Chapter 2: Into the Brightwood
Week 5: Preparing a Conjuring
You've banished the ghosts, but who's to say they won't come straight back? Better to pre-emptively conjure something to fill the empty space.
Quest: Select an energy to conjure into the space of your choosing, to fill the space that whatever you banished was taking up. Seek it out and familiarize yourself with it. How does it feel? How does it handle for you?
Reward: 40xp, +1 skill point to Research, +1 skill point to Energy Sensing

Chapter 2: Into the Brightwood
Week 4: Pre-Emptive Divination
What other cleanup needs to be done in the village? Those ghosts were hanging around for a while; who knows what they've been up to?
Quest: Perform a simple divination with the tool of your choice, asking what issue in your practice deserves the most immediate attention. If you already have an idea of what needs to be remedied, ask what steps would be best to take first.
Reward: 15xp, +1 skill point to Divination, +1 skill point to Psychism

Week 3: All-Purpose Banishing
There may still be ghosts hiding in the nooks and crannies of the village. Your new spherical friend suggests that you banish any that may remain.
Quest: Perform a banishing spell on an area, preferably a different one than you performed the cleansing and blessing on. Compare the energetic feel of the spaces afterwards. Is there a difference?
Reward: 25xp, +1 skill point to Banishing, +1 skill point to Critical Thinking

The creature hops up to you after you finish cleaning the huts. The look on his face makes it clear that he is equal parts pleased and relieved.
>Ask what caused this
"I'm not sure, but I have a hunch that it's ghosts. They've been having a dispute with us Brightwood folk and causing a lot of problems."
"That's neither here nor there, though. No use speculating now. There's much more work to be done."
With that, he gets up and leaves, grabbing a silver blade on the way out.
>Follow him

A magical glow blooms around the spirit, then fades away. He hops around and the ivy leaves fall from him, revealing a curiously spherical creature covered in dense brown fur.
"Thanks a lot, chum!"
>Take map
"No way, we've got a lot more work to do first. Let me show you to my village."
The spirit begins walking deeper into the forest. Without your map, you'll be stuck here forever - it's best to follow him.
The two of you spend all morning walking down a barely discernible trail, twisting ever deeper into the wilderness. Finally, a clearing appears. Before you are cozy wicker spirit huts, but each one is covered in an awful black slime.
"See what I mean?" Your fuzzy guide gestures to the huts. "You just get started here and I'll let everyone know you're free for chores later."
>Figure this out

Well, you're in the Brightwood now. It seems like you might have enough supplies to keep you going. And thank goodness you have that map!
>Check map
What's this? Your map is missing!
Before you, a creature of the forest steps out from behind the bushes. It looks a lot like an apple, if an apple was covered with ivy leaves. The creature stares at you with big eyes, and in its hand is your map.
"Traveler, your coming was foretold."
>It was?
"Well, someone had to come out of the City some time, and whoever it ended up being, we decided to conscript them. Things are all messed up here, and we need your help."
>Ask for details
"The natural order of things is unnatural. Graves appear in the sky, and clouds are trapped within the earth. Our land requires great healing, and that's on you, buddy. Step one: get these ivy leaves off me!"
>Ask for details
"What am I, the Quest Giver? You're the Witch, you figure it out!!"

Chapter 2: Into the Brightwood
Week 1: Check Inventory
You're trapped in the Brightwood - wait, this seems familiar. Well, this is a good a good of a chance as any to take inventory of what you have.
Quest: Update your inventory of all your magical tools and ingredients you have on hand. Note what needs to be maintained or resupplied.
Don't forget to pay special attention to your blessing and cleansing tools. This forest looks like it's going to need some love.

The Towering Gates creak behind you. As they swing shut, the sounds of the crowds behind the wall fall silent.
Ahead of you, a vast and beautiful forest seems to expand endlessly. One long and winding road leads through it to the next city. But you have nowhere to go.
They didn't even let you go back to get all of your stuff.
>Check events
You look in your pack. The three tomes you collected are where you left them, but the red-covered book Calling the Starlight seems to have shifted out of place. Its cover is bent open.
>Check surroundings
This isn't like the forest you traveled through when you came to the City weeks ago. Now it has a dreary feel to it, as if the light and wonder of the Brightwood has faded away.
>Check inventory ... ...

