Cassandra was one of those who thought that people like who she was now was a joke. There was no way talking about things would help. So when she gets clients the same, she tries not to let it bother her, but in the end, being she was there, she knew how to change their outlook on it. Alex on the other hand, he was a strong willed person, and she knew it wouldn't change for him easily, but the least she could do was try. He was a tough nut to crack being she knew she was the last person he wanted to talk to. To do that, she compromised and whatever helped him talk, she would do, so batting cages it was, and she also knew she would stick out like a sore thumb.
Watching Alex step in there and seeing his body relax, she knew she did the right thing. Plus a peace offering with the coffee and she just wanted to see him in action and also, get to know him a litter better as she knew they would be seeing one another for a few for his sessions. Alex swung the bat and he was hitting the balls perfectly into the cages and allowing himself to flow and she was impressed just how good his timing was with it, with the first hit of the ball that flew at him. She wasn't interested in doing it, it was more their session and her finally getting to know him. But she also had a job to do and that is what she was going to do. She was going to do her job.
But she also knew Alex was smarter then he lead on or what people gave him credit for, he was onto her and what she was doing. Not that Cassandra would admit it, but it was more of a heads up for her and learning him and what helps him ease up. "You're right I can't. A lot of people act out for different reasons and this one was something I don't think I understand. Which.I guess in this case is good. but you, you can tell me anything and I will know you're lying, because watching you and seeing you talk, I can tell when you're lying or not. Just, keep that in mind and we will be okay as long as you are okay with me." This was her laying down the groundwork on getting him to talk or just really acknowledge her in a way where she knows he is listening.
Seeing him hit another ball and she was impressed her eyebrows raised. Maybe Alex was right, she was overly thinking and just overly asking questions when this was for him to come other and really just let things out. She knew he didn't do all of this on purpose, but it happened and she has to understand why, the victim pressed charges and had this go to court order and she wanted to get him back to work as soon as she could. Shaking her head. "Kind of hard not to when that is all I do when I am awake, and it is hard to step out of that role you know? So I am doing my best as along as you are doing your best to tell me the truths on things. That is all I ask." But she did need to know if someone else knew besides the ones who did.
Nodding her head, she was glad he did tell someone else. "It is not hard at all. Just, sometimes because have to make an example out of someone and I believe that person is you. We all know you don't go around hitting people, or you wouldn't be a pediatric surgeon if that was the case, so you don't have to justify it to me." She just kept asking questions and finally he said it and she knew she had to stop or he wasn't going to do anything. "Okay, and I am sorry if that is what you felt, just trying to get into that head of yours and see what I can do to tell the judge you aren't like that. But you don't want me to, so what can I do to make sure they know who you are and not the person this guy has pinned you out to be?"

Changes; we learn to adapt. We learn to accept the decisions we’ve made. Alex Karev knew all about shifting his daily routine. He used to be the kid that took the time to braid his sister’s hair, to cook a lame dinner just to ensure his family was fed. He took on the job of being the parent; he never once had a real childhood. He always felt like he had to be the adult. Between his parents; one ill, and one was a deadbeat drunk. When Alex had gotten his head out of the gutter he told himself; he’d be better. Make a name for himself. He had to learn to trust; to feel like he didn’t constantly have to be a shark. Someone who had to sabotage to get ahead; it was okay to let people in.
Grey-Sloan was his home. The place he ended up putting down roots in. The place he wanted to build a life in; he fell in love. And love the protective side of you makes you do stupid shit. Alex wasn’t proud of the guy he reverted back to. He told himself he was done getting in trouble with the law, he was done with the punching; with the tempers. He always vowed to never be like his dad. And right he felt his back against the wall, he felt like his future was buried. Bailey’s words rang in his head. She said he went backwards, to the guy who beats people up instead of the peds surgeon that saves the tiny humans. I didn’t plan on beating the crap out of Deluca; it happened. I knew the root of why I did it; I did it because at the time I felt he was taking advantage of Jo; someone I loved deeply. Someone I would’ve done anything for. And now I was facing the music on my own. I wasn’t a surgeon; I was a guy trying to put the pieces back together.
