‘‘ ah, i’m glad … and here you have her business card — she’s typically available at all hours. ’’ theresia’s smile widened, just a fraction. ‘‘ and i did hear good things; i think you recommended a couple books to my uncle’s friend. i’ll admit … i was curious. ’’
how lovely, to think that her shop was starting to gain something of a reputation so easily. it was more a means to an end, all things considered, or a way to pass time, but she took pride in success anyhow. ❝ i shall see to getting in touch, then--- and i am glad to hear that. opening in a new city certainly comes with its own uncertainties, any reassurance that things are going smoothly is worth much. ❞

What a delight, to return to the spotlight - metaphorical and not so much - where unfamiliar faces called her name. She had missed the recognition greatly. ❛ Pleasure is all mine. ❜ She returned with a bow of her head, her smile bright and warm as ever. ❛ Miss–? ❜
her own attention sat with orphanages, or anything serving to benefit children, but she often made a point of remaining fairly unknown--- such was not the case for a model, she supposed. the smile drew a softer one from sinaldra. ❝ weaver, but sinaldra is MORE than fine. ❞

despite the — end of her medical career, auburn could not deny that there had been a time in her life when she had liked it. those who knew her would say obviously because she had spent years on the study of medicine. had it been just an impulse, the way many things she did were, she would not have endured. there were days when she considered to go back to living patients, only to remind herself of the mess she had caused when she had stopped being all right, the last time. no, everyone would be better off if she stuck to the same small circle of — patients she had had for centuries now. with the occasional exception; she could not not help others, after all. ‘‘ tea would be lovely, ’’ she responded as her eyes scanned their surroundings. ‘‘ and there’s a café, not far from here. but … where are my manners? dr auburn vohon, i work at the clinic. ’’ as a forensic scientist, true, but that typically unsettled people unnecessarily.
ah, how unfortunate. it had been a while since she had felt properly healthy, and it had much to do with volunteer work before, and MOVING then. eating, sleeping and resting often eluded her, as they often impeded the things she otherwise openly WANTED to do. that she should stagger so when facing a medical professional of all kinds of people was unfortunate. ❝ that is one way to make my display all the more embarassing, ❞ she teased softly. ❝ a pleasure, doctor vohon. i am sinaldra weaver, i recently opened a bookshop a little further away. i apologise again, i don’t usually make a habit of nearly fainting in the streets. ❞

“ah yes—that is what i’m known for, i suppose.” it threw him off sometimes when people recognized him outside of the places he was critiquing, but it did happen. he offered her a smile and a slight bow. “ms. weaver, i would argue the pleasure is all mine. and welcome to new haven, as well. how has this place been for you so far?”
she would not admit, however, that she despised the occupation of a CRITIC. it was a pretentious position, one that left a bad taste in its wake, BUT it did not necessarily make a statement about the character of the one criticising. the bow was taken with gentle amusement, and she remained stood straight. ❝ thank you for the warm welcome. it has been perfectly calm so far, in fact. i suppose there is not usually much of a ruckus to be had, as i understand it ? ❞

“ they all warned us about times like this. ” —— @woesday
‘ ‘ history does have a tragic tendency to repeat itself, ’ ’ auburn began as she stirred her drink with far more force than necessary. she did not add how she felt about it, the way her face looked as if she had bitten into a lemon the same way another might bite into an apple should illustrate things nicely. ‘ ‘ so here we go. again. maybe this time, there’ll be a better punchline. ’ ’
❝ was there last time, ❝ she mused pensively. sinaldra had her own cup-- fine tea, appropriately expensive for her taste and ego. milk and sugar, and a splash of lemon. ❝ although i would very much like to hope that it will be a good punchline. ❝

