"Well, yes. There is usually one of us to each Unicorn wood. This is his, I am simply passing through and desired a place to rest. He was kind enough to share his wood with me. I presume he is watching."
Her head swayed ever so slightly to and fro as she observed the colorful avian above her head. His plumage standing out so vividly against the gentle purples and greens of the grove where she laid.
"I have seen many of your species that speak in the tongue of men---though not as well as you. They remind me of butterflies, repeating what they hear. Though hardly ever song or poetry. I'm not sure when I last saw a human---we do not know time as mortals do. I do know the tongue of men changed since the last time a maiden tried to lure me from my wood with a honeyed voice and golden bridle."
She got to her hooves, shaking some weariness from her limbs.

"I do not mind helping you find your companions."
Iago was surprised that the horned creature spoke in such a regal voice. not what he expected and yet perfect for a unicorn. just as his voice was just what someone would expect a parrot that spoke the human's common tongue to sound like. he thought that he sounded nicer speaking in Agrabah's language.
" Same difference, Milady." Iago shrugged his shoulders. " But...I'm not lost...exactly, I just don't know my way around this part of the world just yet. " technically he was very lost and his attempts to memorize the maps of this area did not help him. it was just a bunch of trees and random settlements where the humans marked the land.

"Oh? So...there are more of yours around? Well, I think I'm the only talkin' parrot in the whole world... wasn't supposed to be one. Just kinda happened to get cursed to speak my thoughts but nobody really ever listens to me. " he paused, that was way too much honestly. Was this a unicorn thing? did they have the power to make others confess things like that?
" Well, then you're lucky. I gotta pretend to be a dumb bird around humans unless I wanna end up stuffed into a cage and sold on the black market...again. "

The young blonde hyena held her head low, ears laying back against her head...nothing. Shenzi had responded last time she was whooping but nothing this time. It made her feel so nervous despite knowing her former Queen said this is where they lived now.
Nyota didnt remember exactly what Shenzi's favorite males smelled like anymore but the trail she was following was obviously another hyena---and familiar. Though it wasnt Shenzi----so it had to be Banzai or Ed.
She hadn't specified /where/ in the backlands the trio was so she may find nothing and go home unsatisfied. Climbing up a small hill, she sat down and observed the surrounding area. There was no sign of other hyenas other than the scent markers she'd come across----if they were here they'd surely come to investigate her whooping? Right?
So the young matriarch supposed she just had to wait and see. She craved reconnecting with the clan she lost; and while the males werent ones she was particularly close to, she remembered them being around while she was growing up during Scar's reign.

Oh, hello little mouse." The unicorn greeted Johnathan with a curious cant of her head. "I do appreciate your concern, but i am alright. " She reassured him.
"I am simply exploring. I smelled some flowers, as I was going past and they are my favorite." She carefully lowered herself down to a laying position so she wasn't towering over the little creature.
"What are you doing here?"

The unicorn did not know days, years, or even centuries. Time was an irrelevant concept for an immortal creature like herself. A concept for men, and other mortal beings.
Though the tongue spoken by men had changed, and she no longer saw men sitting in wagons drawn by horses. She knew of farms, tended to by men, but no humans seemed to be awake or home at this one right now.
Delicate hooves didnt leave any evidence of her passing through in the soft soil. There had been a cat, when she approached, but it turn and ran back toward the house when it saw her. "How curious...cats do not usually run from me. " She mused to herself.

One deer-like ear twitched when she heard movement nearby her feet, dipping her head to take a closer look at the creature that had come out of the grass.

"I believe you stumbled upon me, not the other way around" The Unicorn replied. "So it would suffice to say you are the one who is lost."
She had been relaxing in a grove of lilac trees; her presence alone was enough to cause the flowers to bloom. Though she had never seen a parrot who could speak in the human tongue so well before. "Unicorns have existed on this planet since the beginning of time. Just because they no longer know us does not mean we are not here. Mans world is my world."
The bird seemed concerned for her wellbeing, and while unnecessary was endearing.

"This is a unicorns wood, they will not find me here unless I want to be found. I am not concerned with them." Though it was not her wood. It belonged to a male of her species, who was permitting her to rest in his territory.
"Even if they saw me, it is unlikely they would know me. You know my name, but many men do not. Not anymore." It wasnt a sad statement, simply one of fact. Many men looked at her and saw a beautiful mare, not a Unicorn.
@worldclassmenageriie :

Iago had wandered a bit too far from the carvan and Cassim. he could only hope that they were looking for him. in the meantime, he was certain that he was going to end up in a bad situation.
he froze when he felt the feathers on his back prickle. that usually meant there was a magical being near by. his semi-immortality had a few annoying side effects. Iago looked around nervously. when he saw a unicorn, he let out a relieved sigh. that he could work with. they were only dangerous if you got too close to the horn. or the hooves.