I hated the idea of talking about my feelings, discussing my mistakes. I was aware of my flaws of why I threw the punch wasn’t that enough? Alex was annoyed when he left the office, he was hoping Cassandra would give up on him. Obviously she had her hands on his file, she read his upbringing, the type of career he had; well held. Because the door wasn’t closed yet. But she also read the kind of guy he was; he felt like he was being analyzed, he felt like watchful eyes were closing in on him willing him to break. That’s why he offered a solution for himself; not to help Cassandra get to know him, this was work. The batting cages; he had foud memories, despite all the reasons why he landed with a bat in his hand. It helped him cope, it helped him figure out what he wanted to do. Each time he felt conflicted with himself; he’d go to the batting cages it was therapeutic for him. Not that he’d say that word to the female.
Point was she could’ve said no and forced his hand back into her office. Instead she was batting a lash at him; and saying yes. It would be interesting to say the least; to go hitting baseballs with a women, or his therapist in this case. But she was willing to meet him halfway; he thought to himself once he arrived to the lot he used to find himself at more than once. He’d try; he promised himself. Dressed in a sweatshirt, his old navy blue and a pair of jeans, he had his normal sneakers on; but he had to feel like a weight had been lifted. No work; no pressure this was his element.
His words ran out; and he knew her reply as he inched closer to where the female stood at her the curb.
“ It’s definitely more worth the time if you hit a ball, maybe I’ll be willing to show you once I witness how awful you might be.” A low chuckle to be heard. Did he just laugh? With his therapist, shocking himself as he extended his hand forward to take the coffee cup from her grasp. Trying was the word of today. Was he aiming to see how embarrassing she might be? Yes after all Cassandra has already read all his darkest secrets it was only fair right? Eyes raking over her frame; not too dressing; causal. He had stepped forward; using his hand to take the cap he had on for the full affect of their batting cage outing.
“ Here,” He moved close enough until their bodies were inches from the other as he lowered his cap down on her head, a hint of an amused smile. “ Now you look more ready instead of a fish out of water.” Close enough eyes met herself swallowing thickly before he stepped back; shaking his head he had nodded to the open doors.
“ We pay for a spot in the cages, I’m gonna put in for two hours, that way you can go back to your office job.” A hint of a smile lifted to bare lips; as he had turned his frame to lead the way inside the swinging doors.

Cassandra had seen people like Alex. She had seen the patients who didn't want to be there. Who didn't think they belonged there, and thought it was all a waste of time. She had been that person before as well. That is why they hand her these patients knowing he can relate and really understand just where they are coming from. She can tell Alex was a man of so little words and didn't open up to just anyone, and her being one of those people. She wasn't even upset. It was all getting them in a place that they were comfortable with and helping them relax as they go over everything that needed to be gone over per the ruling.
This whole going to his safe place was new to her. Something new for her to try as well. The batting cages was something she could tell Alex was in his element when it came to that. Was she in hers? No, but it was more about making him comfortable and making sure he knew she wasn't judging him, but more just wanting to understand just what happened and why he ended up in her office to begin with. he works with kids, he doesn't just do this, by what she can see. So this was all about just seeing and what they can do in the future to prevent this from happening again. That is why she did what he needed to have him talk and just let her know just what was going on. Seeing the tension in his body, slowly release, she knew this was working and she did good. but they had a lot more to talk about.
"I agree, but with the charges that was put against you, you have to. I hate you have to, because a lapse in judgment for someone you love I take it was why this happened. There is no wrong way to protect the ones you love, we do what we see fit, and you thought this said individual was hurting her. So, you did the one thing you knew worked and that is never a bad thing." She knew where he was coming from. She knew just why Alex did all of this. But he owed her to get more inside of his head and why this all happened so they can work on everything else and just see what they can do. Hearing everything else as he hit the ball and she watched it fly to the back net, she was impressed.
