“… always?” that doesn’t seem possible. it sounds far-fetched and surreal. and at the same time – it doesn’t. iroh is just like that, he always has been, and zuko is no longer shocked at being on the receiving end of the old man’s affection. but it still – he doesn’t always feel like he deserves it. “you know i wasn’t always the kind of person you should be proud of, uncle.”
he will not refuse the sentiment itself, though; not now. a long journey was taken, and he has grown better for it – stronger, too, but mostly, zuko thinks, a better person. in the coming times, he is going to need that, need this change to solidify in him. and, he thinks, he will do better with the advice of uncle iroh, if he is inclined to stay.
