The Price of Forever by Witch_Nova221

The Price of Forever
by Witch_Nova221 (@witchnova221)
T, 22k, Wangxian
Part of the Summer Solstice
Summary: 'It is the nature of men to claim a prize rather than earn one,' said Lan Wangji, blinking past the tears in his eyes, 'Now, to capture a unicorn and to become an immortal means you can claim so much more. Had I...I would have been able to claim a wife, land, fortunes. My own brother, older than me, would have had to bow when I passed. I would have been held amongst the greats but...' 'But you would be cursed,' said Wei Ying, 'That's what they've never learned.' When Lan Wangji injures a unicorn, he learns the truth about the age-old traditions that his clan and the world have undertaken for generations. With a new friend to protect and the pressure of the world upon him, he knows he must pay a price, the cost of which is high on either side. Kay's comments: This story has the loveliest fairytale vibes and I really loved seeing Wei Wuxian as an otherwordly unicorn and the journey Lan Wangji went through in this story and of course, their relationship progression! Very sweet. Excerpt: Short, panicked breaths echoed back at him through the darkness and he conjured a light, letting it hang in the air until it illuminated the narrow cave. The blood glittered darkly on the floor, the trail a little thinner than it had been. 'Get back hunter or I'll kill you where you stand.' A voice. A human voice, hissing at him in anger. Did the unicorn have a protector? One of Lan Wangji's own kind, turned against the practices of old and dedicated to the protection of the creatures the rest of the world hunted? 'I mean no harm,' said Lan Wangji, daring another step further, 'I injured a... an animal and followed it here. I wanted...' 'I know what you did and I know what you want, hunter. Leave now and you may do so with your life.' Lan Wangji took another step forward, the light falling on a bare foot, a long strong leg marred with a bloody gash from knee to hip. The left leg. The same leg Lan Wangji had hit on the unicorn. He took one final step, the light fully illuminating the man curled as close to the cave wall as he could be, only his injured leg outstretched. He was almost naked, caring little for his own modesty in ragged clothes that looked as though he had worn them as a child then torn them as he sprouted into adulthood. He glared at Lan Wangji with eyes that looked too old for his face. Grey eyes that knew everything of the world and still saw wonder in it even if they were now filled with fear.

My final WIP week rec is this story. It’s a modern tale with magical realism. Magical toy maker Wei Ying? Check! Writer Lan Zhan who’s had his creativity drained by caring for his mom who’s dying? Got it. Adorable Lan Yuan’s stuffed bunny getting run over by a car and needing repairs by a magical toy maker? Indeed! This story is profoundly well-written, heartbreaking, joyful, and wondrous. There are tough, sad parts but but the magic and hope of the story are worth it. @doctorbunsenhoneydew

Summary: Close your eyes... Make a wish... Count to three. When his son's beloved toy is damaged in an accident, Lan Wangji finds himself engaging the services of an eccentric toy maker by the name of Wei Wuxian. Whilst his skill at his craft is undeniable, his outlandish tales are hard to believe. Jaded by time and the pressure of raising a son whilst caring for his ailing mother, Lan Wangji struggles to step into the magical world that Wei Wuxian weaves for all he meets. Why does the toy shop stand amidst a street forgotten by time? And why can Wei Wuxian never venture far from his home without someone there to turn a key in the music box bearing his own figurine?

