A/N: so um this didn’t exactly go as i thought it would but oh well. it has a little more plot than the rest of the series :)

chose his career bc he watched a movie when he was 6 and the main male lead was so admirable he promised himself to be just like him

was so proud of himself the fist time he handcuffed a culprit

kind of a workaholic

but at the same time v bright and outgoing

is friends with all his coworkers

always eats only half a bowl of jjajangmyun for lunch bc he’s so busy

results in detective park (jihoon) gaping at him as he leaves after receiving a clue about a prime suspect

runs into you while chasing a suspect

literally

you’re on the ground

next to your now broken laptop

crying not bc of the pain, but bc you had finally finished your research paper after staying up all week

and now it was probably gone

he motions for his partner to go on without him and helps you up

you take note of his apologetic expression, but the stress and lack of sleep gets to you and you just burst

“my laptop.. my research paper is saved onto it! if i fail this class, are you going to be responsible for me failing? are you going to pay for my tuition? are you going to buy me a new laptop?” you yell

“well, i’m sorry for running into you, but i was in the middle of chasing a kidnapper. it was my fault for not looking where i was going, but you weren’t very careful either. if you had kept your laptop safe in your bag, i could have caught him. if we lose him, will you take responsibility?” he snaps back

“are you.. are you blaming me right now?” you ask, appalled

at that moment, a call interrupts your conversation

sighing, daniel picks up his phone

after exchanging a few words, he holds out his phone to you

“save your number. call yourself if you want to make sure you have my number as well. i’ll contact you later to pay for any fees it costs to fix your laptop”

you do as he said and leave after picking up your laptop

without any thought, he looks at your contact information

and nearly laughs when he sees what name you saved yourself as

“the person you should be sorry at but is also sorry”

a week later, he realizes he completely forgot about the incident

he only remembered after seeing your profile on kakaotalk while scrolling through his contacts

you had automatically been synced onto his account, which means you had his profile as well

so he’s surprised you haven’t called or texted yet

curious, he clicks on your profile and looks through your previous profile pictures

not creepy at all

he chuckles when he sees that all of them are of you with a dog

until he comes across this one picture

the little girl next to you looks familiar

too familiar

he looks around the pile of papers on his desk until he finds a folder of a closed case

he flips through the pages and finds what he’s looking for

a picture of a little girl who went missing 2 years ago with no trace

with no leads, clues, or suspects, the case was closed after months of searching

it was his first failure in his career, so it always tugged at him

he brought the phone next to the picture, and compared the two

it was definitely the same girl

he falls into silence and guilt

after staring at the picture for a while, he opens kakaotalk again to message you

“so how about i treat you to lunch? we can discuss the laptop then”

this isn't wanna one related, but i feel like this isn't something to be ignored. shinee was the one who brought me back into kpop and helped me learn how to embrace my culture again. they changed my life and although i became a fan of other groups, shinee always had a special place in my heart. jonghyun was not only a talented musician, but an inspirational figure who spoke up about mental health in a country that finds the subject taboo.

its only been a month since i barely managed to pull myself together with my own problems. less than a week since my friend’s suicidal attempt. i learned of jonghyun’s passing as i was getting ready for school, and ended up having to go back home before first period even ended. this hit me in a way i can never put into words.

i've been in a slump since summer started. my physical and mental health declined, i struggled to get good grades in school, and had problems with friends. i was disappointed in myself. i cried looking at my grades/sat scores and when i felt isolated from my friends. i had a mental breakdown last week and my parents didn't understand why and blamed me instead. when i hit my lowest, i seriously considered going to the store and buying sleeping pills. then i came across lee hi’s “breathe” again. i felt like jonghyun, the one who wrote the song, was the only one who understood me. i’ve never met him, but he comforted me when i had no one to talk to.

so his passing really broke me. he wasn’t just a celebrity to me. he has impacted my life and helped me through hard times. i can never thank him enough for that.

until today, i never understood people when they resented the person who left them forever. i thought i’d be apologetic and mournful instead. now, as selfish as it is, i understand. i can’t help but feel all three of those emotions and more.

kim jonghyun, you deserved more than what this cruel world gave you. i’m so sorry you had to endure the pain. i’m sorry you thought this was the only way to end it. you were loved and you will be missed.

and to others dealing with depression, please please please know that you are not alone. if you need someone to talk to, feel free to leave me a message. i may be a stranger, but i’m willing to listen to what you have to say.

as for updates, i had originally planned to post something for christmas but that won’t be going through. i know i have a bunch of requests piled up from the summer, but i really can’t bring myself to write at the moment.

before i even saw the news, i woke up with this song in my head. i never really read the lyrics, but after reading the article, i looked it up and felt like it was what jonghyun was saying to me.

