Monday night Lauryn Hill kicked off the Life Is Good/Black Rage tour by debuting her new track 'Black Rage' in Dallas. Before Ms. Hill performed the new track she stated:

 "I use the performance platform as an opportunity to express the energy of that moment, and the intention behind it," said Ms. Hill. "I've been a long standing rebel against the stale, over commemoration. As artists we have opportunity to help the public evolve, raise consciousness and awareness, teach, heal, enlighten and inspire in ways the democratic process may not be able to touch. So we keep it moving."

During L.Boogie's set she belted out classic records from her days with The Fugees, and her critically acclaimed solo album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill." Check out Ms. Hill's spoken word version of Black Rage below.

"it’s always hell when you get any form of writer’s block - whether short term or stretched out over an extreme length.

I got mine right before I had to drop a ‘tape.

Fuckville - population? me.

What’s funny is…the ‘tape was inspired by “Cruel Summer”, one of our nation’s greatest travesties since 9/11. 

It sparked an utter disgust for modern day music, and made me gag at the thought of what up-and-comers might see as “lyrical prowess”.

with that in mind, I did what any sensible, hard working mc would do - 

I wrote songs about it. 

The first two flowed with too much ease. 

I started to throw in some challenges…main one being procrastination.

TeeZilla 2012

L.A.I.D is a R&B/Rap group from the city of Dallas, Texas. The group was assembled in 2009 in the city of Arlington,Texas. The group member are Lil’ P (Phillip Ajayi),  B.Lew (Bryan Lewis), Lil’ Dez (Desmod Bonds), L Breezy (Langston Williams) and Razz D (Rahzil Blackwell). These five gentlemen all came together to form the group known as L.A.I.D. 

L.A.I.D Ladies Are In Desire LP

First things first, I’m truly amazed with the LP that L.A.I.D put together. Any true fan of R&B can appreciate what the group did artistically for their latest LP Ladies Are In Desire. While listening to the mixtape I couldn’t help but compare L.A.I.D to other 90’s groups like Jodeci, H-Town, Dru Hill and even Blackstreet. This group managed to put their own spin on their sound by merging R&B and Rap like Drake and it works well for them! Im very impressed on how organic the LP sounds it doesnt seem forced.

L.A.I.D started the LP off with an intro titled Wake UP, Im actually not a fan of intros, but I like what the group did by taking the morning prayer and adding a female whispering wake up. Lady of My Dream is a babymaker! The track reminds me of a slowed down version of Pony by Ginuwine. My favorite part of the song is when Kree Oliver came in singing “Dream about you when I sleep” her voice works so well on this song. With this track I feel it could revive the whole J.Smoov slow grinding and locking era…who knows? L.A.I.D decided to take things back with their track titled Spaces by singing over Dallas native, Erykah Badu’s, beat On and On. It’s probably one of my least favorite songs on the LP but I can appreciate them paying homage to Erykah Badu. Heart Rate is another sexy track the group created. It sounds like a song Dru Hill would’ve recorded, it’s very intimate and the ladies will really enjoy this joint and sing along to it. Missing You is a dope track, the Al Green sample was really unexpected. I like the direction the group went with the Love and Happiness sample. Ride Until I Die is probably my one of my favorite tracks from the LP. I feel like with a nice budget the group could put together a dope music video for this track with some real nice visuals. 

All in all Ladies Are In Desire was a very cohesive LP, the tracks flowed together very nicely. Im not a fan of artists putting more than 8-10 tracks on a LP because it’s hard to keep the listener’s attention, but with this LP I was actually able to sit down and listen to all 15 tracks with ease. I like how L.A.I.D approached each track differently, none of the tracks sounded the same. Each song got better and better, the LP started off great and ended with some amazing tacks like I Got A Lady and The Anthem. Each member held their own, no member out shined the next it was very balanced. I see big things happening for L.A.I.D if they continue to work hard, perfect their craft and stay humble. I would suggest their LP to anybody who misses that old 90s R&B vibe. It’s definitely one of the best R&B mixtape I’ve heard come out the city of Dallas. Support L.A.I.D they’re On The Verge!