Well, that went swimmingly. You successfully unchain Traversing the Brightwood from the table. After what you've done, the book seems to have really warmed up to you.
You put Traversing the Brightwood into your pack, next to the other two tomes you've already collected.
>Go to 3306 Compendium Way
It's time to get your coins! You step outside the Woodash Stacks.
But a crowd of people is in your way. It seems that one of the High Magisters has arrived at the Towering Gates to calm the crowd - but it doesn't seem to be working.
"The City of Tomes is the safest place for you to be," shouts the High Magister. "The land is embroiled in chaos. The Brightwoods themselves attack us. And beyond-"
"That's malarkey!" someone shouts from the crowd. "The Brightwoods are filled with benevolent spirits." The crowd rustles with agreement.
"It's not malarkey," retorts the High Magister, although she doesn't seem like she's sure what that word means. "The thirteenth star of the Shining Dragon constellation disappeared, and since then the spirit world has fallen into discord."
"But it should be our choice if we leave or not," another person yells.
The High Magister huffs. "Well the gates are very hard to open and close, first of all. If anyone goes out, we're not going to risk opening the gates to let them back in. You'd be stranded out there."
"Well the someone should go see if it's safe," yells the yeller.
"Fine," snaps the High Magister. "Have it your way. Who wants to be locked out of the City in a deadly forest full of corrupted spirits?"
The crowd falls silent. The people look meekly between each other, their mentalities rapidly drained of mob and now suddenly flush with self-interest.
Finally, a vellum-soft voice speaks. "I'll do it." Somehow, the quiet words carry over the crowd.
"Who said that?" demands the High Magister.
>Check who said that
Someone points at you. "It was them!"
>No it wasn't
"I'll go into the Brightwood," the voice repeats. It does seem to be originating near you...
"Very good," says the High Magister. "We have a volunteer. Get the hell out and don't come back unless it's to prove you're not dead."
>Wait, hold on...

Chapter 1: City of Tomes
Week 12: ??
You've found the last book you need, but something is wrong with it. You have a lot of options, but what will you do?
Quest: Cast any spell of blessing, unblocking, binding, or clarity, that would help you at this time.
Alternatively, kick back and relax. That book will probably calm down on its own pretty soon here.
Reward: 20xp, +1 skill point [Free Selection]

Bright light flares around you, momentarily blinding you. When you regain your vision you see that your divination tool is now glowing an ethereal violet.
**You have leveled up! You are now Level 2!**
**You have gained a Divination Tool of True-Seeing +1!**
>Cast Reveal Traversing the Brightwood
You can't do that, you're exhausted!
>Sleep
You sleep until morning. Not even the sounds of the riots outside can wake you from your slumber.
>Cast Reveal Path Traversing the Brightwood
Power flows through you. Using your Divination Tool of True-Seeing +1, the path to the ancient tome Traversing the Brightwood becomes clear to you. It's hidden in a tiny library named Woodash Stacks on the other side of the city, near the Towering Gates.
It will take everything you've learned so far, but by using your skills of Divination, Unblocking, and Binding, you should be able to traverse the City of Tomes without fear.
>Go to Woodash Stacks
You carefully pack up your things and start walking.
It takes you many hours to carefully walk through the city, but eventually you come to the cramped little library built against the city wall.
>Go inside
The little library seems to be abandoned, with few books left on the sparse shelves. In the center of the room is a table. A book is floating above the table, held down by a heavy chain wrapped around it. It's surrounded by a dark cloud of mist.

After hours of taking notes and making plans, you have finally prepared a Ritual of True Seeing.
You carefully copy Ritual of True Seeing into your spellbook.
**You gained a spell!**
>Cast Ritual of True Seeing