"Seems you might have missed your other calling." She flashed a playful grin at him before she got serious. "She will be scared because of everything else around her happening. I take it her past wasn't good either which is why she is scared? She knows you and knows you and knows you aren't that person, but lapse of judgement does that and that is just what that was. I know you were trying to protect her not knowing what was going on, and it looked like something else, from what i have read in your files." The mistake he made could cost him his job and she wasn't going to allow that. "Have you tried talking to her?" That is one thing she didn't know as Alex hasn't said either. She wasn't sure how this whole thing was going to play out.
"So if he knew, then why did he go through all of this to make it seem like you were the bad guy?" Cassandra was mind blown. "Does anyone else know what happened and was told by someone other then you?" She needed to know this and she needed to know just who knows so she can ask and make it easier for Alex so they don't have to do too many sessions as she knows he hates it. "This could be a big help with these sessions as well. We won't have to do so many if there is others who know what happened."

Cassandra knew not everyone was comfortable with being with her. It was her job to really pick apart everything and see just who the person is without them feeling like she was judging them. That is what everyone thinks she does, she judges them, when in reality, she wanted them to really see who they are and who they can be after all of this. Maybe that is why she was just trying to really understand Alex and see just the man he was without reading anything else in his file. She did know he was a good man, being he worked with kids and not just anyone can do that. Maybe this was her just wanting the judge to see that side of him and not the one who has walls up more then down.
But she has seen people like him before, hell she was that person before that. She was tight lipped and not wanting anyone to see her for the weakness she had. But Alex, he was a harder one to crack. Maybe it was the toll everything had on him, or it was the fact that he was caught in a situation he hasn't been in before and that alone she was sure rattled him. Not that he will admit it, it was more just him trying to make sure that she didn't read him too well, but she has been with people like him and knew that she had to just poke lightly before she went fully in and let him be in control and he will start talking.
She could tell he was more in his element by the way his stance was. She can't really be mad at him dragging her along to this, because it was different and it meant they would have a good time. She would get to know Alex better and he might just talk. Nodding her head, she can get behind that. She played a bit of sports when she was younger and she was just hoping she didn't lose it. "I wouldn't say you're a complicated fool. You just have walls up and you don't want to bring them down thinking you might look weak in front of people. But this is to help you. I don't see you as a deadbeat. You are far from that. You're just in a rough patch right now, there is nothing wrong with that. But you have yourself a deal."
Watching Alex square up and hit a few balls. Cassandra knew once he was relaxed, she could ask a few questions. But hearing his response, she knew he didn't mean to hurt him. She knew he was more of a person who wanted to protect those he cared about. So, that is why he did what he did. Maybe it was less about hurting someone and more about protecting someone. "And, when this happened, did she think you were trying to protect her?" He raised her eyebrows curious at just how he might respond to this. Maybe it was more he wasn't sure what was going through her head, but Cassandra wanted Alex to know he wasn't a bad person.
"For the record, you did what anyone would have done. Just this said person didn't think you were protecting someone, but more after him, so therefore, he thinks you did it on purpose when I know you didn't if that helps anything."

Cassandra could tell Alex was one of those who holds everything close and doesn’t allow anyone in the way she had wanted to in the first session. Not that she can blame him. His history proves he has been burned a lot more then the average person, and that means that she needed to be patient and get him into his element if this was going to be a process for the both of them. She just wanted the best fo him, she knew deep down Alex was a good man. It was just the process of trying to break through those walls and let his guard down with her. But her being on the otherwise of the desk and not where he was, she remembers trying to open up to someone else, and she loved these cases. But Alex, she knew he was a good man because he helped children and he wanted the best for them. That is why she knew there was a man who cared but right now he didn’t want to be seen as that. It was just more he didn’t want to be there.
Sitting in an office wasn’t ideal, but Cassandra needed to get a feel of him. This was when she knew he needed to do something if he was going to talk to her. He wasn’t an open book. He wasn’t one who was going to just tell her what was on his mind. Which is why she asked the certain questions, and knew this wasn’t going to work, so she did what was best for the both of them and that meant she would do what she could tor really open up his mind. So stepping out of her comfort zone to accommodate him to really understand his brain and why he reacted the way he did, it was better then being in the office and him being uncomfortable, because this was all about him and getting him back to work, and not her comfortability because this was about him and not her.
