Okay okay okay I MIGHT be a little bit obsessed with Trolls 3, so I drew the human versions of the trolls in a college AU based off a fanfiction I found 😭😭

thinkin about crystal clay au again (as usual belongs to @warning-heckmouth OKAY LETS ROLL)

like...yknow how Floyd n Branch got a connection? theyre like THE brothers for each other? and we can assume the eldest got really connected so JD and Bruce are a pair

so i was thinkin who works with Clay, and while i love his dynamic with JD and their sorta bittersweet brotherly love, im givin it to Bruce because i just...i KNOW Bruce was the gentle brother in comparison to JD.

its like having a "fun dad" and a "working dad". John Dory was always pushing for rehearsals and practice, dragging Clay away from his books n such to do their shows. hes fun for everyone else but not for Clay i dont think

but with (Sp)Bruce I feel like they actually get along in their own "older brother/baby brother" way.

i can just see it in my head so clearly,,,,Bruce readin to Clay when they were younger, Clay helpin Bruce in the kitchen with baking n cookin when JD wasnt around, Clay liked structure and Bruce had that instead of JD's wild schedule of work that's fun for everyone but him (from how it seemed)

also dont think i forgot that pound we got in the movie that smooth handshake??? no way in hell that wasnt a constant in childhood like Clay looks at JD and says "John" Clay looks at Bruce and is immediately just "OMG THATS MY BIG BROTHER WHO I LOVE SO VERY VERY MUCH-sup bro" LIKE LISTEN-

It's only just occurred to me, but: in the Clay-kidnapped-instead-of-Floyd au (name pending additional workshopping), it's fairly likely that, when the Bros finally show up to rescue him, Clay would mistake Poppy for Viva because of their physical similarities and his own exhausted state. And since the group wouldn't have had a reason to go to Viva's golf course and actually meet Viva yet with Clay captured, it would be quite the confusing experience for Poppy

Clay's smart as hell, he basically forced himself to be a nerd post-band breakup so like...picture with me,,,Clay pitting Velvet and Veneer against each other,,,straining their relationship by just sewing those liiiiil seeds of doubt anytime they're alone with him,,,,or just bringing up "totally real" things they said to make em look like liars

after all. hes the fun one. the dumb silly fun one! Who's gonna think he's got the capacity to lie?

im just sayin Clay's gotta have a mean streak somewhere in that heart of his that "Hm. John" that MEANT SOMETHING-

I haven't been able to stop thinking about Clay getting stuck in his own head and thinking he's just hallucinating his brothers and Viva when they come to save him. I could see him even cowering away from them when he is finally freed from his prison, because he's so, so convinced that if he tries to touch one of them, his hand will pass through them like a ghost and he'll be thrown back into the reality of still being trapped and dying all alone in that bottle again.

SORRY I HAD TO POST THIS WITH SOMETHIN ALONGSIDE IT SO HERE HAVE BITTERSWEET-

“♫ Just let me take you to a~ ♫”

“♫ Better place~ ♫”

With one, final, harmonized note, the Diamond containers are filled with one final, bright light before they shatter, leaving each brother freed of their cages. Including the one trapped inside for months, who slowly makes his way to the floor.

Clay is transparent, white and cold, his body drained of talent as he hits the ground. Quickly, he’s surrounded by his brothers, panicked and frantic, and Viva, who holds his face with wide, teary eyes.

“Mr. Clay! I did it! I found your brothers, we can bring you home!” She cries, squeezing his cold cheeks before slipping her hands to one of his paws. “Please! Wake up!”

“Please, Clay…” Floyd pleads, attached to his left side next to Bruce, teary eyed and trying desperately not to let them spill. “I haven’t even gotten to hear you say hello…”

“You know you’re stronger then this, Clay, we all know you are.” Bruce mutters, a quiet anguish on his face.

“I-I built the bunker, Clay! Remember? The doodles?” Branch admits in desperation, reaching for his brother’s side with tears of his own barely held back. “There’s a reading corner, just for you. Plenty of books…”

John Dory has his spot next to Branch, taking his brother’s face in his hands, brows furrowed and mouth wobbly. “Clay…Clay, I’m so sorry. I forced you to be someone you weren’t for so long…” He whispers, gently running a thumb across his brother’s fuzzy cheek. “Please… You have to wake up. I need to make this right. You’re my little brother…I love you…”

And yet, all they’re met with…is silence.

Soul crushing, heart breaking-

“Mm…when’d you get sappy…John Dory?”

“CLAY?!”

“MR. CLAY!”

“You’re okay…! HE’S OKAY!”