💙 A Never Ending Story by Witch_Nova221

💙 A Never Ending Story
by Witch_Nova221 (@witchnova221)
M, Series, WIP, 239k, Wangxian
Summary: 'Somehow I knew, that day back at Churchill, I knew you were someone essential to me. That part of you was reaching out to a part of me and now I know why.' When Wei Ying fell he was ready to die. To die and to let the world forget him but someone had other ideas. Now, stranded in 21st Century England, he finds himself without a common language, friends or even any memory of who he was before. Luck alone brings him to the steps of Churchill College and to the attention of a young Professor Lan Zhan; expert in ancient pottery and fine art, champion rower, and lover of all things 1980s. With his new friend at his side, Wei Ying begins to navigate his new world in the hope of finding his place in it but echoes of the past are never far behind. Kay's comments: The series is marked as a WIP, but the main story is complete though there is still potential for future snippets! This is a super creative time-travel story that I absolutely adore and that absolutely destroys me whenever I give it a re-read. Instead of Baoshan Sanren ex machina, it also has dark Baoshan Sanren, which I have never seen before and which was so well-done! She was so friendly in the beginning and then slowly but surely... It turned out... That something was very off about her... In this story, after Wei Wuxian's fall at Nightless City (The Untamed canon), he actually travels forward in time, loses his memory, and finds himself in 21st century England where he quickly meets a modern re-incarnated Lan Wangji, who doesn't believe that cultivation is real. Prepare for some major heartbreak and tears, but follow along for a captivating story that has you hooked until the end. The OCs of this story are also very loveable!! Excerpt: Professor Lan Zhan He followed him inside, the room large, lined with books and filled with a scent that felt as though it should scream home but, when he reached for the memory, it fled him. 'Take a seat,' said the man. He sat down in the chair opposite an expansive desk that he was waved towards, the leather worn a little on the arms and he had to fold his hands in his lap to stop himself absently picking at it. 'My name is Lan Zhan,' said the man, pushing another chair around from behind the desk, 'Are you willing to tell me your name?' 'Wei Ying,' he said, only just able to hold back the shout of relief that one thing had not fled him. He knew his name. Wei Ying. Something twisted at the back of his mind, something else that should have been said as well but it fled like all his other memories into the black smoke around his mind, 'I'm Wei Ying. I... I don't know much else. I woke up near some grass and then I tried to find somewhere where someone would help me and I got tired by the door and the golden-haired woman found me and brought me inside. I can't remember anything except my name. I don't even remember how I got there and I just feel...' A wave of nausea and pain came over him again, hurt, confusion, fear, heartbreak all crashing into each other in an effort to overwhelm him but he could not see the reason for it, could not find the answer to why he felt so completely alien and alone in the world. The only anchor, it seemed, was the man across the room who looked at him like a stranger, even if there was kindness in his eyes. 'Wei Ying. Wei Ying, breathe.' He startled as he felt hands on his shoulders, opening his eyes to find Lan Zhan crouched before him, concern etched into his face as he finally caught his gaze.
pov wei wuxian, pov lan wangji, canon divergence, the untamed compliant, time travel, amnesia, temporary amnesia, modern setting, modern with magic, dark baoshan sanren, angst with a happy ending, heavy angst, friends to lovers, professor lan wangji, lan wangji/wei wuxian get a happy ending, implied/referenced torture, set in the uk, murder, blood and injury, implied sexual content, implied/referenced character death, mystery, lan wangji has friends

A Promise in Ink by Witch_Nova221

A Promise in Ink
by Witch_Nova221 (@witchnova221)
G, 1k, Wangxian
Summary: Lan Zhan is given a pen pal in school. For ten years, they write to one another, sharing their lives but never seeing each others' faces until, one day, Wei Ying comes home. Kay's comments: Really loved this idea of Wangxian being pen pals and Wei Wuxian traveling across the world as a diplomat's son. Very sweet and soft story, no angst at all. Excerpt: 'Wei Ying?' he said, the sound of his name coming out a little strange and he cursed that all the poise he had hoped to greet his friend with chose that moment to flee him at the sight of a face far more handsome than he had ever dared imagine it. 'It's me,' said Wei Ying, 'And you're you and I'm finally getting to meet you. Lan Zhan, can I hug you? I've wanted to hug you for years.' Lan Zhan didn't get a chance to answer as strong, warm arms came around him, hugging him tightly. Their friendship had been nothing but words, pages and pages of stories and feelings, but, in that moment, no words were needed. Lan Zhan didn't care how many people looked on as he stood embracing his friend, if anyone thought it strange just how long they stood still and silent, breathing in the reality of one another. All he cared about was that Wei Ying was real, solid and warm in his arms, years of ink made into a man who was everything Lan Zhan hoped he would be.

Work of Heart by Witch_Nova221
Tumblr media
Work of Heart
by Witch_Nova221 (@witchnova221)
T, 17k, Wangxian
Part of the MDZS Secret Santa 2023
Summary: Lan Zhan is challenged by Lan Qiren to survive on a simple budget, rather than the family fortune, for his final year of university. He finds himself a apartment share with art student, Wei Ying, and they slowly become friends. As their relationship grows though, he learns more about his roommate's family situation and the true reason why he is always so busy. Kay's comments: A truly sweet and lovely story, filled with fluff and a hint of angst for the seasoning! I absolutely loved the fast burn between Wangxian and that there were no misunderstandings between them, just love and care and so much sweetness! Also, living for supportive uncle Lan Qiren in this story and the re-appearing dunks on Lan Huan's dating life. In this story, Lan Zhan and Wei Ying live together during their final year at university and immediately fall for each other. Everything would have been perfect for Wei Ying, if it wasn't for Yu Ziyuan making unreasonable demands of him! Excerpt: Living with Wei Ying was an experience. There were days when Lan Zhan believed it was the worst mistake he had ever made. Days when he was tripping over the discarded shoes that never made it into the rack or found himself completing two loads of washing up when Wei Ying had forgotten again that their chore chart existed. Other days though, he could not wish for a better companion, Wei Ying teaching him how to laugh at himself and how to talk of everything and nothing where before Lan Zhan had kept to his own company. His favourite evenings were the ones where he would bring his qin into the living room and play the latest piece he had been composing whilst Wei Ying would set up an easel and canvas and paint to the music Lan Zhan created. It was a joy to watch as his music was brought to life in colour and movement, the paintings as unique and beautiful as the artist that created them.
pov lan wangji, modern setting, modern no powers, college/university, roommates, artist wei wuxian, musician lan wangji, college student wei wuxian, college student lan wangji, strangers to lovers, friends to lovers, getting together, developing relationship, love confessions, emotional hurt/comfort, angst with a happy ending, yu ziyuan being an asshole, emotional manipulation, good uncle lan qiren, good sibling jiang cheng, good sibling jiang yanli, blackmail

