How does one hate a country, or love one? […] I know people, I know towns, farms, hills and rivers and rocks, I know how the sun at sunset in autumn falls on the side of a certain plowland in the hills; but what is the sense of giving a boundary to all that, of giving it a name and ceasing to love where the name ceases to apply?
— Ursula K. Le Guin – The Left Hand of Darkness (1969, p. 212)

The key to a really good m/f pairing is that they DO NOT kiss. They cannot kiss each other. Except for maybe Once during an extremely high stress scenario they won't talk about afterwards

From a letter of Nicholas II to his wife Alexandra Feodorovna, July 10, 1899:
“My dear, beloved little wife, It seems strange to write to you while sitting downstairs in my room, knowing that you are quietly sitting on the balcony. But tomorrow I will be far away, and I want there to be not a single day when you would not hear from your husband—whether from his lips or by letter—how much he loves you and the three little ones! My dear, this time our separation is short, so be cheerful and try to spend as much time as possible with the children. I have less right than anyone to complain, having such happiness here on earth, possessing such a treasure as you, my beloved Alix, and already three little cherubs. With all my soul, I thank God for all His blessings. In giving me you, He gave me a heavenly, easy, and happy life. Work and temporary difficulties are nothing as long as you are by my side.”
From a letter of Alexandra Feodorovna to Nicholas II, July 10, 1899:
“My precious, dear little husband, I cannot find words to tell you how delighted I was when Archie brought me your adored letter. It was such a wonderful surprise, and I thank you with all my heart—you are too sweet to think of me, and this time I didn’t send a letter for you—what a shame! At night I felt lonely, and each time I woke up and stretched out my hand, I touched a cold pillow instead of a dear warm hand, and there was no one to poke, shake, or tickle me to wake me up. When you left, I looked out of the corridor window as I do in the mornings when you go for a ride. My heart aches for you, and I know—I would fly to you, to clasp you in my arms, shower you with kisses, and tell you of my great love and how it grows day by day, filling my whole life.”

There is an odd thing I see in books sometimes where a character who is defined by their steadfast loyalty to a person or organization is presented with one (1) piece of evidence against them and immediately changes their mind.
I was just reading a book where a character is deeply loyal to the royal family despite being their literal whipping girl, but she immediately decides that the king must be a bad ruler the first time she sees poverty exists. And he is--but it's weird that the 15 years of being whipped didn't convince her but the existence of poor people did.
It often reads like a plot-convenient way of having a character change their mind without having to do any of the actual work or spend any actual time on what it means for them to change their mind. But it also often rings false--we know for a fact that people with deeply held beliefs are often not convinced no matter how much evidence they see to the contrary, much less because one piece of evidence was presented to them.
