Simple bay leaf wishes spellđŽ
I found a simple wishing spell that i thought would be perfect for baby witches / witchlings such as myself.
What you need:
A bay leaf
A marker
A candle (can be colored to represent your wish if youâd like)
A fireproof bowl or something to safely burn the leaf in
What to do:
Meditate on your wish for as long as youâd like.
Write your wish on the leaf
When you are done meditating and feel ready, burn the leaf using the candle
Place it in the fireproof bowl or whatever you are using
When it has burned throw the ashes into the wind

Iâm planning a series of these âhow I experience and celebrate festivalsâ posts throughout the coming year. Iâm starting with Ostara because it was the first festival to happen after I came up with that plan. I consider my ânew yearâ to be Samhain (in October), but I wasnât about to wait seven months to start these posts. So here goesâŚ
What is Ostara?
Ostara, also referred to as Eostre, the Spring Equinox, or the Vernal Equinox, is celebrated between 20th and 23rd March in the Northern Hemisphere and between 20th and 23rd September in the Southern Hemisphere.
If youâre interested in more general history and traditions of the festival thereâs a LOT of information out there (check out Tumblr and YouTube, as well as independently and traditionally published witchy and pagan books) and I definitely recommend doing some reading and watching. As always with other peopleâs information, I advise absorbing it with an open mind, meditating on what youâve absorbed, keeping what works for you and leaving what doesnât. That goes for my information too!
This post is specifically related to how I - just one individual eclectic pagan witch - experience and celebrate this festival.
What Ostara means to me
Ostara is a time of renewal and reawakening, growing from balance. Day and night, light and dark, stand hand to hand as equals, and the place were dawn meets stars sparks the first fires of potential and possibility. Cleansing is both an open-hearted letting go and an open-armed welcoming. Hope and gratitude weave through manifestation and intentions take flight with every deep, refreshing breath of sweet spring air.
Ritual to cleanse your home and invite creative energy
Cleanse your home with sage or palo santo smoke. You could also use any incense that you associate with cleansing. If you prefer not to burn things, or your environment doesnât allow for it for health or safety reasons, you might prefer to make a cleansing spray with water and essential oils, or a cleansing gem elixir. The point is, whatever youâre using should be filled with your cleansing intent. Energy is everything.
The following words are mine. They popped into my head a couple of years ago, the first time I did this ritual, and I liked them so they stuck. They arenât part of any spiritual tradition but youâre welcome to use them if they resonate with you. Alternatively, you can come up with your own words to speak while you cleanse your home.
Our home is cleansed of pain and fear
From earth below to sky above
We welcome joy and comfort here
In perfect trust and perfect love
Anoint entranceways (doors and windows) with bay and black salt to cleanse and banish negativity, and promote creative energy. Again, if bay and black salt donât do it for you, feel free to choose any herbs, oils etc that you associate with cleansing, banishing negativity and promoting creative energy. If it isnât practical or safe for you to anoint parts of your home for whatever reason, you might want to leave carefully chosen crystals, flowers or other representations of your intention in specific places, or simply anoint entranceways with your own energy. You do you.
In freshly cleansed home, place elemental representations at cardinal points and cast a circle. You can get into full srs bsns ritual circle-casting mode, whatever that means to you, or you can take a more casual approach. Again, itâs personal choice. When Iâm doing workings like this that involve a lot of moving around and are focused on positive vibes, I tend to keep things quite light and casual because it feels right to me. If it doesnât feel right to you, do something that does!
Again, these words are my own and youâre welcome to use them if they resonate with you. Alternatively, you can choose any suitable words to invite creative energy into your home and heart.
With my heart and soul as fertile ground
I grow in strength and courage
Charging and channelling creative energies
I welcome adventure and abundance
Happy Ostara, lovely witches!

Guild Book contents
The way I practice my craft, having a guild book, or grimoire/book of shadows, is absolutely essential. Not only does it help my artist/designer side, it helps me curate a handbook specific to my needs and interests.
I see plenty of posts offering ideas of what could go in a guild book. All of them truly resourceful, but I donât want to just fill my book with information that I may never use. The information has to help me, specifically.
Iâm going to plan out the beginning of my guild book and list out possible information thatâll help me as a Christian witch. Hopefully this helps out anyone else of any practice of witchery.