But she was stepping out of her comfort zone and she walked over in her heels and she met with him with a smile on her face. this was going to be interesting and something she hasn’t done. Something she was interested in seeing just how it works. Seeing Alex a little more relaxed at the batting cages meant, it would be a better session and she can better gage just where he was mentally and how he was handling everything at this point. She figured make it fun and they both try and see just what happens. “So, if I win, I want coffee. For a week and maybe something else I haven’t decided yet. What about you, what do you want if you win?”
She raised her eyebrows, seeing just what he wanted if he won. Which she knew he was going to because she didn’t know what she was doing. She leaned against the fence, and she watched as he picked up the bat. “So you hit a ball and I need you to just humor me and let me know what you’re feeling today. You are in a better mood then the last time, and I can not even deny you seem more relaxed and more at peace with things. SO, just tell me what you want to tell me and I will take that okay?”

Cassandra was used to working with those who didn’t open up to just anyone. She had to work harder and usually those are the most rewarding when it came to helping them overcome things in their head and opening up more to her to fixing things with what happened and what landed them there. That is when she wanted to learn just who they were and see how she can help them. Alex was no different. He was a doctor and had did something bad, and she was wanting to get him back to where he can work and they won’t worry about him being bad for his environment. But she knew better and knew the person who saved kids, wasn’t at all that bad.
She could tell that Alex wasn’t comfortable and she had really tried to make him comfortable. But she knew those type of people and she just needed to do something to make him comfortable and make him want to be there. But she was more like Alex then he thought and she wanted him to see that. She wanted him to see that she was the one who tried to do everything she could to be better for herself and she knew Alex could do the same. Cassandra wanted the best for him and if that meant they get down to the basics and just have him open up and tell her what happened and what he did was a mistake and she knew it was, but she needed him to see that.
So she knew he couldn’t sit in the office, seeing the tension in his body, she decided to do something that might help him and something the Alex enjoyed and that meant taking him to the batting cages and letting him get his rage out there and talk to her in a place he was comfortable at. The coffee was her way of compromising and hoping it helped and seeing it did, she couldn’t help but smile slightly not wanting to scare him away. And nodding her head, she knew how this worked, and they were getting somewhere because Alex was willing to talk, and he was willing to give this a shot if it meant he was in a place where he was comfortable.
Watching him get ready as she paid for the their time. Being it was the least she can do, being he had to be there with her. She watched and he was loosened up and he was ready to just do this thing and really just allow himself to feel again and just hit a ball where she can ask a question and get what he was will tell her. That is all she needed. Once their session was paid for, Cassandra walked over and she nodded her head, of course she knew how too, she grew up with brothers. “I do, my brothers played baseball and the taught me. But you go first and then I will go.” A sly grin pulled at her face and she nodded she was ready for this. She was ready to play ball and he was going to be impressed. She acted like she wasn’t that good, but he knew something or two with the bat and ball.
“So, what do I get if I win? Because I think we can make things more interesting. I know this is to ask you about everything, and we will, just what do I get if I win. And what do you want if you win?” She was going to make this fun and interesting for the both of them. Allow them to have an initiative to be the other and that is what she lives for. She loves it.

Cassandra has worked with so many people. She had seen all walks of life walk into her office who needed help and who needed her guidance the right way to go about things. That is what she found rewarding about her job. She wasn’t always in this position, as she had been there were her patients have been before. It was hard to really put behind her old ways, but she was the one who was helping everyone, and she was the one that everyone depends on when it comes to getting back to work, and getting new ways of dealing with their struggles, and dealing with the anger they may have felt that landed them in the office of hers. But the one person she knew was going to be harder was Alex Karev. He was established and something just happened and he was trying to get back to work.
Being assigned to someone who wanted to go back to work so quick was refreshing. Usually everyone just sits around until she gives them the push, but he was wanting to go back more then being in her office, and she couldn’t blame him. No one wants to see her, no one wants to sit in her office. But she knew he wouldn’t open up there, so she decided to do something she never does. Do a session outside of her office. Alex, she wanted him to feel comfortable, and this was part of her job. She had to compromise as well. So why not go to a place that was close to Alex’s heart and may help him open up. She has never been to a batting cage before, so this should be fun for her as well.
