just read this interview with Nive Nielsen where she says that she’s “pretty sure what was meant is “tuurngaq” [not Tuunbaq] and I say it like that in the TV show” and I want to talk about this for a second. because in the interrogation scene in ep5, the way Crozier and Blanky pronounce the name of the creature is so clearly different to how Silna pronounces it and she even corrects them after they say it wrong. but neither of them listen to her and continue to pronounce it as “Tuunbaq”. it’s the continuation of the colonial tradition of gradually destroying Indigenous languages but it’s done in such a subtle and seemingly harmless way that most people wouldn’t really bat an eyelid at it. I mean, what harm can two people pronouncing one word wrong do? but that is exactly how the eradication of indigenous languages began. with ignorant Europeans finding a similar pronunciation that is easier for them to say

in honor of @terrorscript reaching The Silver Swan: here is a large reason that scene had me leaping out of my chair on my first watch -- i learned a different arrangement of it (the orlando gibbons one!!) in early high school and we sung it ALL THE TIME and i hadn't thought of it in YEARS. so!!! i dug out my atrocious old USB mic and forgot to warm up and sang u some late renaissance/early baroque Swan Music. <3 hope u enjoy

Resources for Writing Sensitive Topics
As always, when writing about sensitive topics/injuries/illnesses, we encourage everyone to research and tag works appropriately. This is to ensure that the whump community can remain a safe space for everyone, as well as assist writers in creating well-informed works that avoid offending people and stereotyping, romanticising, or sensationalising hard topics.
Below are some links to resources we and others found useful - we'd like to thank the wonderful members of our community for helping us with finding great resources.

people on twitter freaking the hell out because rebecca sugar drew a comic of pearl and greg having a messy situationship in the aftermath of rose dying wasn't on my 2024 bingo card if I'm being honest
even Less so because the thing they're apparently mad about is that the nonbinary alien rock was supposed to be a lesbian (as if there's anything wrong with a nonbinary alien rock being bisexual, Or that lesbian can't have a situationship with a man without still being a lesbian on the other side.)
anyways, may take on it is: you don't have to consider any of rebecca sugar's sketches "canon," because it's not actually in the source material. rebecca may have a strong influence on how the fandom sees the characters but it does Not actually change the show. so getting worked up about it in the first place is ridiculous.
That Said, it kinda works with whatever they had going on in the show if I'm being honest