because lawyer yoon is known for his chattiness while prosecutor hwang is known for his chicness 

but like I said earlier, he's actually a softie 

the rookies were genuinely scared when they saw him laugh and even do a little butt dance

the world is monochrome until you make physical contact with your soulmate

which means you could easily pass by them and never notice

but after 20 years, you kinda gave up

until, you know, your friends took you to lotte world and excitedly pointed at colors you couldn’t see

you’re not salty at all

you spend the day trudging behind your soulmate-bound friends

apparently the cotton candy you’re eating is pink

you don’t know what pink looks like nor do you associate the color to a word or feeling

you roll your eyes at the forced connection and continue to melt the fluff in your mouth

you’re not a big fan of roller coasters, but you don’t hate it either

except at this moment because you, the only single one in your friend group, now have to ride it alone

also happens to be a regular at the bagel shop you work at

comes in every sunday morning to order a bagel with strawberry cream cheese and a cup of coffee

remembers your name from his previous 82489 visits

patrols around the high school on weekdays

scolds students for smoking before switching their cigarette for a lollipop

takes bullying v v seriously unlike some officers

always follows up with how the victim is doing even after the case closes

his easygoing personality takes a 180 degrees change when dealing with actual criminals

although there aren’t a lot of crimes in the area

but anyway

gets along with all his coworkers

the youngest in his unit, as well as the most energetic (pun intended)

brightens up the mood during night shifts when everyone just wants to go home and sleep

it’s not uncommon for him to be reprimanded for being too lenient

example: let off 5 people without a parking ticket because it was parents day and they were parents

in his defense the meter only went over a few minutes and they were late because they were out eating with their family

but can he say he’s a softie

you had just clocked in for your shift at the bagel shop when a robber came in and demanded you open the cash register for him

luckily, sungwoon was coming in for his morning bagel and coffee at that time

the attempted burglary was prevented without inflicting harm onto anyone

now sungwoon comes in on saturday mornings as well

and you can’t deny you like seeing him more often

Hello, I don't want to be rude I just want to read your opinion on this since I'm new here and this just constructive criticism, I'm in no way hating on you or anything ok? :) I've read one of the fanfics you've writen (which I really liked btw) until one point where it implies that you're a very short person. (1/?) ~~~TALL anon~~~

hello!! i really appreciate your insight on this matter and your kind way of opening my eyes to the issue. i realize i do tend to write with a short height in mind for the OC because i am quite short myself (i’ve been stuck at 160 cm for years now). i re-read my works and i think you are referring to my Cocktails Over Champagne fic when daniel rests his chin on the OC’s head. i wrote this part after watching him on happy together, where he mentioned he likes to call his girlfriend “kiddo” endearingly because females tend to be shorter than him (after all, 180 cm isn’t a height that is easily reached by females. although i now realize that there are girls taller than him). in my vision, this was a simple part that i added in hopes of making it a tiny bit more realistic. i didn’t realize it could upset others, and i apologize. i also apologize if this scenario was not what you were referring to and i missed another part.

i will keep this in mind as i keep writing, and i am open to more constructive criticism. later on, i may write works where a specific height is implied, but will make sure to write about both ends of the spectrum (and not forgetting the middle, of course). once again, i’m sorry for my thoughtlessness and i thank you for letting me know :)

Summary: it’s the start of your adult life, but you’re still a child in Daniel’s eyes

A/N: i can’t believe wanna one officially debuted today.. i’ve been gone for a while, but i’m back!!

Today was your 20th birthday. To celebrate your first year as an adult (legally), your friends threw you a party at a club. You felt a bit awkward in your new black dress with a variety of alcohol on the table in front of you, but it was kind of exhilarating.

“Uh, you know I'm not really a big fan of alcohol..” you timidly confessed to Seongwoo.

“Don't worry, we'll watch each other so no one gets wasted.” the male grinned.

Sure, you've always been curious about this kind of life, but you knew it wasn't suited for an introvert like you. It was somewhat exciting, but it was also overwhelming. Your boyfriend, Daniel, noticed you awkwardly twiddling your fingers and scooted closer to you.

“You know you don't have to drink if you don't want to, right? No one's going to think you're a party pooper. To be honest, a majority of us aren't fans of alcohol either. Especially Minhyun hyung.” Daniel chuckled.

Daniel was actually a good drinker and enjoyed alcohol. But he decided to stay sober tonight to keep an eye on you. Just to make sure nothing happens to you.

Your attention turned towards the shrieks of your friends. Jisung stood in the center with foam pouring out of his beer can. He then dramatically walked towards you and took a gulp.

“Hite! Extra cold~” he winked before drinking the rest of the can.

He earned himself the cheers and laughter of your group of friends. You couldn't help but giggle as well. In the seat next to you, Jaehwan dramatically shook his head.

