I saw this poll question from a Sr. Recruiter on LinkedIn asking other recruiters their opinions on the subject.

Half of the recruiters are a solid NO that a company description on their resume is unnecessary.

I often use company descriptions on my resume templates, but I keep them short. I focus on whether the company is a Consultant or Staffing firm. I also note their expertise, like IT Cloud or servicing midsize clients.

In summary, the focus should always be on making the data in your resume relevant. Having a brief company description on your resume helps achieve that goal. Just keep it under 40 words.
