"It's been far too balmy for my tastes. I remember the summers being milder." Her presence, dream or not, felt surreal. Had he been a younger shopkeep-- he'd have run to her side like a little lost child. Though when he had first set foot within these walls, he had been.

Now it was a casual conversation between old friends.

"You really should try this wine-- I thought of you at my first sip." He was already reaching for the sake, grabbing one of the spare cups he'd set aside for that no good bastard, Doumeki. Out of habit.

Nevermind that it was now Doumeki's grandson that looked after him. Watanuki had an inkling that his old schoolmate had not strayed far from his side, even if he could not see his spirit.

amusement twists features softly, in the way that snow appears in the first morning light. finger taps against chin, as though thinking. holding herself back from drawing lines along wood. like touch might anchor her here too long. she is . . . as much as she isn't. perhaps a dream once again. ❛  the weather has been nice of late. -- i cannot voice my desires.  ❜

"Welcome to the Wish Shop. Only those who have need of my services find their way here. So tell me-- what is your wish?" The figure speaking looked as though he'd barely stepped into adulthood-- but his voice rang with the wisdom of a man far older.

The room smelled faintly of plum wine, and smoke trialed from the bowl of his kiseru in a twisting, almost hypnotic pattern.
