I have been thinking about why this threw me (in a good way). Imogen and Laudna have never confirmed their sexuality, nor do they need to. Their relationship has been beautiful, and it was easy to look at it from afar and see two characters deeply in love. Their actions and micro expressions told us a story of longing, pining, and deep connection. If these characters were male and female, we wouldn't doubt the romantic aspect to the connection, but because it was two women, we've almost been conditioned to be cautious.

So many times throughout pop culture, we have seen similar stories of two women, shown through a romantic lens for the sake of viewership, only to be gaslighted and told there were no romantic undertones. If the one gender was swapped in the dynamic, there would be no question about it. I am thinking about characters from Supergirl, Once Upon A Time etc.

The cast of CR do so well and we should give them more credit with creating intricate relationships, but it's hard to allow yourself to feel seen through a character, when in the past you've been shut down and told your views were never supported or valid. I think this just took me by surprise because at some point, you're never too sure if you're reading into things that you wouldn't if two characters were M/F.

Hats off to Laura Bailey and Marisha Ray because these characters are so important to so many. Representation matters.

Not sure if this makes sense but oh well.
