THERE IS AN UNDERCURRENT OF UNEASE that seems awfully out of place on such a beautiful morning - discontent, a lack of stability that has him drumming his fingers pinky to pointer across the arm of his chair, once, to ground himself in the vibration. Suddenly, it is not just Freyja’s well-being he questions. His lips quirk thoughtfully. ❝ Why would her father’s return precipitate her removal from the program? Surely he must understand there is no institution better suited for her. ❞

He could feel the nudge. The feather light brush over intimate memories.  Flicker of the Dauntless’s creaking deck, the sea breeze, gun powder and cannon fire. A beautiful woman’s smile and doe eyes.    But he allows it. No harm done for now.

A slight frown upon his lips, as the other made it apparent that he too did not agree with the manner in which the vampire lived. Those brilliant green lowered, about to utter that he was sorry for wasting the man’s time and leave– but he went on instead, and restored hope in those vivid emerald eyes.

The question would have stung, once upon a time. Now , he merely smirked at it.  "No more than any of your students are endangered by one another, or any of their teachers. “ He tried to reassure, then came up with a troubling thought.

"At least.. not by me.  I lament that -  the same cannot  be said for the man gunning for my head. ” He straightens up.  " I’d like to believe at my age I have a firm control over the hunger. “  He left out that if he were to starve for several days, he could not swear he could keep that control either.

Charles has never encountered one of his kind ( that was once the case for mutants as well, to note yet another similarity between their species ), but there are stories from which he can draw loose suppositions which assist the Professor in attaining some understanding where his mind and their conversation have not yet trodden. Dracula, Interview with a Vampire, Salem’s Lost, Twilight, whatever the book or the age, he has never known a vampire to be totally innocuous, much like mutants - much like himself and his students - and much like men. ❝ We are all dangerous? ❞  His lips slant. ❝ A fine point indeed. ❞ His eyes affix to the other’s with open intrigue, curiosity blooming like a flower. Who was she? What is the population of his community of dark dwellers? NOT TRUE AT ALL, really, but it felt good to say: and that’s not entirely true, either. When once his lips flowed with words of progress and companionship and plans for the ( their ) future, his mouth is dry and so is his wellspring of conversation. He could talk about the pain, sure. He could talk about heartbreak, grief, and denial. But what is the point? Doing so won’t bring back anything he’s lost. “It... was... an... - accident.” Anger should not change the truth. “A reckless and instinctive reaction.” He tucks his elbow closer, resting on the desk. “You saved yourself. I blame you for many things, Erik, but not that.”

I am alive but only just. Replies will be slow! Stagnant even. The desire to write is present and persistent, but these are the last three weeks of my trimester (university not pregnancy). As a side note, look at this icon. Lmao look at it. I was generously gifted a beautiful batch from my good friend @fasciinating​ and I knew they were going to be quality but just look at it. Absolutely stunning.

Hello!

Very busy weekend for me! I had my sister’s bachelorette party to attend, which was great fun but also extremely exhausting; I am beginning the week with a rather low social battery. I hope to post some threads to my queue in the next several days. ❤️ I’ve enjoyed dipping my toes into writing on tumblr again and appreciate you all for your talent and patience.
