All he can muster is a nod. He had the ability to speak but he didn’t want to waste the effort when he’d much rather remain quiet. He’d been there enough times before, so the preacher could probably guess which problem on the list was bothering him with so much as a simple glance or a few questions that could be answered himself.
Jesse hadn’t so much thought of the gun in his pants when he asked if he wanted to sit down, taking it out and making sure the safety was on. For good measure, he takes the bullets out and makes sure there is nothing in the chamber before moving towards the podium at the front. The gun is set on one of the shelves inside of it before he comes back and sits down beside Eugene. ‘It’d be pointless for me to ask if you’re alright, wouldn’t it?’

A bendy straw? It’s something he rarely got, which meant it was more of a privilege this time around. He sucks the glass dry without a second thought and is soon sitting, contented, with an empty glass of water and a bendy straw. “Thanksshhhh.”

his answer seems so obvious ( aside from strained ). he wants to swat himself in the forehead for not just OFFERING him water in the first place.❝ oh, yes —— of course! uhm, one moment please. ❞ without another word he dips back into the house. when he reemerges, he has a glass in hand, straw jutting from it already bent. ❝ here! i hope it’s not too cold for you, sir… ❞

Without so much as a word, Eugene took a seat at the end of the pew. He normally sat there with his dad when they went just in case they had to leave, but now, sitting there by himself, things felt different. He felt-- uncomfortable. His hands remained forcibly stuck together in his lap and eyes were cast towards his feet. The preacher’s face wasn’t something he wanted to look at right now.
It was a stupid question to ask and he understood that the moment Eugene wiped his mouth. If the other could talk properly, it would happen without hesitation. A sigh escapes through Jesse’s nostrils, fingers running through his hair before he waves a hand to a pew. ❝ Y’wanna sit down with me? ❞ As shit as any praise towards God was, he’d learned how to console over the years. Or, at least, how to try.

Was he sorry? If he was the preacher’s friend, then maybe he would’ve known. Maybe he would’ve heard from Jesse Custer himself and tried to do something about all of this. If he had known and did nothing-- then where did that put his apology? Something told him that he could trust him this one time. “It’shhh okay... ‘m still worckkkking on getting over itch.”

Cassidy was nice enough to pour him a glass of water, anything to steer his vision away from his face for a second. He took his time pouring the clear liquid, wondering if he wanted ice, no, he didn’t care much to ask. When he extended his arm to slide it toward him, he realized the difficulty of drinking it without a straw. He placed one and finally handed it to him, ‘ so hell huh – tha’s some shite… ‘m sorry mate. ‘

“Uh... no...” Every now and again he got the urge to draw, so this was a rare moment. That’s probably why his drawings weren’t spectacular either. If he actually sat down and drew regularly then maybe his art wouldn’t look like morphed stick figures and weird shapes. “Do chyuu?”
mutt could vaguely make out the head of a dragon in the other’s drawing. ❝ d’ya draw a lot – ? ❞ he doesn’t usually start conversations ( never been the one for when people attempt to make small talk with him ), but by the way eugene was looking at him, he nods his head towards the drawing.

As much as he’d love to talk, it’d be impossible to get a word out without spitting a mouthful of saliva across the room. He could already feel something dribbling down the front of his lip(?) which he promptly wipes away with his sleep. Talking would only make matters worse, so he stands there, head dipped in shame; silent.
Once he feels the other’s grip relax, the gun slips out easily and he tucks it in the back of his pants. Away from Eugene and not lying out in the open. All of what Eugene had gone through was simple knowledge to him, yet he wonders what had transpired now. ❝ D’ya wanna talk? ❞

There isn’t any fight to keep it in his hands. The gun slips free without any trouble at all and soon he’s standing unarmed, exposed, and naked without a weapon close by to protect him. It could’ve easily been turned the opposite direction, lord knows he’s heard it a million times, but he just can’t do it just yet.
Though the gun isn’t cocked, it’s still loaded, leaving Jesse to approach hesitantly and with caution. When he’s close enough, he puts his hand over it, fingers enclosing around the barrel to point it away from the both of them. ❝ I’m gonna take this from ya, alright? Y’don’t need it. ❞

BEEP BEEP! A pickup swerves out of the way, almost hitting him. The driver flips him off before continuing on. All in all, it’s been a horrible day thus far.

That sound was his stomach. It sounded extremely painful from an outsiders perspective. Eugene hadn’t eaten at all that day and just watching the bakers in the bakery leaving their pastries out to cool wasn’t helping his situation.

In an instant, he’s stricken silent. Tears line his lids and he swallows hard. The pistol in his hand remains but he doesn’t move to cock it or even raise it.

Every time a hand is raised, Eugene flinches. It’s an involuntary action. This time is just like any other. He notices a hand moving and his whole body tenses immediately.

This wasn’t something he did normally, but he really had to use the bathroom. For the third time, he conjured up the strength to knock on the door.
“....Hello?”
