“i hate it here” is peak escapism and hearing her talk about how she lives in a garden no one else has access to in her mind (unlike the rest of her life) for most of the year is sooooo. made up scenarios and imagining living in the 1800s… it’s giving the lakes except she’s alone and she can’t actually leave. so much of the album is about feeling stuck and this one is about feeling stuck in herself.

personally, there's a couple of characters that come to mind, so let me just explain my thoughts real quick:

nadine franklin (the edge of seventeen). she's the one that first comes to my head. her stubborn nature, her awkwardness in front of others, how she makes the dumbest decisions ever, says shit out of context, and then... feels like theres something wrong with everything about her also she just looks like me physically, so there's that.

neil perry (dead poets society). just the way in which he has a shitty father, feels like he has to live up to everyone's expectations, but he's determined, he's passionate, and he loves his friends with all of his heart! idk i feel like he's just... me and i am him, if that makes any sense.

conrad fisher (tsitp). his anxiety, his tendencies to push people away which he cares about, his lack of communication but the way in which he loves deeply! he puts others before him when it matters.

violet harmon (ahs). okay, i think it's just her stubbornness, her wanting of love and her outgoing nature. she's not afraid to stand up for what she believes in, and shes... depressed. so thats fun.

anakin skywalker (star wars). okay, this one was kind of expected. just the way in which he loves deeply, he cares deeply, he feels his emotions way more than others - which leads him to horrible actions and decisions. and upon losing it all, he breaks, he snaps, and the thing is... the dark things he feels, i feel too. i like, see a part of myself in anakin, and not the whole mass murderer scary vader part of him, but the other parts.

im not saying that all of these aspects of these characters are just like me, but i see myself in these guys!