💙 Between the Lines by Witch_Nova221

💙 Between The Lines
by Witch_Nova221 (@witchnova221)
M, 153k, Wangxian
Summary: As Wei Wuxian walks a lonely road, he writes frequently to Lan Wangji in Cloud Recesses, unable to receive a reply as he moves from place to place. When fate forces him to remain in place for longer than anticipated, his friend is finally able to reply. With a page and distance between them, words come easier and slowly they come to an understanding of their feelings for each other. When Lan Wangji receives an unexpected letter from Wei Wuxian's hosts though, his hopes of a future for the pair of them is shattered. Refusing to give up, Lan Wangji makes a journey and learns to read between the lines of the story he has been told. Kay's comments: This story. THIS STORY. I was reading it when it first came and out and I have found myself re-reading it frequently, because I like to hurt myself. No worries, there's a happy ending, but... BUT! There's going to be a part in this story where you won't believe that a happy end is truly coming, but it is coming, I promise. It follows The Untamed canon, with Lan Wangji becoming Chief Cultivator and Wei Wuxian travelling and then they start exchanging letters and they confess~ Very sweet, if it wasn't for the heavy angst (which I also love and live for.) And also, impecable found family vibes in this one <3 It starts with as an epistolary but not the entire story is written as an exchange of letters. Excerpt: I do hope you will find time to send a line or two, even if it is just to let me know that you are all well. I keep you all in my thoughts and in my prayers if I ever do pass a shrine that calls to me. Think of your old friend won’t you. I think of you often. As always, I hope you are safe and well and happy. Oh and I shall fathom another guess, as I do every letter, of the title of your song. Today I think it works along the lines of 'ode to a ridiculous boy who is daft enough to get half chewed upon by an ancient tortoise'. Am I close yet? Will you tell me if I have already guessed it in my other letters? I look forward to knowing when I finally get it right. Faithfully yours Wei Wuxian
pov alternating, post-canon, post-the untamed, the untamed compliant, chief cultivator lan wangji, epistolary, letters, love letters, developing relationship, eventual romance, getting together, love confessions, long-distance relationship, families of choice, angst, hurt/comfort, heavy angst, lan wangji/wei wuxian get a happy ending, heavy angst, cultivation sect politics, podfic available

I don't know how @witchnova221 does it, but sometimes she just creates an image with her writing that sticks with me for weeks. This is one of them.
A scene from chapter 17 of her Wangxian fic 'Pure Imagination'. Go read it here - it's still ongoing as I am posting this, but it's so so worth it. I promise!

I slept in and just woke up, so here's what I've been able to figure out while sipping coffee:
Twitter has officially rebranded to X just a day or two after the move was announced.
The official branding is that a tweet is now called "an X", for which there are too many jokes to make.
The official account is still @twitter because someone else owns @X and they didn't reclaim the username first.
The logo is 𝕏 which is the Unicode character Unicode U+1D54F so the logo cannot be copyrighted and it is highly likely that it cannot be protected as a trademark.
Outside the visual logo, the trademark for the use of the name "X" in social media is held by Meta/Facebook, while the trademark for "X" in finance/commerce is owned by Microsoft.
The rebranding has been stopped in Japan as the term "X Japan" is trademarked by the band X JAPAN.
Elon had workers taking down the "Twitter" name from the side of the building. He did not have any permits to do this. The building owner called the cops who stopped the crew midway through so the sign just says "er".
He still plans to call his streaming and media hosting branch of the company as "Xvideo". Nobody tell him.
This man wants you to give him control over all of your financial information.