" H-Hey, there. " Iago tried in vain to come off as casual. " I think you're lost 'cause I'm not a maiden or the other thing. " he breathed out. that was a awkward lie but it came out of his beak without his permission. as most things did.
" S-so, What is a pretty unicorn doin' out here in the human world? That's pretty dangerous. My buddies are not the most savory bunch so you should probably start goin' in the other direction. "

"There are ways to give up immortality. This life isnt one suited for mortal creatures."

the face of a bird that knows deep down that he'll outlive all his animal friends because his parrot species lives to 30 years old. but also, that he knows that he is semi-immortal so he will actually outlive his human friends too. soon it will only be Genie and him left.

" Well, nothin' I can do about that outside of cursin' them with some magical crap-o-la that will probably make 'em hate my guts. So, might as well live it up with 'em while I gotta 'em. "

The Unicorn canted her head to the side, watching the little one try to push the log. After a moment of observation, she walked over quietly and pushed the log with her horn, rolling it over.
She shifted her attention back to the little one laying flat on the ground, nudging her nose against Molly's head.

Slender neck lowered, horn almost sparkling. Her head canted to one side as large, soft amaranthine eyes gazed at him and he stared back at her.
Was she wrong? Had her name been lost even to those like her? Men had forgotten, some of them, but not the dwarves. Surely not.
Head raised again when he gasped, mane fluttering about her face. An almost amused expression passing over her face. Ears flicking and facing forward with intrigue.
Parched? No, she was not overly thirsty---but she wouldn't object to water.
Without a sound, the Unicorn followed him carefully through the garden. Her hooves leaving no prints even in the freshly disturbed soil of the turnip bed. When he held out the bowl, the beautiful creature of legend bowed her head and drank. Careful of her horn, so it would not touch his shoulder.
When she was finished, she raised her head again. Those eyes that would reflect wood and wild beasts if one gazed into them too long, considering him and what he offered.

"I do not eat such things made with ingredients of men---but I do enjoy strawberries as they are." She spoke in a low, but melodious voice. "So you know me? I know you, dwarf. Do you still know my name after all?"
The season's gifts are upon them and that means leaving the border of the garden for the forest friends. He owes them much, they all do. They're not ordinary deer and squirrels. They're a bit like sentinels of the forest and they do a particularly wonderful job of keeping an eye on the princess. Just in case. Old habits, as they say. One can never be too careful. The elder dwarf had been hunched over, plucking a few radishes out of the soil and leaving a few behind. He stiffened. That wasn't the sound of the doe in the grass or her fawn. That certainly wasn't the buck; he was a little more purposeful in his strides. Whoever this was hadn't been to their cottage before... A horse? No... Though for a moment he could have sworn it was the prince's horse for a brief, fleeting moment. He was getting too old and he was forgetting that there were those who were special that sometimes passed through the woodlands. Was it disbelief or maybe his prescription of glasses was getting a little too weak for those aging eyes? He pulled his glasses off at the thought and gave them a quick rub with his tunic before setting them back on his nose and examining the newcomer. Far too graceful to be from an ordinary human's stable... There was a small gasp as the radishes fell from Doc's pouch, illustrating his surprise as his eyes remained locked on the unicorn. "How did..." How did you get here? How have you survived? Where have you been hiding? Too many questions. "...Y'must be parched!" For once, Doc could say what was exactly on his mind. He fumbled over his feet while turning towards the washtub. Taking a bowl that had been left outside due to their haphazard way of storing items, he began pumping the water into the bowl. He held it out. He stared at the water for a moment, then back at the unicorn with his heart feeling like it was going to launch out of his chest. "Gosh... I was tol' stories when I was a beardlin' but I ain't ev'r thought I'd heat- erm, uh, meet ya. Mighty honor. Leas' I can do is food an' drink. If y'like strawberries, I got 'em! Erm...got strawberry pie, too. If y'fancy!"