“Have some class, hyung.” Jaehwan joked, making a point as he took a sip of wine.

“Hey, at least I'm not the one drinking apple juice in a club.” Jisung snickered as he nodded towards Minhyun.

“I came out to have a good time and I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now.” Minhyun scoffed.

Slowly, you held up the champagne glass and examined it. Daniel offered to pour you a drink and you held out the glass for him.

“Pink champagne for the birthday girl.” he grinned as he clinked his cup of water with your glass.

You grimaced at the taste. It smelled nice, but the alcohol burned your throat. Nevertheless, you held onto it and rested your head on your boyfriend's shoulder.

“Where Sungwoon oppa?” you asked.

“Trying to find himself a girlfriend out on the dance floor.” Chungha laughed as she forced Jaehwan out of his seat to sit next to you. “Speaking of dancing, why don't you come with me? I've waited 2 years to go clubbing with you.”

“Let's go, let's go!” Sejeong excitedly pulled you out of your seat.

“We'll return your princess safe and sound.” Chungha saluted to Daniel.

"Have fun, you three.” he laughed.

You quickly put down your glass before your friends dragged you off. The floor was almost vibrating because of the music blaring through the speakers. It was the perfect environment for Chungha; her confidence radiated sexiness whenever she danced.

As for you, you felt a bit timid at first but slowly found yourself let loose as you moved along with the beat. You let Sejeong take the lead and guide you. You then caught a glimpse of Sungwoon over at the bar and decided to walk over.

“Having fun, auntie?” you teased.

“Definitely!” he shouted over the music. “Here, have a drink.”

He handed you a blue cocktail and your eyes widened when you took a sip. It almost tasted like juice.

“Careful with that, though. You'll forget it's alcohol and easily get drunk.” he warned.

You nodded, taking another sip.

“Take it easy.” he laughed. “I don't want Daniel nagging at me for intoxicating you.”

After chatting for a few more minutes, he took off after claiming love at first sight. You only chuckled in response. Sungwoon would always be a hopeless romantic.. at the most unromantic places.

Your eyes scanned the room, observing the club. You winced when you saw someone pass out and get dragged away by their friends. Taking it as a warning, you put down your cocktail.

Suddenly, a man appeared at your side and shot you a smile.

“You’re here alone?” he asked.

“Oh, no. I came here with a bunch of my friends. It’s actually supposed to be my birthday party.” you replied.

“Really? Happy birthday.” he offered his hand. “My name’s Baekhyun.”

“(Y/N).” you shook his hand.

“Do you want anything? It'll be my treat, birthday girl.” he grinned.

“No, it's okay. I'd feel bad.” you kindly rejected.

“Come on, no need to be shy. Consider it a gift from my heart rather than my wallet.” he persisted.

“I believe she has already given you her answer.” a familiar voice said.

Daniel wrapped his arm around your waist, bringing you a little closer to him. You beamed at the sight of your boyfriend, completely oblivious to his irritation.

Baekhyun looked annoyed at him, taking the hint. He put his arms up, signalling his surrender, and walked away.

“Hey, that was kinda rude. You could’ve said it nicer.” you frowned as you pinched Daniel’s cheeks.

“Babe, he was trying to buy you a drink.” he said, still glaring towards Baekhyun’s direction.

“Oh?” you blinked in surprise. “But I already have a drink.”

Daniel sighed in response, but smiled when he saw your perplexed expression. He ruffled your hair and embraced you in a hug. You two stood there like that for a while, with his chin resting on your head.

“I know I call you a kiddo, but you really are a kid sometimes.” he laughed.

He pulled away to look into your eyes.

“It makes me bring out the protectiveness I never knew I had in me.” he said.

Slightly confused, you just wrapped your arms around him again.

“Lovebirds, get over here!” you heard Seongwoo yell. “The cake’s ready!”

Sunbae, Not Oppa

Summary: In which Seonho befriends the new trainee, but doesn’t realize she’s older than him.

“Hey, did you hear? We have another new kid.” Minhyuk said as he took a sip from his cup of coffee.

“Ah, (Y/N)? Of course. She’s my friend’s little sister.” Sungjae grinned.

“A new trainee joined?” Seonho asked eagerly.

Sungjae and Seonho had just come back from their photoshoot together, and were parting ways when they ran into Minhyuk, who was leaving for a schedule. They stood near the entrance of the company, chatting for a bit before the topic of the new trainee came up.

“She’s a quiet one though. Definitely talented, but can be really shy at first.” Sungjae commented. “But that’s her reversal charm. When she performs, her eyes completely change. It’s amazing.”

“Seonho, you must be happy. After being the youngest for nearly a year, you’re finally a sunbae.” Minhyuk chuckled.

