My biggest problems with Fear Street Prom Queen
1. No lesbians. I know this is said semi-jokingly but I legitimately I do not want to watch a so-called fear street movie about straight people
2. Almost all of the leads were white. As with my first point, I think “this attractive white person is an outcast and that makes them special” has been done before. The fear street trilogy stars a black lesbian. Give me more queer black characters.
2b. Just in general there didn’t seem to be that many characters of color, even as side characters
3. Aside from being set in shadyside, this movie feels almost completely divorced from fear street altogether, to the point that I even felt the characters weren’t doing enough complaining about shadyside a la the curse.
4. Why would the Falconers live in shadyside in the first place? If Sam’s mom can move to Sunnyvale why couldn’t they? We’ve been shown many times that shadyside is incredibly poor, it makes no sense for a well to do family to choose to stay there.
5. Why is there such a cliquey feeling to shadyside high? This wasn’t shown at all in 1994, where Kate not only sells drugs but is also the president of “every club this shithole has to offer”. I’m honestly surprised that shadyside even has a prom, let alone that people actually care about it.
6. The bland ass main character they gave us, whose two defining character traits are “sad” and “I like a boy”
7. The Goode sheriff?? Who exactly is this person supposed to be? We know Nick’s dad died pre 1978, and that Nick was sheriff by 1994, so who the fuck is this random bitch?

I watched Return to Oz again yesterday, and despite the darker tone, it still has the most welcoming and joyful depictions of the Emerald City I've seen.

I think it's because the Emerald City feels less like a homogeneous society where everyone dress the same like in the other versions.
It feels more like a natural combination of all the weird and colorful characters that fill the Land of Oz.
Fun fact: Several obscure Oz characters appear in the joyful celebration, like the Frogman and the Patchwork Girl

Even Santa Claus himself appears in the crowd.