The Last Unicorn (1982) starters.
❛ I dislike the feel of these woods. ❜
❛ Unicorns? I thought they only existed in fairytales. ❜
❛ This is a forest like any other. Isn’t it ? ❜
❛ Let’s turn around. Hunt somewhere else. ❜
❛ This is no world for you. ❜
❛ Good luck to you, for you are the last. ❜
❛ What do men know ? ❜
❛ We are as old as the sky, old as the moon. ❜
❛ We can be hunted, we can be trapped, we can even be killed but we do not vanish ! ❜
❛ Have you traveled very far ? ❜
❛ Be a little respectful, do you know who I am ? ❜
❛ Your name is a golden bell, hung in my heart. ❜
❛ I would break my body to pieces to call you once by your name. ❜
❛ In all your wanderings, have you seen others like me ? ❜
❛ Have you seen the others? Where have they gone? Tell me which way I must go to find them. ❜
❛ No, no, listen ! Don’t listen to me, listen ! ❜
❛ You can find the others if you are brave. ❜
❛ What if they’re waiting for me ? In need of my help ? ❜
❛ Well hello there little one ! ❜
❛ And just who might you belong to ? a pretty little thing like you ? ❜
❛ In my heart I carry such a heavy load. ❜
❛ And here I thought I’d seen the last of them ! ❜
❛ I know you. If I were blind I would know what you are. ❜
❛ You wouldn’t have heard of me. ❜
❛ It’s not much of a job for a real magician, but I’ve had worse. ❜
❛ You’re mine. If you kill me, you’re still mine. ❜
❛ Your death sits in that cage and she hears you. ❜
❛ She’ll kill me one day or another, but she will remember forever that I caught her, that I held her prisoner. So there’s my immortality. ❜
❛ You were out on the road hunting for your own death ! ❜
❛ He’ll not have you ! You belong to me. ❜
❛ We are two sides of the same magic. ❜
❛ You are safer here. You should thank me for protecting you. ❜
❛ There has never been a spell on me before. ❜
❛ It’s a very rare person who is taken for what he truly is. ❜
❛ Will you help me ? ❜
❛ You’re my last chance. ❜
❛ Can you truly set me free ? ❜
❛ I asked him a riddle and it always takes that lout all night to solve riddles. ❜
❛ the spell was wrong but there was true magic in it ! try again. ❜
❛ My dear you deserve the services of a great wizard but I’m afraid you’ll have to be glad of the aide of a second rate pickpocket. ❜
❛ Okay, (name), I give up. Why is a raven like a writing desk ? ❜
❛ She’ll kill you if you set her free ! ❜
❛ Don’t look back, and don’t run. ❜
❛ You must never run from anything immortal, it attracts their attention. ❜
❛ She chose her death long ago. It was the fate she wanted. ❜
❛ You have no regrets as I do ? ❜
❛ I’ve never seen anyone like you. Not while I was awake, anyway. ❜
❛ I’m going where they are, to learn whatever they know. ❜
❛ Take me with you ! for luck, for laughs, for the unknown. ❜
❛ You could never have granted my true wish. ❜
❛ I cannot turn you into something you are not. ❜
❛ Hide yourself ! We’ll find each other later. ❜
❛ Mind your heads now, it’s raining ninnies ! ❜
❛ Put me down you fool ! ❜
❛ I don’t like the look of him. ❜
❛ That’s only (name)’s way, but she has a good heart. ❜
❛ This is not happening. ❜
❛ We’ll both be gentlemen of leisure in a months time. ❜
❛ Oh, I love you. ❜
❛ She shall never have you ! ❜
❛ We will perish together. ❜
❛ Did you see me ? Were you watching ? ❜
❛ Did you see what I made ? ❜
❛ It’s gone now, but I had it ! ❜
❛ Where have you been ? Where have you been ! ? ❜
❛ Where were you when I was new ? ❜
❛ How dare you come to me now when I am this ! ❜
❛ It’s alright, I forgive you. ❜
❛ You can’t come with us ! we’re on a quest ! ❜
❛ Well, you’re going the wrong way. ❜
❛ You have all the power you need if you dare to look for it. ❜
❛ What have you done ! ? ❜
❛ The power will come to me whenever I need it, and one day! One day it will come to me when I call ! ❜
❛ You are an idiot ! ❜
❛ Don’t ! Don’t you hurt yourself ! ❜
❛ I can feel this body dying all around me ! ❜
❛ You are losing my interest, and that is very dangerous. ❜
❛ I will keep nothing near me that does not make me happy. ❜
❛ How would you know ? ❜
❛ Well, just look at you ! ❜
❛ Come on, I’ll write you a reference. ❜
❛ You have let your doom in by the front door ! ❜
❛ What are you looking at ? ❜
❛ What is the matter with your eyes ? ❜
❛ You may come and go as you please. ❜
❛ My secrets guard themselves, may yours do the same. ❜
❛ Please, let me help you. What can I do for you ? ❜
❛ And then she looked at me and I was sorry I had killed the thing. ❜
❛ For her sake I’ve become a hero but my great deeds mean nothing to her ! ❜
❛ I wish to be whatever she has most need of. ❜
❛ You are cruel to him. ❜
❛ He only wishes you to think of him. ❜
❛ Who am I ? Why am I here ? ❜
❛ I knew a moment ago, but I have forgotten. ❜
❛ I was innocent and wise and full of pain. ❜
❛ Now that I’m a woman, everything has changed. ❜
❛ Why won’t you help me ? Why must you always speak in riddles ? ❜
❛ I would tell you what you want to know if I could. ❜
❛ I am always dreaming, even when I am awake. It is never finished. ❜
❛ I would court you with more grace if I knew how. ❜
❛ Drown out my dreams. Keep me from remembering whatever wants me to remember it. ❜
❛ Words are always getting in my way. ❜
❛ That’s all I have to tell you. That’s all I’ve got to say. ❜
❛ I’m not a man of poetry. Music isn’t one with me. ❜
❛ As if I didn’t have enough troubles. ❜
❛ Well of course you’re of noble birth, anyone could see that. ❜
❛ Love is slowing you down, my lady. ❜
❛ It was pleasant enough at first, but it died quickly. ❜
❛ There is nothing of yours that I desire. ❜
❛ There is no movement of yours that has not betrayed you. ❜
❛ I like to watch them. They fill me with joy. ❜
❛ The first time I felt it, I thought I was going to die. ❜
❛ Do you dare still pretend to be human ? ❜
❛ It makes no difference. The end will be the same. I can wait. ❜
❛ Shut up you pretentious kneecap ! ❜
❛ How would you like a punch in the eye ? ❜
❛ It’s so nice to have someone to play with. ❜
❛ Try me tomorrow. Maybe I’ll tell you tomorrow. ❜
❛ Give it to me if you don’t want it but don’t throw it away ! ❜
❛ Give me the wine ! ❜
❛ You would have gone without me ? ❜
❛ No name you could give her would surprise or frighten me. ❜
❛ I love whom I love. ❜
❛ I will go no further. ❜
❛ Everything dies. I want to die when you die. ❜
❛ Yes, that is my wish. ❜
❛ I am a hero, and heroes know that things must happen when it is time for them to happen. ❜
❛ A quest may not simply be abandoned. ❜
❛ A happy ending cannot come in the middle of the story. ❜
❛ What if there isn’t a happy ending at all ? ❜
❛ There are no happy endings, because nothing ends. ❜
❛ Do something ! You have the power ! I will kill you if you don’t do something ! ❜
❛ That’s what heroes are for. ❜
❛ I’ve never had any friends before. ❜
❛ Men don’t always know when they’re happy. ❜
❛ I’m sorry. I have done you evil and I cannot undo it. ❜
❛ No sorrow will live in me as long as that joy. ❜

