3 Most Underrated Parts and Their Uses
Tumblr media
If you work in an industrial setting, you know that heavy machinery gets all the attention and glory. Of course, the big machines are responsible for the bulk of the work that gets done, but the little parts perform some pretty important tasks, too. In fact, there are many parts that are completely underrated and don’t get the recognition they deserve. This is certainly true of the gear tooth sensor, for example, and several other tools, too. Read on to learn more about some of the important yet overlooked machinery parts.
Perhaps the most important part in of any machine is its gears. The teeth on this part allow it to latch to other gears, but because they are often hidden from sight, you may not think of them often. It is essential that they be properly maintained, though, and neglect can cause a host of problems for the entire machine they are part of. Lubrication and adjustment keep them running smoothly.
Adjacent to the gears, you will find a gear tooth sensor. This little piece of machinery performs a job far bigger than its size would indicate. Though it can be used in a variety of functions, it is typically employed to track the speed, position and movement of the gears and signal and alert if the data indicates an issue is present. Many accident have been prevented by this piece of machinery.
Much like a gear tooth sensor, a magnetic switch is small but mighty. It is used to detect the magnetic field present within a machine and produce digital output detailing the collected data. It can be applied to either linear or rotational fields, and its function prevents malfunction that could result from demagnetization. These parts are all important in the greater function of machinery. If you would like more information on these products, you can find them at Sensor Solutions, www.sensorso.com.

One of the most impressive functions is the ability of the sensitive hall speed sensors to detect direction gear teeth as small as a tenth of an inch wide and a tenth of an inch deep with impressive accuracy. The sensors are also capable of detecting the direction of a ferrous target without applying any drag on the target wheel. These sensors can be equipped with an internal magnet that can be used in several applications where magnetic field fluctuations must be detected. The Hall-effect gear tooth sensor can also be used to measure a ferromagnetic targets absence or presence.
The many capabilities and functions of this type of sensor make it impressive and capable of working a wide variety of systems. When engineers need sensitive measurements with fine gears, they often rely on the safe, customizable abilities of gear tooth sensors. Whether you need to sense the speed in a fast-moving vehicle, create an effective ABS brake system, develop fully-functional camshaft sensors or build high-quality wheel speed sensors. There have also been applications found in various transmission and flow metering functions in vehicles, making this tiny sensor one of the most important pieces of machinery in a variety of systems.

Track Your Machinery’s Speed and Direction With a Sensor
Tumblr media
Machinery drives industry in nearly every field, and that machinery relies on properly working parts in order to maintain functionality. Because these tools are such an important resource for many businesses, constant care must be taken to ensure they are kept in good working order. One of the best ways to care for your machinery is to install sensors that record their functions and detect any potential issues. Preventing a problem before it happens is the best way to save time, money and resources. A speed and direction sensor can help you avoid mechanical issues before they get worse and interrupt your production workflow.
A speed and direction sensor can have several functions in an environment. Its primary use is to detect the magnetic field of its surroundings as well as the speed and direction of the ferrous metal or magnetic component of a machine. Though this part is in motion, the sensor itself need not move. It can detect the position of its target without moving. This versatility makes it the perfect choice for keeping track of a machine’s functionality and movement. It also means that it is easy to position and mount in the correct place.
The quality of the speed and direction sensor you select is very important. Sensors made with cheaper materials are less accurate and they will not last as long, which will be more expensive in the long run. Sensors from Sensor Solutions, on the other hand, are all made with top quality materials and unparalleled attention to detail. No matter what type of sensor you are in need of, you will be able to find it. A wide selection of units and mounting applications are available to ensure that you find exactly what you are looking for. You can trust Sensor Solutions the next time you are shopping for sensors and sensor accessories.

Various Speed Sensors Are Available for Different Applications
Depending on your target, there are different kinds of speed sensors available for your use. If your target is for rotational speed, you may want to choose between a hall switch and a potted magnet shaft collar. Or, with widely-spaced targets, a Ferrous Target Tracker Sensor may be the preferred method. Another choice may be to use a gear tooth sensor.
If you are looking for linear speed, the Ferrous Target Tracker Sensor may again be your choice; or if you do not have a specific target, you could use an Either Pole Hall Switch or varying lengths of a multi-pole magnet strip tape.
When a sensor needs to be replaced, it is possible to search by part number or manufacturer to find the correct tool. For new speed sensor options, you may want to look into what sensors would be best for different applications. If one is not available for your particular need, sensors can also be designed and and developed around your target.

How a Speed and Direction Sensor Works
A Hall effect sensor is a transducer that varies its output voltage when its magnetic field is disrupted. This device, which is available from Sensor Solutions, is used for a variety of applications. In addition to being a speed and direction sensor, the Hall effect sensor is useful for proximity switching and current sensing applications.
Tumblr media
When a beam of charged particles is passed through a magnetic field, forces deflect the particles from their straight-line path. This charge separation continues until the particles from the electric field are balanced with the particles from the magnetic field. If the charge is constant, then the speed and direction sensor will be able to record an accurate measurement of the disruption.
The way a speed sensor works is that ferrous metal, such as iron or steel, disrupts the device’s electrical current. This disruption is then transferred along wires and displayed as data on a speed gauge. As the gear on a piece of machinery spins, each of its teeth is detected by the sensor’s magnet. Contact with these teeth disrupts the sensor’s current and causes pulses to be sent out. The faster the gear spins, the faster the pulses are sent out and measured by the speed gauge. In addition to heavy machinery, a speed and direction sensor can be used on vehicles, brake systems, and transmissions.
There are numerous advantages associated with using a Hall effect sensor. As it is an electronic switch, the sensor will be less expensive and far more reliable than a mechanical switch. Furthermore, the sensor will not be affected by contact bounce or be harmed by environmental contaminants.
Speed sensors are just one of the many types of Hall effect sensors available to customers. By measuring the disruption in a magnetic field, these devices can be used for a wide range of applications. They help foster technological innovation by providing valuable information to the people who work in laboratories and various industries.
