"That it does. Sparring with Herd is definitely a solo activity. Which is not to say that I never spar with packmates."
Atlyss walks into Crossroads not really knowing what to expect. She knows that this is werewolf owned and operated but that could mean anything to anyone. She sits down to her first prepared meal in a week and orders politely trying to make small talk with an uncomfortable waiter before giving up and ordering a coffee, black with cream.
Carey’s in the middle of her meal - but there’s no ignoring the smell of unfamiliar Uratha in the room. Even if they’re not a threat, they’re still Something To Investigate.
And her burger will still be there when she gets back, anyway. So she sidles up to the booth this strange wolf is in, with a…well…wolfish smile.
“You’re new here, aren’t you?”

"I can't shift or use Gifts when I spar with Herd." She shrugs. "It can be kind of nice not to have to worry about that stuff, though."

"Ithaeur, actually. I just like to keep myself sharp. And learn new things, among the Herd. Sometimes its an exercise in restraint, more than anyone else."

“Here?” She gestures around the restaurant with a grin. “Eat. In town...I spend a lot of time at one of the gyms near where I live - their Jiu Jitsu program is pretty spectacular.”

“Blood Talons here tend to behave themselves, with regards to running people out of town.  It’s just...that kind of place. People come here looking to start over, start again...or even just to find themselves. It’s all pretty friendly, pretty accepting.” She shrugs.
“You mean the owner here? She might come find you anyway - that’s how I met her. I can give you my Alpha’s number, too, you can tell her I sent you.”

“I can get you in contact with our Alpha, if you want more information about it - strange Uratha comes in, we gotta be a little cautious. You know. There’s a few Bone Shadows around - one in my pack, actually. Who...” she chuckles, “actually runs this place.”

“Well. If you’re planning on staying long, you’ll want to introduce yourself to - there’s three Packs that have territory close to here, so all of them. There are a few lone wolves, so they’re not going to run you out of town or anything, but it’s always helpful to make yourself known. And who knows, maybe you’ll find a new Pack. That’s what I did.”

“Ah - I’m a nurse. This is a really wonderful town for exploration, though, I agree. Just big enough that you won’t get bored easily. Where were you, before this?” She leans against the booth, completely at ease.

The shift is surprising, it’s easy to see in Carey’s face, but she shakes Atlyss’s hand with a firm grip. She’s not trying Atlyss’s strength or anything like that, but it’s confident and strong.
“Carey. Great to meet you - I moved here a few months ago, just long enough to sniff out newcomers.” She laughs. “It sounds like you’re not just passing through, then?”

"No, that makes a lot of sense. I was coming from a place of familiarity, Uratha comradery. Which I shouldn't have done."
Sirona had texted her about Jair. Told her about the kid who wanted to meet her. Something to do with BJJ? Something to do with meeting up at the gym? Well that day has finally arrived. Jair finds the building without overmuch difficulty, and walks in wearing his usual fare- the camo jacket, the comfy old work boots, the dingy shirt... But instead of jeans, sweat pants. Baggy, ugly things, but easier to move in than denim. He knows roughly who he's looking for and scans the first room for faces
There’s a class in session, the room a sea of black and white and blue gis.
And one orange one, worn by a woman with short curly hair held back by a headband, currently holding a much larger man in a headlock. She’s straining, but has a wide smile on her face, and the partners around them are giving her plenty of space. The faint smell of Uratha permeates the place, below the normal smell of old sweat.

“The Low Honor the High, the High Respect the Low?” She’s grinning - there’s a healthy dose of self awareness in her tone.

She nods, taking the information in. "That sounds really cool - like, really community oriented, yeah? None of the bullshit talking down to newcomers just because they know less. I've had to leave a few gyms, 'cause of that."

She chuckles. "Unfortunately, going to Brazil to find a maestre isn't in my budget." She actually gets the pronunciation nearly right. "I'd rather not learn it at all than deal with the kind of thing you're talking about, you know?"

"I like her well enough, I just don't want her to get sick of me," Carey chuckles. "And I'm happy to ask her myself tomorrow at work."
"Yeah, I'm down to meet up." Astrid's text reply comes nearly instantly. "You down to meet at the tattoo parlor? I get off work at 5 oh, and I'd be happy to pay for green tea of the cafe down the street."
“Perfect, see you then!”
And she does, waltzing into the tattoo parlor at ten ‘til, wearing a drapey orange cardigan and a smile just as bright. She eyes the art on the walls and the other people in the shop while she waits, and bounces gently on her toes.

"One and a half?" She tilts her head - very doglike. "I'll probably talk to Sirona, too - we already see a lot of each other at the clinic, I wouldn't want to overstep professional bounds, you know?"