As the brothers rush for their missing link, as Viva holds tight to Clay’s empty paw, as Poppy stands next to her boyfriend with tears of her own and a smile on her face, Clay blearily blinks away sleep and exhaustion as he stares up at the blurry faces of his brothers, his Queen…

A hiccup escapes him, before shaky arms cover his eyes. He can’t hear the joyous, slightly worried sounds of his name. Reassurance that they’re here, that his family is here again, that he wont be alone anymore.

If this is another dream, then please…

Please don’t wake him up ever again.

Finally out here making some Crystal Clay au content after being sick for two weeks. Just a little comic that came to mind. Struggling with it a bit since I’ve never made a comic before, lmao

Uhhh Okay, i got y'a guys. I'll try to make it!

Been thinking about the Crystal Clay au more--and kinda by extension the other aus in which JD or Bruce are the ones in the diamond instead (Crystal Dory au by @tea0w0stache, Crystal Bruce au by @throwawaycan, although none of what I'm about to say should be considered canon to those aus without their creators sayso, I'm just spitballing ideas).

The main conflict that causes Branch to walk out with Poppy and Tiny, which then ultimately results in the remaining three brothers being captured by Velvet and Veneer, is fueled by all three of the oldest brothers: JD's push for perfection sets off Clay, which sets off Bruce, which all in all escalates the argument to the point we see in the movie.

But what about in these aus, where you remove one of those three? Without JD, there isn't as much pressure for perfection. Without Clay or Bruce, there isn't one to spark the conflict and then the other to fan the flames. I'm not saying an argument wouldn't happen, I'm just saying I get the vibes that, without all three of them present, and also with the additional presence of Floyd as a mediator, the argument would be contained before the group decides to split.

If the group doesn't split (and Tiny is still driving Rhonda instead of JD and therefore doesn't park in the obvious 'reserved for Brozone' parking trap), then the other three brothers would never get captured.

Which would leave the one remaining brother who's already trapped, whether it's Clay or Bruce or JD, stuck being Velvet and Veneer's only source of talent for their big show, meaning there's a much higher chance they'd suck the last of the life force out of them sooner than they did for Floyd.

Floyd barely scraped by. What's going to happen if they're left with even less time to complete their rescue?

now i cant stop thinkin about them finding Clay and tryin to break him out and he just tells em to leave him cause "at least now someone takes me SERIOUSLY"

like with his brothers, his own family, he never felt taken seriously. he was the joke. but velvet and veneer...at least here his talent is something useful to em. not just a joke.

anyways idk if Clay would handle pure isolation very well compared to his brothers. Like everyone sorta doesnt handle it in their universes but i really do think Clay relied a lot on the community he had with the Putt Putt Trolls for a long time to remind himself hes not ALONE alone. he lost his brothers yes but he wasnt alone in his loneliness if that makes sense

but in the bottle all he has are his thoughts, and after years of living in paranoia of being eaten or found, be it by his potentially angry brothers or hungry burgens looking for their next meal, i just think he wouldnt handle it too well

his dreams are intense and vivid, as if hes free, but everytime he wakes up in the bottle again and it just GRATES his mind into dust that by the time Viva makes it back to him with his brothers...

hes too convinced hes just dreaming the perfect escape scenario and cant believe it. hell idk if he even believes his brothers get bottled until they're all situated in their silly lil holsters on V+V's concert outfits >3> then it sorta hits him like a train that oh shit everyone really IS here and this is all either gonna blow up in my face or the twins will rip each other apart and my brothers are gonna be caught in the middle-

either way Clay is NOT OKAY :D

Okay so get this. We had Floyd in diamond bottle, AU with JD and sometimes with Branch are quite popular. But i saw only one post with Clay in bottle and none will Bruce(I'll write about Bruce next time, today we talk about middle child).

AU for Clay would actually can be more interesting than you can imagine!

Because he lives with other trolls and Viva in the same place. So can you imagine that he probably sacrificed himself but did not tell Velvet and Veneer that he knows about other trolls near by to try save himself? That's would be a big hero move! But all we know middle kids problem: They're mostly invisible for whole family. So probably none of brothers would even knew that he get in troubles...but! Here's another big move - Viva!

Viva is terrible scared to leave village, besides she's a queen of this place. But knowing that Clay disappeared somewhere would definitely get her worried! She have to force herself to let go of her biggest fear. Because she lose her family once and don't want to lose important to her person once again! She would find Clay in the bottle and he had to tell her about that it's impossible to broke the diamond without family harmony.

And now Viva have to get all Clay's brothers together just to get him save.

Also she would definitely find Poppy and Branch on the royalty wedding! That would definitely could look funny 🤣

So please, don't underestimate power of Crystal Clay AU! We definitely need more fanarts of it! (I'll try make one too one day i think. We will talk about Crystal Bruce AU next time!)
