making my resurgence on tumblr for this. obviously people were going to have their problems with this scene because this fandom is allergic to letting qualified people do their jobs and do it well without WHINING. but this particular complaint bothered me.

“why is abby calling joel handsome?”

abby isn’t complimenting joel. she isn’t attracted to him. my guess (very plausible, in my humble opinion) is when the fireflies interviewed the nurses, the only people spared from joel’s massacre, gave their description of him and mentioned his handsomeness becuase of that shock factor. because a stereotypically handsome person, like joel (both game and show), is counter-intuitive to that level of violence. we don’t associate beautiful people with acts of barbarism. they were most likely in shock. and abby heard them say it and latched onto it. I mean, who wouldn’t? if someone shot my unarmed parent in the head (“unarmed” said in quotes, it’s more complicated than that. but i’m operating with abby’s level of knowledge here) and i had to find their brains spewed on the floor, i would go batshit fucking insane. and the people, who got to be with my parent in their last moments, are calling their murderer handsome? of course you would cling onto that. it would make me sick. and so, in her (well-written and well-deserved btw) monologue, of COURSE she harps on that. to spit that same venom back into her worst nightmare’s face. to insult him. to say “sure, you might be handsome. doesn’t mean that you aren’t going to die, painfully and slowly, for what you did.”

i have more counter arguments to people’s STUPID FUCKING COMPLAINTS so prepare for that i suppose.

it’s so much worse. the way ellie tells joel to get up and he tries. the way abby seeps the pointed end of the club into his neck. the way the wlf members don’t even bother knocking ellie out because she is already so emotionally paralyzed by grief she can’t even so much as stand.

but more than anything else it’s crawling to him. all she can muster is crawling with nothing but her arms and cuddling into joel with her whole person. her face buried into the man’s which will forever be the last memory of him. it’s like watching a child seeking the safety of a parent who can’t protect them anymore. this isn’t just the death of a protector. it’s the death of home. joel, to ellie, is safety. safety that she spent the last five years resenting until it was too late. he’s been the one constant in a shattered world. so when he’s dying — or dead — she reverts, not in age but in emotional rawness. she becomes a daughter clinging to a father figure who can’t shield her anymore. and it’s not just fear. it’s complete unmooring. there’s no one left to hold the world up for her. it’s the kind of need that children have when everything feels too big, too loud, too dangerous. she needs to be held. but there’s no one to hold her, so she becomes the one doing the holding, even if he can’t respond. and he’ll never respond.

in one of ellie’s most harrowing moments in life joel was there to cling on to her. in yet another, she clings to him. but he’ll never cling back again.

I think this needs to be said but celebrities deserve to be called out for their zionism. They believe false propaganda and just because you like them or the movies or shows they make, that shouldn't stop you from calling them out. This behavior must not be tolerated anymore.

Silence from celebrities can be deafening and when there is silence, that means there is compliancy to what is going on. Don't be afraid to call them out. To hold them accountable for their actions. We need to be better than them and speak out about what matters.

I'm sick and tired of celebrities who are zionists facing no accountability for their actions while those that speak out about Palestine are fired and refused from being able to work again.

Celebrities should be using their platforms to spread awareness of the humanitarian crisis and if they don't, we should be showing a better example than them.

Never stop talking about Palestine, don't be afraid to call out those who spread propaganda and lies Israel manufactures because they lack morals and amplify the voices of those who are fighting for the freedom and liberation for the oppressed.

Zionism is a plague, an intoxicating and disgusting set of beliefs and it must be scourged from the earth.