‘ ‘ so we meet again. ’ ’ theresia’s voice was upbeat as she clung to the box she was carrying and her face mirrored the smile in her voice. ‘ ‘ fate is once more working in mysterious ways. ’ ’
@woesday / sc.
❝ so we do, ❝ she chimed back, offering her own easy, sleek smile in return. ❝ it does almost seem as though we live in the same city, doesn’t it ? ❝

false god
“ we were crazy to think that this could work. ” “ remember how i said i’d die for you? ” “ i can’t talk to you when you’re like this. ” “ they all warned us about times like this. ” “ religion’s in your lips. ” “ even if it’s a false god, we’d still worship. ” “ the altar is my hips, even if it’s a false god, we’d still worship this love. ” “ i know heaven’s a thing, i got there when you touch me. ” “ hell is when i fight with you. ” “ you can’t talk to me when i’m like this. ” “ daring you to leave me, just so i can try and scare you. ”
you need to calm down
“ damn, it’s 7AM. ” “ say it in the street, that’s a knock-out. ” “ say it in a tweet, that’s a cop-out. ” “ hey, are you okay? ” “ i’ve learned the lesson that stressing & obsessing about somebody else is no fun. ” “ snakes and stones never broke my bones. ” “ you need to calm down. ” “ you’re being too loud. ” “ can you just not step on my/his/her/their gown? ” “ you’re coming at my friends like a missile. ” “ sunshine on the street at the parade, but you would rather be in the dark ages. ” “ making that sign– must’ve taken all night. ” “ you just need to take several seats & then try to restore the peace & control your urges to scream about the people you hate. ” “ control your urges to scream about the people you hate. ” “ shade never made anybody less gay. ” “ we see you over there on the internet, comparing all the girls who are killing it. ” “ we figured you out, we all know now, we all got crowns. ”
afterglow
“ i blew things out of proportion. ” “ put you in jail for something you didn’t do. ” “ i pinned your hands behind your back. ” “ thought i had reason to attack. ” “ fighting with true love is boxing with no gloves. ” “ why’d i have to break what i love so much? ” “ i’m the one who burned us down. ” “ sorry that i hurt you. ” “ meet me in the afterglow. ” “ tell me this love is worth the fight. ” “ i lived like an island. ” “ tell me that you’re still mine. ” “ tell me that we’ll be just fine, even when i lose my mind. ”
ME!
“ i promise that you’ll never find another like me. ” “ i know that i’m a handful. ” “ you’re the kind of guy that ladies/people/guys want. ” “ living in winter, i am your summer. ”
it’s nice to have a friend
“ video games, you pass me a note, sleeping in tents. ” “ it’s nice to have a friend. ” “ light pink sky up on the roof, sun sinks down, no curfew. ” “ you’ve been stressed out lately. ” “ yeah, me too. ” “ something gave you/me the nerve to touch my/your hand. ”
daylight
“ my love was as cruel as the cities i lived in. ” “ everyone looked worse in the light. ” “ i’ll tell you the truth, but never goodbye. ” “ i don’t wanna look at anything else now that i saw you. ” “ i don’t wanna think of anything else now that i thought of you. ” “ and now i see daylight. ” “ i can still see it all– all of you, all of me, intertwined. ” “ i once believed love would be burning red, but it’s golden, it’s like daylight. ” “ i wanna be defined by the things that i love, not the things i hate. ” “ i just think that you are what you love. ”

‘‘ my … business associate asked me to stop by and ask if you’re interested in some kind of cooperation. she runs a café … and a restaurant, but her current vision is centred around the café. if you’re not interested at all, i can skip it and just buy some books. ’’
that is certainly what she liked to hear. ❝ books and coffee seem a great pair, ❝ she mused gently. ❝ she has my interest, feel free to leave me her contact details, and i can get in touch with her when i have time on my hands-- but please, have a look at the books while you are here, i do pride myself on my store’s selection. ❝

fay had chosen this bookstore for its distance to her school and the consequential lack of classmates she could encounter. there was always a risk she might run into richard, but fate would have to have a sick sense of humour to do this to her today. ‘‘ i might, in fact, require some assistance, ’’ she said slowly, choosing her words with her typical caution, ‘‘ we are supposed to read a book for school. which is not what i need help with. but we do need a specific edition and … the edition we have in the library at home is … outdated. ’’
she seemed a well-spoken youth, at least-- it would be something sinaldra thought familiar. if anything, she preferred the held-back sort of individual in the first place, but with a youthful touch to it. ❝ is that so ? if you would be fine with a potential wait, i can at the very least order whatever edition you need. i will check if i might not have it in stock first, however, of course. ❝