**First page leave blank
âŞď¸ Sacred space ritual - explaination of my cleansing ritual. When Iâm about to do any kind of âwitchy activityâ that isnât so casual I like to make the space Iâm in sacred. I do a small cleansing ritual with frankincense and myrr.
âŞď¸ Charm-Jar instructions - one of the ways I make an Intent is by using charms and a jar. I could explain the process and possible charms.
âŞď¸ Prayers - I like to make my own prayers and incantations/chants. Itâs kind of a form of poetry.
âŞď¸ Latin Phrases - I also enjoy using Latin in my prayers.
âŞď¸ Tarot Card interpretations - writing things down helps me learn and remember things and itâll be a great way to understanding my favorite deck, Aquarian Tarot Deck.
âŞď¸ Rune interpretations - I also dabble in rune-reading for guidance so writing those down to learn them is a great thing to have. Also a good reference section.
âŞď¸ Crystal index - again, to learn them, to have a reference and to use as a log to know which ones I have and which ones I should buy.
âŞď¸ Color theory - will come in handy when candles are required for an intent and for anything else that needs color for symbolism.
âŞď¸ Shape theory - this will come in handy when creating sigils.
âŞď¸ Sigil index - for reference.
âŞď¸ Intent rituals - descriptions of specific Intent rituals I find online or creat myself.
âŞď¸ Holiday and Special Event rituals - descriptions of things to cook, things to do; explanations of the holiday or special event and things to look out for whether good or bad.
âŞď¸ Alchemy and Horticulture - these are the fancy terms I use to explain activities such as concocting remedies and knowledge in herb properties.
âŞď¸ Dream and Thoughts log - obviously not all my dreams or thoughts are divine visions, but every once in a while my subconscious stumbles upon a gem, best to write it down and keep it safe. Research it.
** Leaving the first page blank:
So I donât really know of a way to keep people from physically seeing my stuff if itâs right in front of them. BUT, Iâm sure thereâs a way to enhance my guild bookâs ability to hide in plain sight, a way to keep it out of the minds of people who may come across it.
I made a sigil with that focus on it. Trace the sigil, or you own, on the blank page every once in a while to keep it strong. I trace it with my finger so it isnât seen but you could write it down so itâs visible.
âHide me in plain sight.â

Beltane Activities and Ideas
Walk the perimeter of your property to check that everything is in good order. Bring trash bags and do a general clean up of anything that is not where it should be.
Make a miniature maypole for your altar if you can not make a full size version
Get a new mirror, or use one you have already, and decorate it with ribbons and flowers for your bedroom
Fill a cauldron or a large bowl with fresh flowers (wildflowers are best)
Braid bracelets out of white ribbons and give them as gifts to friends or family
Make a dish of fruits, berries, nuts and leave in the wood for the animals and fae folk to enjoy
Cut branches of fresh green from budding trees, or make garlands of flowers to decorate the home for this celebration. Hang them on the doors and windows early, so the may sunrise finds them there!
Create a special wreath for the top of the May Pole
Make âMay Dayâ baskets of flowers and leave on friends and familyâs doorsteps as a surprise gift. Maybe theyâll think a faerie did it!
Create hair pieces and garlands for decorating your head or around your neck from flowers that are in bloom
Tie ribbons to trees to celebrate the coming of spring. Make a wish each time you tie a ribbon as itâs good luck to wish for things on this day!
Bathe your face in the morning dew to retain youth. The fair maid who, the first of May Goes to the fields at break of day And washes in dew from the hawthorn tree Will ever after handsome be. Other sources suggest using the dew found under oaks or on ivy leaves. Make a special wish as you wash your face in it or as you drink from a well before sunrise.
Dance the May Pole
During the Maypole dance, think about what you wish to weave into, or out of, your spirit. The Maypole is an ancient symbol of the male aspect of the Divine, while the ribbons are strands of life. Have small baskets of goodies around the room to symbolize the coming abundance and to enjoy after the Circle. Magic is hungry work. (from Trish Telescoâs Victorian Grimoire)

What to use when in Witchcraft -
Ok so I am gonna say this is my personal reference, its mainly through associations. You might TOTALLY disagree and thats chill!
