booktok/romantasy books are like: Man BIG STRONG BIG BIG BIG sexually AGGRESSIVE and POSSESSIVE and ACTIVE, woman small small teeny tiny itty bitty virginal and passive, but she says one sarcastic thing so she ‘takes no shit’ and if you point this out or suggest perhaps it is not very good, you're an internalized misogynist and a traitor to your sisters

the red bull second seat is the worst seat in f1 not only because you're competing with max verstappen but also with his teammate from 7 years ago and they are both winning

anyone else wish they would get roped into a freaky friday body swap situation just for the hope that the other person will go "oh jesus fuck how do you live like this" and instantly validate your feelings of being Strange and Built Wrong.

there’s something so beautifully sisyphean about following a sports team. each season is a cycle of pushing a boulder up a hill, and every time you think, maybe this is the time we’ll get it to the top of the hill. we just need to keep pushing that boulder. then when it rolls down again, you think, okay, maybe this time is different. maybe if we’re sufficiently hopeful and lucky and hardworking we can push that boulder to the top of the hill. and then it rolls down again. and then you decide to keep pushing the boulder —
and it’s maddening. but it’s also kind of nice…because there’s always the next season, and there’s always the same boulder, so you start to almost feel fond of the boulder. and wouldn’t it feel amazing if you did get it to the top of the hill one day? and wasn’t it kind of fun to push the boulder, even if it was painful in real time? anyway, one must imagine sports fans happy

I love how that final conflict in Clair Obscur mirrors Renoir and Aline's conflict in the canvas.
Verso and Renoir want to destroy the canvas, Maelle and Aline want to keep using it as escape from their grief.
At the end of the story, the conflict between Renoir and Aline that threatened the world seems resolved. Aline is out of the canvas, and Renoir agrees to leave the Canvas intact to respect Maelles wishes. If the story ended at that point, I would say it ends on a hopeful note for both the people of Lumiere and the family.
But then there's Maelle and Verso. Both of them are trying to escape a life they don't want, and both of them are trying to save each other.
But at their worst, they become just like their parents. Verso, convinced he knows what's best for his family, willing to erase an entire world to save them. Maelle, drowning herself in her grief, repainting the family she's lost (Gustave and the others), unwilling to let Verso go, unable to move on.
Like father, like son. Like mother, like daughter. They cannot break the cycle.
