was just sitting here and writing this essay, and ofc i’m listening to music at the same time…

while the genre of music i generally associate with mania would be classified as shoegaze, the song strawberry by andrew montana has always been the main song that i associate with him

his arc was meant to be that he escapes from the facility in which he was raised and ends up homing with a convicted murderer, who coaxed mania out of his mindless rule-following and the conditioning he was raised in

he basically learns to be human, to have emotions without being forced to shove them down, and puts all of his trust in someone he once imprisoned and nearly killed

1, 4, 10 Mackenzie….holds him…

1. What kind of person is your OC in a crisis? Are they calm and collected? Do they panic? Or are they chronically the cause?

IC: I’m good enough, so it don’t really matter.

OOC: always pretty level-headed during a crisis, it’s hard to place mackenzie in a situation that he can’t handle, no matter how stressful. he doesn’t express his panic if he is ever panicking. compared to 2k mack, who has a tendency to get overwhelmed really fast and is prone to outbursts of anger in a situation he can’t control.

4. Does your OC have a failed friendship or relationship they still think about? What happened? Is it an unresolved regret or is there a chance for reconciliation?

IC: There ain’t no one I can think of.

OOC: when he was still fairly young, he met a young woman shortly after going on the run from home. their relationship was brief, and he thought he may have wanted to settle down, but he realized he’d never be happy with a woman. out of frustration, he simply never saw her again. he regrets how it occurred, but not that he didn’t pursue her. modern mackenzie regrets settling down with his highschool sweetheart and causing so many issues for her. she doesn’t allow him to see his daughters, and at this rate, he doesn’t know if he ever will…

10. Is your OC sentimental or pragmatic? Do they keep mementos or only what they need to survive? Have they always been this way or did something happen to make them change?

IC: Ain’t got the kinda room or need to hang onto random bullshit I don’t need.

OOC: he likes to play as though he’s all tough, but there’s a few things that he’ll hold onto if he deems them special. it’s more so that he can’t afford to keep important things than it is that he doesn’t want them. one of the things he holds onto is a button from one of his mother’s dresses. insignificant to anyone else, yes, but completely priceless to him, and he’ll never admit it’s source. modern mackenzie frequently loses things, but he also holds onto a couple small things.

8. What was your OC's most embarrassing moment? Does it still bother them or are they able to shrug it off?

IC: Goodness…I’ll have to think. […] Probably when I was standing directly in front of a man and missed a shot I fired out of my pocket! Ah, I can laugh about it now.

OOC: León is a pretty poor shot, though he used to be a lot worse than he is now. he was on an outing with a few members of the Rochester gang, they stumbled upon some men trying to rob them, and naturally, Leó tried to charm them. he tried to shoot one of them amidst his monologue and completely missed, which confused the robbers enough for the members he was with to mow them down. didn’t save him from the embarrassment of speaking to his friends afterwards, but he’s over it now!

10. Is your OC sentimental or pragmatic? Do they keep mementos or only what they need to survive? Have they always been this way or did something happen to make them change?

IC: I keep whatever I’ve got space to hold onto! I’m particularly fond small, petite little things. Makes them a whole lot easier to keep.

OOC: he will keep most things that he’s given, but enjoys even the smaller things that people may consider to be insignificant. he also very much loves getting others gifts and will buy things for those he holds dearest whenever possible. notably, he always holds onto the ring that was gifted to him by his husband. there isn’t a day he doesn’t have it.

13. How important are romantic relationships to your OC? Do they prefer casual sex, short flings, or long term relationships? Do they want to get married or are they content with what they have? Or do they have no interest in romance whatsoever?

IC: My…I don’t think I could even imagine a world without my dear, Jeri. Even thinking about the past with anyone else feels horrible.

OOC: before meeting his now-husband, he was a lot more casual and into one night stands. now, he is bound to this relationship for life, and any damage to it would likely destroy him and his perception of love. Jericho caught León’s eye pretty much instantaneously, and he knew, then, they he just had to start courting the guy.

4. Does your OC have a failed friendship or relationship they still think about? What happened? Is it an unresolved regret or is there a chance for reconciliation?

IC: Nah. I’m not gonna waste my time thinkin’ about people that don’t fuckin’ matter.

OOC: he’s always more or less been in the habit of dropping people as soon as he’s done with them/he finds someone he thinks is more interesting. there is one relationship he had in the past that has impacted the way he views relationships as a whole— he thought it was going to be something permanent, so he was loyal, and then one day the guy up and left him without saying a word. ever since, he’s not interested in things that’ll be long term with the knowledge that nothing will ever be permanent.

8. What was your OC's most embarrassing moment? Does it still bother them or are they able to shrug it off?

IC: There isn’t nothin’!

OOC: mainly true. there isn’t much that Dante does that he could come to be embarrassed about, whether in the moment or after. the most realistic possibility would be making a mistake when he was in school, back before Rosario (his grandfather) started getting influence over him.

20. Has your OC ever done something terrible and lied about it? Did they run away or blame someone else for it? How long did they maintain the lie and did the truth ever come out?

IC: All. The. Time. Killin’, stealin’, or just anything really. Well, only when it’s gonna benefit me to lie. No reason to lie otherwise.

OOC: for the benefit of his family, Dante will lie about pretty much anything as long as he knows that he’s doing it for a reason. he isn’t a liar by nature about most things— even if things do seem like lies in the future, he probably meant them in the moment and then changed his mind somewhere along the way. he’ll also just tell lies for his own amusement but to see the reactions in other people, to see what lengths they’ll go to in order to get the truth out of him, or do what he’s instructed them to do.