She was never late, she was early and that was her being on time. She was waiting for Alex to pull up, and once Cassandra seen him, she pulled herself up from her car and she greeted him with a smile. She figured to help him calm down, she would dress different and she was more comfortable and in clothes she never wears to the office, and maybe makes her someone he is just hanging out with and someone who would be comfortable to talk to her about anything he wanted to. She wanted to make him feel at ease, and she was teasing him a little bit. Hoping he wouldn’t be so tense around her. This wasn’t about that, and this wasn’t about taking him question things and just having a little session and getting to know the man more then what she would in the office.
Raising an eyebrow as she took a drink of her coffee she had after handing Alex his that she got him, she took a chance and guessed what he might like. Nodding her head. “Session, or just stress reliving talk, whichever you consider but I will pay for this session, but you have to throw me a bone and we will get a little further then we did yesterday. Besides, I can see your shoulders are less tense right now and that means we are in the right environment, so hope you aren’t doubting my abilities yet. Because I think I can take you on with this batting cage and show you I am good at more then just being that annoying person who wants you to talk to me.”
Winking at him and she went over to pay for this session so he didn’t have to worry about it and plus she wanted to see him in action and see just how good he is, and being he might in the wrong line of work if he was good. Coming back she nodded once. “You’re good to go. Besides, might want to take another job if you’re good at hitting these balls. Ever consider you might have been a good baseball player too?” A small laugh was heard from her as she goes over to find herself a bat she might like to try to hit with and hope that Alex would show her how it is done before she makes a fool of herself.

Cassandra had seen everything come in and out of her office. She was there to help people, and she was there to make them better. She has been on the other end of the deal and she has no objections to the way that people handle things. She had seen everyone form lawyers to doctors and to dentist who just needed to get back to work after a few things. But Alex, he was one of the harder ones to crack. She understood it had a lot to do with his past and she wasn’t going to push him, it was just all about getting him to trust her and getting him to open up and tell her just what happened. That is all it was about for her. Not pushing but gaining trust and hoping he would open up soon.
She read his file and knew it was just an one off thing because he was a surgeon for kids, but the guy he punched was trying to press charges. To get back at the man who beat him up. Alex, she could tell he was a good guy, just having a hard time. It had to do with somethings that she can’t discuss. She knew she just needed him to tell her. Cassandra was just waiting for him to let her in and be able to get inside of his brain and hope she can read it better then most. That is all she wanted. Cassandra wanted to make Alex comfortable and if that meant getting out of the office, then that is what she was going to do, because she knew what it was like sitting in that place and being forced to talk. they had more of an idea, and it was going to work. She knew it would.
She could’ve said no to going to the batting cages, but it seems to be a place that Alex knew he could let go, and just be himself and get everything out by hitting the balls, so why would she say no to that. She wasn’t in her regular attire for the office. Instead she was in a pair of yoga pants and she was in a pair of nikes and then a short that went over the waistband of her yoga pants. Meeting up with him she just couldn’t help but noticed he seemed more at ease and he was willing to try on this if this meant she didn’t push him, but more just allowing him to be in his element and ask a few questions to get into his head and see just what he was thinking at this point. What he didn’t know was Cassandra knew her way around a baseball bat and a ball but she liked surprising people.
Laughing at his comment, and Cassandra just shook her head. “So that a promise Alex?” Extending her hadn’t with the coffee and she allowed him to take the one she got him, and Cassandra took another drink of hers and the hat fit perfectly and she nodded her head and just let it stay. “I will pay for the spot if you’d like. That way it is on me this time, and next time if there is a next time can be on you. How does that sound?” She had her work clothes in the car knowing she would have to change before her next session to look more like she was working in there instead of going to work out. This would be fun and she was ready to get inside of Alex’s head and see what caused him to relapse back to the old Alex that everyone said wasn’t there until that moment.