‘‘ you do look a little pale, ’’ auburn noted as she shifted her weight to her other foot, weighing her options despite already knowing the result. she had set the stethoscope aside years ago and had only taken it back out for … family and friends, so to speak, but this did not change much. she could change all she wanted, she could not fully shed her skin; she was a doctor. ‘‘ allow me to walk you to a café, just to make sure that it was really just a harmless scare. ’’
this was neither the first not the last time this would happen, but she usually managed to carry herself gracefully enough to go unnoticed. the stress of moving was catching up with her, however, and she would be playing a poor liar if she claimed starvation had never nearly dug its claws into her in the first place. food was simply... difficult, sometimes. she considered disagreeing, but eventually relented with a light nod. ❝ provided that i am permitted to buy you a coffee or tea for your trouble, of course. ❝

‘‘ i know someone who knows the owner, ’’ eleanor responded with a grin and a shrug. what exactly it was that linked theresia to one freya rosen was beyond her, and she was not inclined to ask. she would leave her daughter her secrets, just like she kept her own tucked away. ‘‘ she spoke highly of it, so i went to give the macaroons a try. they were heavenly. ’’
❝ delicious macaroons outside of france ? what a bold claim, ❝ she returned playfully. she always had been a fan of more exotic cuisine than european usually proved to be, but sweets held a spot close to her heart that was not easy to shake. ❝ i will gladly try it, then. are there any more secret recommendations i ought to be aware of, ere i wander the streets aimlessly some more ? ❝

‘‘ i could recommend you five within walking distance, but i suppose what you are looking for is the newly opened café, just a three minute walk away from here. ’’ eleanor averted her gaze — sharp, focused — from the woman and mentioned towards the corner, only a few hundred metres down the street. ‘‘ roque, deux. it’s still a secret, but it won’t stay that way. ’’
how ominous, and promising all at once. she did wonder how long it would take her to establish relations that were more promising, in new haven. knowing those tiny corners that fit her taste well, or those high-society establishments that were not snobby enough to seem cheap in turn, it was something she put quite some value into. ❝ what a thorough recommendation. may i ask how you came to know of it, if it is meant to be a secret ? ❝

fay was almost self-conscious as she patted her braid softly, making sure that nothing had come undone during her brisk walk to the new bookstore. it had been, like so many things in the recent past, a recommendation. ‘‘ thank you, that’s very kind of you, ’’ fay said quietly, calmly. there was no need to let a stranger know that sometimes, it felt a bit silly. it was not really like her to enhance her appearance, she left that to others.
she appreciated the neatness the other seemed to present but at the end of the day, she was almost terrifyingly motherly-- which often did not merely extend to kids, but rather youthful-seeming and energetic individuals, yet in the need of a certain softness from another. ❝ you are very welcome. please let me know if you need a hand with the books. ❝

athensborn:
dion was shaken out of his thoughts by a voice and he turned—a woman. he gave her a shrewd look and tried to access the part of his brain dedicated to remembering faces (an important asset for an immortal) before he hummed. “well, no worries there. i don’t beleive we have ever met. the name’s dion elwell.”
that would certainly explain it. she was not always one to acknowledge a certain fame of others, unless they held said fame for a reason she admired. at the very least, she could do away with the nagging feeling of being lost with a face that had no name to it. ❝ ah. a critic, i believe ? i went through a bit of research, before moving here. i suppose i must have stumbled across your writing a few times. sinaldra weaver, the pleasure is mine. ❝

someone stumbling against her caused auburn to halt and turn, dark eyes flickering around as she took in the situation. someone had stumbled against her — it did not happen often. she was tall and she had been told that she cut quite the figure when she was out and about on new haven’s streets. and even if it were not for her height, her hair tended to alert people before they walked into her. so someone stumbling into her was unusual to say the least. ‘‘ no need to worry about me, but are you all right, miss? ’’ auburn inquired, fingers curling into her ponytail.
it did embarass her, but it was not a phenomenon she was unfamiliar with. often did she get absorbed in work to a degree that made food highly secondary, and only when her stomach nagged on and on did she usually relent. alas, she preferred to keep up appearances, and had no intention to seem strange so earily into her presence in a new city. ❝ yes, yes, quite-- i suppose i must have no had enough water, or somesuch. apologies, again. ❝