@magikborn

Like a phantom, the unicorn followed the young king on his horse in the shadows of the forest. The wild protects its own....and she stepped through shadows as though they themselves made a path specifically for her.

She was not frightened....though she was wary. There was certain aura. A heaviness she could feel around those who had slain one of her kin. He was not after her though, they never sent men. If she were the one he was seeking it would have been a maiden with a ringing voice, and a heart like the spring of her and her brother's wood.
She walked ahead of Arthur's horse. Standing among the trees at the side of the path, shrouded in shadow, to watch.
Horses always knew her--and they were frightened of her. The Unicorn watched as the king's horse spooked, catching her scent. It balked in the path of going ahead, toward the Unicorn.

"Hello" She replied, walking forward carefully. "Do you know me?" The Unicorn asked, her voice gentle and melodious but clear. Where she lingered in her slow approach, flowers began to bloom. Clovers, primrose and violets that usually held the first breaths of spring.
If he didn't know her, didn't believe, he wouldn't hear her.
Would see nothing before him but a beautiful mare, or doe.
He seemed to know her though, she believed he knew her name. Knew her as she knew his magic.
"I could feel you, your magic in this forest. It is like me, though I did not expect to find it within man."
Merlin was in the woods sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed. He was just listening and feeling the magic around him. It was one of the few places he could just be without anyone's judgmental eyes. So many events happened. Arthur jailed his father and assumed the throne. All the things he feared had happened had. Pendragon seemed fine. Seemed like he didn't regret it at all. He even made magic legal once his father got sick and died. So he was free. Arthur knew about his magic. He told him. Still, he didn't feel completely at peace with it.
Feeling eyes on him and a source of magic nearby, he opened his eyes and saw the unicorn staring at him. Sitting there, his breath caught in his throat. "Hello..." Foolish to think it could speak back.
