For someone who has essentially taken all of 2022 off from writing, the urge to do nanowrimo sure is there, huh

Dear everyone who is currently working on a Thing, whatever that Thing may be,
Good luck with the Thing. You can do the Thing. You will do the Thing. You just have to do the Thing.
Best wishes,
Someone who is also doing a Thing

I just had a deliciously angsty idea for the ending of my wip and I want to tell everyone about it but. I haven't even written the novel yet. So no one cares about the characters.

{NANOWRIMO 2021 PROJECT[S] ANNOUNCEMENT}
A Lord and a Lionheart: an immortal disaster of a crimelord and his right hand vampire fall in love between brutal supernatural violence, and their improvised roommates situation. For more info, the wip intro is linked in my masterlist.
Route 1: A Mistress and a Witch: a male witch has to become the bodyguard of an immortal, supernatural and criminal kingmaker to regain his freedom after breaking rules in a territory to which he didn't belong. For more info, the wip intro is linked in my masterlist.
Route 2: A Mistress and a Seamstress: a seamstress finds herself in the supernatural and criminal underworld after she starts working for a famed fashion designer who is favored by the kingmaker pulling all the strings in what happens behind the scenes. For more info, the wip intro is linked in my masterlist.
A Divine Knight for a Demon: a man who presumed himself to be human must engage in a journey with the immortal woman known as a "divine knight" in order to achieve demonhood. For more info, the wip intro is linked in my masterlist.
What is going on? I am suffering with some writer's block, and as I intend to regain my writing habits, I will spend whatever writing time I get during nanowrimo working on these wips that center around an alternate universe where things play very differently from my canon for my characters.
Why more than one wip? So if I hit a wall in any wip, I have alternatives to keep myself writing.
This AU revolves around three immortal entities in the supernatural world who have returned as a family, the Whitakers. The "lord" refers to Lottie (Lancelot), the youngest son; "mistress" is Nimue, the eldest daughter; and "divine knight" is Sarah, their mother.
I intended to hopefully achieve 20k words total.

THIS HALLOWED EARTH; Character Intros
(excerpts liable to change as this is a first draft)

JOSEPHINE SPINNER; The Miracle Mystery
EXCERPT: "Our Josephine," they would say as she flew past, as if they knew her. As if she were made for them. "Look at her, our Josephine."
PLAYLIST: Maybe Sprout Wings by The Mountain Goats / Jezebel by Iron & Wine / In A Week by Hozier & Karen Cowley / Fade Into You by Mazzy Star

NATHAN DARE; The Golden Boy
EXCERPT: Eddie had never seen twins who looked more alike. It didn't matter that Isaac's hair brushed past his shoulders when he let it down, or that Nathan filled out his clothes with an athletes body; they had the same face, the same hands, the same smell. It was when they smiled that Eddie knew they weren't the same boy reflected. Isaac smiled like he knew it would piss someone off. Nathan smiled like he desperately hoped it wouldn't.
PLAYLIST: Caleb Trask by The Crane Wives / A King of Hunger by Penny and Sparrow / Call Them Brothers by Regina Spektor & Only Son / Rue by Girl In Red

ISAAC DARE; The Reflection Gift
EXCERPT: Isaac was used to the way they would stare. Waiting for something he didn't know how to give. Josephine had been their miracle, the people of St Clair. Isaac was Nathan's miracle, a little bit his Mother's, never his Father's. There was no denying that he belonged to St Clair, but he had never belonged to its people. And they waited for what that would mean.
PLAYLIST: The Horror and the Wild by The Amazing Devil / In Dreams by Ben Howard / Body by Mother Mother / Asystole by Hayley Williams

OEDIPA YANG; The Outsider
EXCERPT: Oedipa Yang had never been in love, but she had been in hate. In hate with the town that had swallowed her mother when she was nine. In hate with her dad, who decided without her consent to pass her off to her aunt in said hateful town. And in hate with Josephine Spinner, the girl who wouldn't shut up even though she was dead.
PLAYLIST: Woman King by Iron & Wine / 10 Feet Tall by Cavetown / Coming of Age by Maddie Medley / Fly by bloodwitch

ROWAN WHITLOCK; The Valedictorian
EXCERPT: Rowan was looking at the stars and Isaac was looking at Rowan. He had never seen him so peaceful before. Rowan was purpose made flesh, intent in every line, motion to the marrow of his bones. He had never slowed down for anyone in his life but there he was, leaned up against the hood of his car with Isaac, perfectly still beneath the pinprick sky.
PLAYLIST: Give Me One Reason by Tracy Chapman / Me And My Friends Are Lonely by Matt Maeson / Deviltown by Cavetown / Required by Heavy Chest

FLETCHER RAMIREZ; The Liar
EXCERPT: "I used to howl at the moon," she said, hitching the shovel determinedly onto her shoulder. "I used to climb to the tallest branches of the tallest trees. I used to come home with leaves in my hair and St Clair under my fingernails. I'm not the girl who smiles and stands to the side and I am sick of pretending that I am."
PLAYLIST: Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) by Florence + The Machine / Bite The Hand by Boygenius / Burned Out by Dodie / Wild Parts by Maddie Medley
TAGLIST; (ask to be +/-)

WIP INTRO - HE CALLED ME FINCH
genre | canadian historical fiction, lgbtq+ historical fiction, new adult/adult romance, tragedy
status | drafting (2021 nanowrimo project #1)
I was Finley Ivanov to Andrew Fletcher for one day and four hours.
After that I was just Finch. Always Finch.
synopsis |
To Finch as a boy, the future is simple. The future is enormous and full of possibility as long as he's facing it with his best friend by his side.
To the young man he becomes, the future is transient and shifting.
To the man going to war, the future isn't a guarantee.
Finch's reflections on his life in 1930s Canada begin as war is nothing but a shadow on the horizon, and his story navigates through adolescence toward the adventure of flight school, leading up to the May 1943 Operation Chastise (or the Dambusters Raid) overseas.
He Called Me Finch is a posterior narrative spanning more than a decade as together Andrew and Finch grow up from boys into men, go to war, and deal with the fundamental ways they have changed each other forever.
characters |
Narrator — Finley "Finch" Ivanov: quiet, introspective, analytical.
Andrew Fletcher: best friend to finch, natural leader, attracts trouble, fearless, charismatic.
Petra Ivanov: sister to finch and friend to andrew, inquisitive and indignant, fiesty.
quote:
There are a hundred ways to talk about Andrew. I don’t really know how to talk about him, though. I never had to explain Andrew to anyone, or tell anyone what happened, because I didn’t have any stories about him that I wasn’t in, and everyone who knew us knew that truth plain and simple. We told the stories as they sprawled out in front of us, tripping over the edges as we tried to figure out how they would end.
It never felt like the story would end, though. We were always just catching up. Running around the next corner to see where it would go next. With Andrew, it never seemed like the story could go anywhere I didn’t like.
I thought so all the way until I was watching the tail end of a smoke trail blocking out the stars.
Aesthetics | a canola field unfurling as far as you can see, the relief of a familiar smile, warm wheat scented breeze, fury burning in your veins, the growl a motor louder than you can think, kisses in the dark, wind rattling windowpanes, the sharp sting of gasoline, snow drifting aimlessly to catch in your hair and eyelashes, the warmth of being known
Themes | childhood best friends to lovers, oblivious requited pining, coming of age, processing grief, growing up together
PLAYLIST | PINTEREST

What people think writers’ search histories look like: how to get away with murder, best way to dispose of a body, how long do humans take to decompose, how much blood do you have to lose to die, can i strangle someone with dental floss… etc
What an actual writer’s seach history looks like:
