I see the word "inaccurate" used a lot when comparing Epic to the Odyssey, and I don't think that's the word we should be using.

"Inaccurate" implies that Epic was aiming to copy the Odyssey exactly and missed the mark, or made mistakes, or misunderstood the source material, but what actually happened is that deliberate changes were made. Changes that were made for this version, because it made sense for this version, because there was potential for a great story with alternate themes, motives, etc.

That's just...what adaptations do. They change things to better tell their version of the story, and they should just be referred to as changes. Neutral. Especially if they're being adapted into a different medium, like from an epic poem into a modern musical.

And honestly I wholeheartedly blame Disney for confusing what adaptations are supposed to be and supposed to be doing but anyway

THE RAIN STOPPED AGAIN-

Me, standing with my coworker as we prepare to take out our garbages for the night:

Suddenly hears an absolute downpour start on the metal roof above our maintenance room.

Me: oh, come on Zeus!

Coworker: hey, uh, wonder if zeus would like half a bottle of sprite

me: hm. You could try

Rain suddenly completely stops. Like. Downpour to nothing in seconds.

Me: oh. huh. guess he wants some sprite

we’re getting ready to leave and it’s raining again and I just hear “Zeus, I’ll get you two cherry sprites if you stop again!”

Poseidon’s entire altar just fell onto my floor. I have no idea how other than perhaps it was one of my cats. But the weird thing is- if it was one of my cats- only his altar was knocked over and everyone’s altars are very close together. Only his stuff was knocked down and none of his altar was left on the shelf. The candle, the offering plate, and all of the loose stuff sitting around it- all of it fell. Nothing on any other altar was disturbed either and his is in the middle of the dresser.
