Until the final season's arrival Johnny and Carmen having new baby together was my least favourite plotline. And there are several reasons for that.
First of all I really don't get what Carmen sees in Johnny as a prospective husband and father to her child. They seem to have nothing in common except Miguel. And as the series progressed it became clear that she solely exists to support her boys. And she has nothing to do besides giving Johnny a second chance with a new born child.
Which leads me to the second reason I don't like that plotline. And it's where it leaves Robby. It seemed that in the beginning of season 5 Johnny would finally start repairing his relationship with his son. But instead their relationship just suddenly became better after one beach talk. And they didn't get any meaningful interactions until Robby's loss in the Sekai Taikai. And even that brief talk was just Robby cheering himself up. Which wasn't as satisfying for me as the writers probably intented. People in the show often talk about about this new baby as if Robby doesn't even exist. One instance was the conversation in the hospital that Carmen had with Johnny and Miguel where everyone seemingly forgot that Robby was also Laura's brother.
But the main reason is that I don't like how it effects Johnny's relationship with Miguel. Their relationship is the most important in the whole show. It always gets the spotlight and the writers genuinely care about it. So it feels weird to complain as a Miguel's fan. But still I feel the baby plot somewhat cheapens his relationship with Johnny. I'll try to explain.
The bond between Mr. Miyagi and Daniel is one of the most unique in any popular media I have seen. They are friends, they are the mentor and the pupil. Despite being so different in many aspects including age, upbringing and life experiences, they love and respect each other. Their unlikely friendship is so heartwarming and special. You don't see a relationship like that very often. And I feel Johnny and Miguel have something very close to this type of bond too. They are truly the heart of the whole series. But the new baby plotline strips some of that complexity away. I know that familial bonds are incredibly important too and could be very complicated. But to reduce that kind of relationship to father-son one isn't an upgrade in my opinion. Cobra Kai writers love simple categories "friends vs. enemies", "fathers/father figures and sons", "us vs. foreigners" but it just feels like a missed opportunity to portray something rare and truly special. Now Johnny and Miguel are actual family. Even the found family trope no longer applies to them. So them being there for each other loses some of its significance at least in my eyes. They are now forced to spend time together not because it's their choice but because of the external circumstances such being part of one family.

There are already much better worded posts expressing the frustration with Tory and Robby ending up as influencers in Cobra Kai finale. But I'll still try to summarise why this ending seems so dissatisfying for me. Firstly ever since Zara was introduced as a character we as audience were supposed to hate her because she is two-faced and artificial. Two traits that to some extent simply come with her job as an influencer. She is required to be marketable and well liked. And since the show brushes off what she did to Robby. Those are the only reasons for us to root against her. Tory defeats Zara in the end. And her big reward is that she now takes Zara鈥檚 position as a karate darling. Which means Tory is now required to do the same things Zara was hated for previously. And as for Robby I really don鈥檛 like that he as a Miyagi-do student got a job like this in the end. It reminds me of how back in season 3 the writers tried to spin Daniel being a car dealer as a natural extension of Mr.Miyagi鈥檚 philosophy. This is just laughable. What does selling luxury cars to rich people have to do with Miyagi-do? And as influencer Robby is probably going to promote some karate but he is there to move karate related products in the first place. Not to mention how Robby has got this job through Tory. Yet again ending up in second place an addition but now to his girlfriend. And finally Tory and Robby are both characters that struggled with believing that they deserve to be loved and accepted by people simply for who they are. And now their whole job is to project a certain image, to pretend. All I wanted for both of them is to be open with each other, to feel loved by each other without worrying if there are any ulterior motives between them. But now their financial security depends on being perceived as this perfect karate couple. Their relationship is now a financial investment.

match cut johnny's opening "great more immigrants" with his season 6 line that starts "showing these international's [...]" match cut with the magazine cover during the final montage "american dojo defangs dragons" which while is a callback to the original karate kid 'mysterious dojo defangs cobra' it's almost the exact opposite -- instead of the outsiders and immigrants and transplants beating back the wave of american nationalism, it's american nationalism beating back the wave of outsides and immigrants.
that's the real issue i have with the 'redemption' of the cobra kai philosophy is that within the universe it's understood as a critique for the us military and the actions and philosophy of the us military. and i think the redemption of the us military and its philosophy IS the point of cobra kai, actually. we see it in how kreese's backstory is given (the portrayal as the his time as a pow and his foreign educated commander as opposed to a culture problem in the vietnamese war, the portrayal as the us soldiers as the VICTIMS in that conflict, the list goes on!) and in moments like these.
#with the introduction of the sekai taikai it only became more obvious#that the message of the cobra kai show is in complete opposition with the message from the original movies#it is seriously disturbing#truly the us vs. them show#cobra kai#cobra kai spoilers#ck negativity

Cobra Kai adopting The Karate Kid's own widespread misconception of You're The Best (Around) by Joe Esposito being a training montage song, instead of a tournament montage song, is so funny
