my gf said something sooo insane about helly the other day and i cannot stop thinking about it. she was like. helena and helly’s relationship is almost maternal. the way helena created helly as an extension of herself, to serve her interests, to try and impress her own family. she scolds helly, talks down to her like a child. “i understand you’re unhappy with the life you’ve been given” “i am a person, you are not”. the way she envies and resents helly’s freedom. the way she feels entitled to helly’s life and is now living vicariously through her in the most literal sense. what if you created life and now they’re experiencing the things you’ve always wanted for yourself. what if you created life and they were flawed and loud and demanding and they were loved more than you’ve ever been. and you hated them for it. the mother/daughterisms are insane my girlfriend is insane

Lamb reviews film: The Wolf of Wall Street
rating: 2/5 ★
Tumblr media
"I want you to deal with your problems by becoming rich"
For the first hour and a half of this film I was hooked. The rise of Jordan Belfort, this money-hungry stock broker who had decided to set up his own stock broker company had captured my full attention. For the second half of this film I was praying that it would be over soon.
I'll start with things I did enjoy about The Wolf of Wall Street. I found DiCaprio's acting to be fantastic in some scenes. He really mastered the art of playing the most insufferable guy of all time. I especially liked the scene where he's talking on the phone at that new company whilst everyone is watching him in awe as he gets someone to invest 4 grand in penny stocks (to be fair even I was impressed).I also enjoyed Margot Robbie's performance (I've only seen her in Barbie so it was cool to see her play a very tonally different character).
Now onto what I didn't like...
There are only so many scenes of DiCaprio doing drugs and having sex that I can watch before I become incredibly bored and fed up of the constant objectification of women. Even if this is the reality of what it's like to work at one of these Wall Street firms it just isn't very enjoyable to watch. Why waste time making a film portraying rich white men being annoying when there are about a million other more interesting and important stories to explore.
I was also disappointed in the fact that I came away from The Wolf of Wall Street with very little understanding of how Wall Street actually works. You would think that a 3 hour film called "The Wolf of Wall Street" would enlighten me on the world of stock brokers but every time Belfort started to explain what was actually happening at Stratton Oakmont he would stop halfway though and go "nah you don't want to hear this". Like???
Also it was just sooo long. It's rare that a film actually needs to be 3 hours and The Wolf of Wall Street was one of those films that did not need to be this length. Perhaps if there were less scenes showing Belfort's debauchery they could've shaved an hour off the runtime and made watching it an overall much more pleasant experience.
Basically if you enjoy watching grown men throw tantrums and shout and each other, this is the movie for you!!

1:2 (Amuse-Bouche)
"A boat engine is a machine, a predictable problem, easy to solve. You fail, there's a paddle. Where was your paddle with Hobbs?"
"You're supposed to be my paddle"
"I am"
The notion of Hannibal keeping Will afloat as a "paddle" is so ironic seeing as he practically "drowns" Will via encephalitis later on in season 1. That man is keeping nobody afloat.
Then again you could also interpret a "paddle" as something that steers which is an incredibly apt description of Hannibal.

Lamb talks beach walks
Sometimes all you really need is to walk on a beach in the middle of February in the freezing cold.
I've been feeling really restless this week (I have way too much free time at the moment) and this was honestly the best thing I could've done for myself. I love walking at the moment and I often forget that I live near the sea so it felt like such a treat.
Saw some lovely seagull fellas, two dead fish (one was in perfect condition it was quite cool actually), three goats and a lot of crazy waves today.
Tumblr media
Also top tip to any fellow walking enjoyers: I know how tempting it is to go on a "hot girl walk" blasting your "hot girl tunes" in your noise cancelling headphones but if you'll hear me out for a second... sometimes you need to let your ears breathe. I've been going headphoneless for almost all my walks for a few months now and I've felt so much more refreshed afterwards. There's something nice about just being able to hear birds and trees and the wind (which seems obvious but for a while I didn't want to walk unless I had Chappell Roan blasting in my ears (still love Chappell btw I just listen to her whilst I work instead).
Anyways yeah basically if you're bored go for a walk on a beach (or just go for a regular one if you don't live near a beach)

Just... The way Milchick is reprimanded for his vocabulary in a cult full of people who all use an overly verbose vocabulary and revere an idol who also uses the same overly verbose way of speaking in their revered texts and in theory it should be something that makes him fit into Lumon's culture, but now he has to "fix" a problem that isn't a problem for anyone else because what they're really saying is not "you use too many words" but "this way of speaking is not for you, you will never be one of us."