The three wrapped up small talk after a few more minutes, and Seonho found his way back to the practice room. Rather than feeling tired after the photoshoot, he felt energized and happy. Thus, he had a little bounce in his steps as he slightly skipped towards the door.

He paused when his hand grasped the doorknob; music was playing from the inside. Curious, he peeked through the window. No one else was scheduled to be in the practice room at the moment.

His eyes lit up when he failed to recognize your back view.

She must be the new trainee!

Excited, he quickly opened the door to introduce himself. Unfortunately, the sudden intrusion startled you, causing you to trip over your shoelaces and stumble to the ground. You felt your face heat up in embarrassment as he profusely apologized.

“I’m so so sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you. I just heard we have a new trainee and when I saw you, I realized it was you so I got a little too excited and-” he blushed when his eyes met yours. “And I’m babbling, aren’t I?”

You recognized the tall male in front of you immediately. You had been keeping up with the second season of Produce 101, and he happened to be one of your favorite contestants. But now, here you stood as his hoobae. It was almost surreal.

You realized you still hadn’t said a word, never mind greet him. You quickly bowed down 90 degrees and said hello in a small voice.

“You’re (Y/N), right? I’m Seonho. Yoo Seonho. It’s really nice to meet you.” he smiled as he extended his hand out.

You shook his hand politely and offered a smile in return.

“Keep an eye on your shoelaces so accidents don’t happen. The first time I went around with untied laces, I was humiliated. I was about to run, but then Guanlin hyung was stepping on my laces at the time, so not only did I face plant to the floor, but my shoelaces also ripped off. In front of Hyuna sunbaenim.” he recalled.

“I’ll keep that in mind, sunbae.” you giggled.

He was ecstatic at the sudden change in status. After looking up to the other sunbaes, he was finally one himself. Feeling proud, he offered to take her on a tour of the company.

By the end of the tour, it was lunch time and you two ended up eating the designated salad given by the company. Sprawled out in the practice room, you listened attentively to his never ending stories. He talked a lot, but you liked it. It was cute how he offered you advice, emphasizing his seniority.

“Don’t worry. Whenever you need help, just come find this sunbae. I’m always here if you need me.” he said.

He then pondered on his choice of words.

“You know what, you can call me oppa.” he said with a pleased look on his face.

Before you could reply, one of the staffs came in and called for him. You bid each other goodbye and the door closed. You never got to tell him that you were pretty sure he wasn’t older.

A week passed since then. You diligently spent most of your time practicing, with Seonho stopping by every now and then. Then came the day where your practice schedule matched his. You were both assigned to the same room, since you guys were paired up for the monthly evaluation.

You had spent the entire week practicing “Crazy in Love”. It was the performance that landed you a spot as a trainee in Cube. Now, you had to choose a different song to perform with Seonho.

“I was thinking of doing “Toxic” by Britney Spears? Or maybe “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran?” you suggested as you scrolled through your playlist.

“I like “Toxic”. “Shape of You” reminds me of Taehyun hyung, and I don’t think I could ever even come close to his level of dancing.” he laughed. “Then we could slowly transition it to showcase our vocals as well.”

You hummed in agreement. The performance had been a tough one to figure out. Seonho had been assigned as a vocal. Although you haven’t been assigned a position yet, dancing was your forte.

You turned the song on and let your mind go blank. Slowly, the music took over and moved your body to the beat. Bits and pieces of choreography began to come out, leaving Seonho to stare in awe.

By the end of the song, you figured out a general feel of what you wanted the choreography to look like. Your expression stayed serious as you tested certain moves, checking your reflection along the way. You fixated your gaze on your feet as you tried to figure out how to add intricate footwork into the dance.

“Sunbae, does this move look okay?” you asked.

“It's amazing!” he exclaimed with a thumbs up.

“Are you sure?” you asked skeptically.

“Trust me, I'm your oppa.” he answered proudly. “And oppas are always right.”

You couldn't help but let out a giggle at his words. You wondered if this was the moment to burst his bubble.

“Sunbae, aren't you born in 2002?” you asked.

“Yup. I have an early birthday too.” he replied.

“... sunbae, I'm a 2001 liner.” you said.

He went silent for a while before letting out a loud “what?!”

“No way. You look like you're 2 years younger than me!” he gaped.

“Well, if it helps I have a late birthday?” you sheepishly grinned. “I'm only a few months older.”

“But the company is gonna make me call you noona!” he whined. “Aw man, this is Guanlin hyung part two.”

He then suddenly remembered all the times when he showed off about being older. And cringed so hard on the inside. His cheeks slowly tinted as he grew embarrassed.

“Uh, I'm still your sunbae though so um.. yeah.” he coughed, his hand reaching for his nape.

“Yes, sir.” you saluted jokingly.
