for the most part. He is a loyal friend and a was once a skilled warrior. He still goes into battle despite being disabled. His job is to drop and retrieve other hawklings while in his massive bird form. He may not be able to navigate well on his feet, but the man is a fast and agile flyer.

Jaska had a goofy and fun-loving personality when he was younger. He still hangs onto some of these personality traits. However, if he's having a bad pain day he can be quite the grumpy and cynical man. His humor is laced with sarcasm and aggressive jokes, but those who know him know not to take it personally and will dish it right back at him for some fun banter.

Shale is the son of the lead Eagle healer, Thistle. His mother passed away shortly after he was born. He has no recolection of her, and his father has never told him much about her. Shale got the sense that Thistle didn't love her. He started to suspect that it was more of an arrangement than anything else. The adult seems unnaffected from what Shale has seen over the years. He knows the topic is a sore one, but he has always suspected that it was because Thistle felt inconvenienced by the woman's death more than anything else.

Shale began training as an Enforcer at a young age. He didn't like this, nor did he want to participate. However, he didn't have a choice. There were many things that Shale wanted when he was younger. However, he knew he could never have these things. This is the reality of the war he lives in and a direct result of those responsible for raising him and manipulating his mind. The intention is for him to be molded into a fighting machine with a one-track mind. Flare thinks she has it down, but does she really?

Shale is a calm and quiet youth. He learned to disassociate and compartmentalize his feelings from a young age. While appearing apathetic to the war, he is not completely desensitized. He struggles to feel close to others, and doesn't have anyone he would consider a friend. Underneath the stunted emotions is a highly intelligent mind.

Thistle is the head Healer in the village of the Golden Eagles. He runs the clinic and also travels out onto the battle field to treat wounds. He makes a majority of the medicine that is used among the Eagles. Thistle will occasionally travel to the nearby town if there is something he needs that he cannot make himself. He can often be found with Sumac.

He is a quiet man, but far from being meek. Thistle doesn't see the point in droning on about nonesense and wasting one's breath. Instead, he often only speaks when he deems it necessary. The man does give off a cold impression to those who meet him in passing. However, he is a studious man who takes his job seriously. He treats most of his patients with care and respect.

Those being held captive by the Eagles may see a different side to Thistle. An unwelcoming and frightening man. Even so, he very rarely crosses the line with them physically. Although he does occasionally play mental games with them depending on what information is sought.

Best Friends

Rags and Cinder can often be found together. Rags is Cinder's closest companion and his first true friend. They have known each other since they were little, although they never talked or played together. When Rags' mother passed away, Cinder offered him comfort. It was easy for him to relate to Rags, since he had lost his own mother not long before that. The two quickly became inseparable. They are quite the opposites of one-another and Rags often unintentionally drags Cinder into uncomfortable situations. Rags is one of few people who know that Cinder is mistreated by his father.

The history of Keina and Sumac: When Keina was a teenager she snuck out into the grasslands with a group of friends. She ended up being left alone out there in the dark. Sumac and a few of his comrades found her. When grabbed, Keina managed to transform her feet and kicked Sumac in the throat with her hawk foot. He fled the location to tend to the laceration. Shortly after this, Sage and Vyrik came to Keina's rescue. Sumac went unnoticed in the spot he hid at, but his comrades were hunted down and killed by Vyrik. Keina remains fearful of Sumac to this day.

Sumac is an Enforcer in the Eagle village. He takes orders directly from Flare, the lead Enforcer. Each Enforcer was hand-picked by the Eagle Chief, and their job is to maintain order among the other villagers. This basically means they keep them in line and do their best to prevent any uprisings from those who do not believe in the Chief's actions.

Sumac is a confident man who is quick to jump into battle. He likes to have a good time and is friendly with his comrades. However, he will turn on them on a dime if they step out of line or upset him. He tends to be cocky and brash, often letting his status go to his head. Sumac treats his Life-Mate well, but it's hard to tell if he has a genuine care for anyone other than himself. He has been quick to abandon comrades many times in the past.

The forum games have been such a great thing for me to have. I love checking them when I wake up in the morning, off and on while at work, and then before bed. It gives me something to look forward to in the world of constant responsibilities. I genuinely get so happy when I receive a notification. I am glad to be one of the regulars.

Meet Princess Keina!

Keina is the eldest daughter of the Hawkling Chief and Chieftess. She is a skilled warrior who works hard to physically be the best she can be. Unlike the other Hawklings, Keina is unable to shift into a a giant red-tailed hawk. Due to this inability, she makes up for it with her combat skills. The Eagles know her to be one of the strongest of the Hawkling village. She may be small, but she is fast and nimble.

Keina was a young and cheerful youth. However, after being attacked by a group of Eagles she became short tempered and sharp. Underneath the rough exterior is a kind-hearted young woman. She is not always brash and still shares in fun and laughter with her peers.

Many Hawklings simply see her as a rowdy woman and a fierce fighter. What they don't understand is that these personality straits stem from feelings of inferiority and fear.
