The journey to adding to their family hadn’t been an easy one. Carina had always wanted to experience motherhood for herself. She wanted to carry the baby, feel it kicking her and the little movements. She wanted to experience it all for herself but it was rough. Her biological clock was ticking fast and getting pregnant seemed to be near impossible. But she never gave up hope.

Carina had been feeling a little for a few days now but decided to hide it from Arizona as she had this trip to Seattle to assist on a case and the last thing that Carina wanted was to distract Arizona from that. However, when she ended up running into the bathroom to be sick during their video call, there was no hiding that. Carina had taken a test but didn’t want to look at it without Arizona and now hearing the blonde’s words of encouragement over the video call, Carina nodded slightly and sucked in a deep breath.

“Okay…” She whispers softly, mostly to try and calm her nerves down. She needed this to be positive more than anything right now but wished Arizona was here in person to comfort her if it was negative… this video call would have to do for now though… slowly, Carina flipped over the test and her eyes scanned the words on the tiny window. She paused for a moment, dropping the test onto the counter and staring intensely at it. In a small, shaky voice, she managed to speak. “It’s… positive.” She whispered, still in shock and unable to move.

She had the screen portion covered for a moment as she closed her eyes. “3… 2… 1…” she moved her hand off the screen portion, holding the test out towards the phone screen for Arizona to see it first. If it was negative, she couldn’t bear to look first.

Although Arizona had made it back to Seattle safely, Carina couldn’t help but to feel slightly guilty that she wasn’t there. She wanted nothing more than to travel with Arizona, hold her hand and make sure she was okay. But their life was in New York now, and they were both very happy here. “Still, I wish I could be there for you.”

However, Arizona had a case to work in Seattle and it was Carina’s duty to stay behind in New York, take care of Sofia and listen to Arizona’s stories about how things had changed. “I think Jo will find her feet in the end though. She just needs time to adapt. It’s a big responsibility, so we can always help her out if she needs it, hmm?” Carina replied, before that wave of nausea hit her.

The head nod did give Carina a little time to swallow back the sickness she had felt and allow her time to answer the blonde. “Hmm, yeah. She’s been great. She told me she’d drop Sofia off on time, so I’ll believe her. I don’t have a reason not to.” Carina said, simply shrugging a shoulder. “Yes, I’m fine. Don’t worry.” She quickly answered, before swallowing down another wave of nausea.

Carina desperately wanted to go with Arizona to Seattle. Not because she missed Seattle or even wanted to go back there, but because she knew of Arizona’s anxiety. She wanted to help her through the plane journey as she was aware of how bad it could get for Arizona, so the guilt ate away at her just slightly.

“I wish I could have been there for you. To hold your hand, tell you it was going to be okay. Then to stroke your hair if you fell asleep.” Carina said softly, releasing a small sigh. “I would have been there if I could, but I’m glad you arrived safe.” She adjusted her phone just slightly and smiled at the blonde on the screen.

She listened carefully to everything she had to say about Jo. Carina knew Jo well enough to know what a talented surgeon she was, but she was glad to hear that Jo had moved into a field that Carina did, too. “I’m happy for her though. I’m glad she’s doing something that she is now passionate about.” She said, then shaking her head at Arizona’s following question. “I don’t think it’s wrong for you to be mad at him. He should be there.” She simply agreed with her.

Carina tries to ignore the sudden rising feeling of nausea and tries to focus on Arizona’s question. It came on without warning and the Italian was struggling to keep it at bay. To give her a little more time, she shook her head, then sucking in a deep breath. “Sofia is with Callie for half of the day, then back here later on.” She explained.

It sounded crazy on paper to uproot your life for a woman, but Carina was willing to do that for Arizona. She was everything to her and having Sofia in her life was also a key feature. Although unsuccessful thus far, the Italian’s mind couldn’t help but to turn back to the pregnancy test that was sitting in the bathroom. It was surely ready by now, but Carina forced her mind to remain focused on Arizona.

As she told her about the plane journey, Carina chuckled ever so slightly, with a small shake of her head. “I’m sure she didn’t mind you being a nervous wreck. It’s not a bad thing. If she knew what you went through, then she wouldn’t have minded.” Carina said, in an effort to reassure the blonde.

Raising her brows in surprise as she hears about Jo, Carina sighed. “Wow. She’s an OB now? Alex has gone? That’s… strange.” Carina said, her focus switching to her half empty cappuccino. She finished it off, setting the mug down before waving a dismissive hand. “No, you didn’t wake me. I was already awake.”

Uprooting her life to New York was an easy decision for Carina to make. It was going to benefit Sofia and that would make a positive impact in Carina’s relationship to Arizona. She would do anything for Arizona, including moving to another state. That decision was easy. Carina loved Sofia, too. She wanted everyone to be happy and constantly put others needs before her own, however, this move wasn’t like that. It turned out to be good for everyone.

Carina listened carefully as Arizona explained her flight. She hates the fact that the blonde had to travel alone. It was something she did try to help the blonde to avoid, but Grey Sloan didn’t need her this time. So Arizona had to fly alone. With a caring and loving look in her eyes, Carina focused intently on Arizona and her words. “I know planes are scary. But you did it!” She said, a smile now covering her features as once again, she looked on the brighter side to it all.

With Arizona now talking about the hospital, Carina listened once again, sipping quietly on her cappuccino as Arizona spoke. “You’re only there a few days. That’s it. Then you can come home to me and I can talk your ear off.” Carina laughed at her own joke, but it really was true. Her laugh turned into a slight blush as Arizona complimented her. “I just woke up. There’s no way I look good right now.”