Its more something to think about and a guideline of what I use myselfâŚ
Candle Magic:
Carve a candle whenâŚ. the candle represents the target, in sympathetic magic. When, essentially, the candle is a poppet and lighting it is a symbol of destruction or empowerment to the target.
Place something under the candle or before it when⌠you are doing general candle magic, when the candle represents empowering a wish, idea or concept.
Anoint the candle when⌠doing work with spirits and gods, when you mark the candle for a special purpose, when doing high magic.
Herbs and plant work:
Use dry herbs when⌠it is convienent to do so, when the herbs are out of season or when you need to store them in a jar or bottle for a long time.
Use fresh herbs when⌠the spell is very earth orientated, when doing magic on behalf of another or when the magic is sympathetic so that the herbs represent the target, within kitchen witchery.
Use flowers when⌠when the spell concerns love and sex, or perhaps fertility and attraction, due to flowers being the reproductive parts of the plant.
Use fruit when when⌠working with children as a target, or with children practising. When you work with fertility and abundance spells.
Use wood and twigs when⌠when the spell is for protection or binding, for hardiness.
Burn herbs (recaning/incense) when⌠you wish to cleanse or banish, or invoke an atmosphere - that being, for divination using herbs that are said to open up your perceptions, when banishing, burning acrid or pungent herbs.
Use oil infusions when⌠you wish to anoint something, when you wish to mark something permanently.
Use floral waters (rose water etc) when⌠dealing with spirits and gods, for glamour as it has a long history of being used to beautify.
Crystals:
Use metals (haematite, copper, ores etc..) when⌠you work in protection, when you do energy work due to the conductive properties of metal.
Use shell, pearl, coral and such when⌠you work in sea magic, when you work within emotional magic due to the element of water.
Use points when⌠you wish to direct magic to a target.
Use tumble stones when⌠you wish the magic to be gentle or manifest at a certain place on the body on a target.
Use geodes when⌠you work in protection, when you work with glamour aimed to obscure and hide.
Knot magic:
Use cotton when⌠it is convenient.
Use silk when⌠doing spells that benefit the target.
Use ribbons when⌠love spells and wealth spells, as well as confidence and beauty spells. Spells to ensure victory.
Use rope when⌠doing spells that aim to hurt or weaken the target, binding especially.
Poppets:
Use cloth when⌠the spell aims to benefit who the poppet represents, use particular care when sewing or cutting, choose colours that are appropriate to them.
Use wax when⌠you wish to manipulate the target.
Use clay when⌠wish to create fetches or servitors, when you wish to create permanency.
Use twigs when⌠you wish to bury or throw the poppet out, when you want the poppet to be easily destroyed by breaking or setting on fire.
Sigils:
Use an alphabet grid or circle when⌠you wish the sigil to be more random and less attached to you.
Combine the shapes of letters from a sentence⌠when your sigil is very specific and a short term goal.
Use your own personal symbols when⌠you want the magic to be connected to you, when it is personal.

Sabbat Altar and Celebration Ideas for the Solitary Witch
YULE
Altar ideas: Put mistletoe and pine on your altar; put a candle up there to represent the Sun; keep your Yule log on your altar; use symbols of the Sun; decorate with red, green, white, blue, and yellow (red and green for holly, white and blue for snow and wintery colors, yellow for the Sun).
Celebration ideas: Kiss a consenting person under the mistletoe for luck; give gifts; have a feast; make magickal wreaths with herbs corresponding to the spell intent (you might use lilac, lavender, and camomile for a wreath that brings peace into your home).
IMBOLC
Altar ideas: Use candles to represent the return of spring; make a cute little corn dolly; put a Brigidâs cross on there to honor her; decorate with yellow and green to represent the Sun and return of spring.
Celebration ideas: Clean your house; have a self-dedication ritual (to a particular path, deity, philosophy, standard of life, etc.); clean off your working altar and redo it; cleanse and charge any tools or crystals you need to.
OSTARA
Altar ideas: Use fake eggs, rabbits, and other symbols of fertility or spring; put some potted plants on the altar; place some packets of seeds you might be planning on growing; decorate with purple, yellow, green, white, and other spring, pastel colors.
