the thing about ophelia that you all need to understand immediately is that like. yes. she's a woman on a stage who goes mad because she's controlled by the men in her life. but she's also a woman whose madness is taken 100% seriously. she is a girl who goes crazy, and as the audience to her plight, you aren't supposed to feel anything but understanding for why because it's so clear and it's portrayed as valid. she is a woman whose mental illness as a result of having no personal autonomy is validated by the narrative