Lamb talks Severance: S2 E6
Tumblr media
Another week another banger episode of Severance. Every week I get more and more invested in this show, there are just sooo many mysteries to unpack and theories to theorise (lmao). So here are some of my thoughts on episode 6 (spoiler warning of course).
I personally really enjoyed the way the Mark S/Helly R conflict was resolved. The whole bit about Helly wanting to make her own memories with Mark S was (in my opinion) the perfect way to overcome the awkwardness of the ORTBO situation. The hallway kiss was also so sweet (Mark S is so smooth, no wonder he managed to pull two gorgeous women).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Dylan G scenario is also so intriguing to me as it does raise the question "is what Gretchen doing considered cheating?". Gretchen's behaviour (lying about not being able to visit his innie) seems to suggest that she views it as being unfaithful to his outie. I'm really excited to see where this subplot goes (especially since Gretchen seems to prefer his innie).
Tumblr media
Milchick is currently one of my favourite severance characters so I was super happy to see yet another stunning performance from Tramell Tillman (I need him to be cast in every show ever going forward). The scene where he's stood in front of the mirror repeating "grow up" over and over again was so sinister. I really hope that we get an episode explaining how he became an employee of Lumon (I'm beginning to think that he was once in a similar position to Ms Huang as an young intern). I'm also praying for a Milchick rebellion arc.
Tumblr media
Burt's dinner was kinda crazy and definitely revealed that there is so much that we don't yet know (like what do you mean he's been severed for 20 years..). Him being severed due to religion was also incredibly unexpected. The concept of an innie going to heaven whilst the outie goes to hell is crazy. I've seen theories going around that Burt is a Lumon spy which wouldn't surprise me but I personally felt Fields was a much dodgier character. If I'm remembering correctly, he just happened to take Burt to a church the day it was delivering a sermon on severance (perhaps he pushed him towards the procedure). And he was just generally off-putting the whole dinner. For Irving's sake I hope Burt isn't a spy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ending to episode 6 was also insane. Obviously Mark isn't dead but him collapsing was quite dramatic. It's going to be so interesting to see if he's fully reintegrated once he's awake (like what is he going to think of the whole Helly R and Mark S situation? Is he going to try get close to Helena, knowing that she's sort of obsessed with him, to get information about Gemma? Will he act any differently or just like his outie with innie memories?) Episode 7 is definitely going to define how the rest of the series will go.

Something I noticed during my Hannibal rewatch of 1:1 (Apéritif)
I literally can't find a clear image of this anywhere but at 32:36 there's a shot of Elise Nichols in bed and the bedframe behind her sort of resembles antlers (a reference to GJH perhaps)
Am I being delusional.. possibly. But it's a cool detail if it was intentional.

Lamb Reviews Film: 1917
rating: 4.5/5 ★
Tumblr media
"There is only one way this war ends. Last man standing."
Whenever I sit down to watch a war film I always spend the first few minutes thinking "why did I choose to watch this, I'm not interested in war" and every time I'm proven wrong.
"1917" directed by Sam Mendes literally had me on the edge of my seat. Watching Blake and Schofield traverse the incredibly beautiful but also incredibly dangerous landscapes together, through enemy territory, was truly gripping.
I had seen a clip of the iconic scene where Schofield sprints through the bombs before but it was great to see it within the context of the film. Watching him desperately clambering to his feet and continuing to storm towards the Colonel after getting knocked over by the surge of soldiers, knowing what the stakes were, made it so much more impactful.
The cinematography in this film was also stunning. As I mentioned previously, 1917 features some gorgeous, natural landscapes. I especially loved the ending shot where Schofield is resting against the tree (because yum nature and also because it mirrors the beginning of the film). There were also plenty of burning building shots which I always love (ever since I watched "Skyfall", I've been obsessed). Oh and the scene where Schofield is floating down the river with all the floating cherry blossoms was another favourite of mine. It felt very calm and refreshing after all the fast-paced action before it (and pretty flowers yay).