Celebration ideas: Paint and blow eggs (take proper precautions when handling raw eggs, obviously, especially if youâre putting your mouth on them); if you have a greenhouse, want a potted plant, or itâs warm enough where you live to plant outside, plant some seeds; buy a potted plant; organize your herb shelf.
BELTAINE
Altar ideas: Make a mini Maypole for your centerpiece; smack some candles up in there, especially beeswax, if thatâs in your budget; put some faery symbols, like little statues or bells or something like that; a jar of honey or some beeswax is always dope; if youâre comfortable with it, some people like to put representations of genatalia on their altar.
Celebration ideas: Light an awesome bonfire (also be very cautious with this because fire can quickly turn dangerous); leave offerings to the faeries; have a dance outside; this is a good time to plan to have a handfasting ceremony or wedding; cast any love workings youâve been meaning to do; if youâre an adult and have a person/people who consent to it, you could choose to have sex during this time (but do be safe!); many people try to conceive children during Beltaine.
LITHA
Altar ideas: Symbols of the Sun and the Moon, feminine and masculine symbols if thatâs a thing in your tradition; decorate with black and white to symbolize the night and day.
Celebration ideas: Get up before the Sun rises and go to sleep after it sets, so you can experience the day and night; have a bonfire (again, safety is important); have a picnic; just spend a lot of time outside.
LUGHNASADH
Altar ideas: Put bread and grain on the altar; maybe some apples and other autumn fruits; pinecones and leaves are fall symbols; decorate with red, orange, yellow, brown, and other colors of the season.
Celebration ideas: Bake (especially make the cute little bread men); give an offering to the Earth; go to an apple orchard and pick some apples; share a feast with the family or your friends.
MABON
Altar ideas: Wine, or grape juice if alcohol is unavailable for any reason; leaves and pinecones; apples; a money jar (see first celebration suggestion below).
Celebration ideas: For a week or two before Mabon, put money you can afford to give up in a jar, and donate it to charity or a cause you support on Mabon; have another apple harvest; have another feast; do a ritual to honor the Earth.
SAMHAIN
Altar ideas: Pop a few gourds in there, more apples if you want; pictures of the deceased; tools for divination and spirit contact; decorate with black, white, and orange.
Celebration ideas: Divination, spirit communication (obviously only if you know what youâre doing); hold a seance or a dumb supper if thatâs more comfortable for you; light a candle in the window for spirits (use a fake one if you want it lit all night); leave some milk and honey for the Fair Folk; give offerings to the dead; put up wards and shields if youâre one of the people who would prefer to avoid spirit activity.

Cosmic Witchcraft - In the Shadows đŤ
If youâre a cosmic witch who wants to practice discreetly, for whatever reason, here are some tips. These activities are meant to seem mundane to the untrained eye.Â
Take up an interest in astronomy, if you arenât interested already - learn about the scientific aspects of the planets, stars, asteroids, comets, and other celestial bodies
Decorate your room with objects that represent celestial bodies - zodiac blanket, glow stars, moon in my room, celestial globe, astrolabe, posters of the planets or nebulae
Wear jewelry or clothing with astrological or astronomical designs
Go stargazing - take note of the constellations in the sky
Use essential oils associated with the planets in your bath or shower
Make celestial bath salts or shower gels
Choose shower gels or shampoos that are made with ingredients that can be associated with the planets (I know Bath & Body Works does a great job of listing exactly what herbs and flowers they use for their products)
Privately dedicate your meal or beverage to a celestial body of your choice to give thanks for its aid and existenceÂ
Collect crystals that are associated with the planets or the cosmos [1] [2]
Make an altoid tin or shoebox altar
Incorporate planetary or astrological herbs into your cooking [Planetary] [Zodiac]
Enchant every day items with celestial energy, like chapstick, keys, makeup, your name badge for school/work, or any other item you find yourself using on a daily basis
Create a Nebula jar, Star jar, or Black Hole jarÂ
Write your Book of Cosmos or grimoire in OneNote so that it will sync with all of your devices, including PC, phone, and tablet
Draw planetary symbols on yourself where they canât be seen
If you canât burn candles or incense without suspicion, invest in a wax melter - carve planetary symbols or constellations on the wax cube and let it meltÂ
Visit your local planetarium to learn about the stars and constellations
Charge drinkable bottled water with moonlight
Make your own perfume using oils associated with the planets
